A group of animal/monster robots is much cooler than a big person robot
I was super excited when the first commercials for the original Power Rangers aired and I thought I was getting a show about robot dinosaurs beating up giant Godzilla monsters.
Then I got treated to the zords almost never being used separately and instead combining into a robot human and doing the same thing to defeat the monsters without a knock-down, drag-out kaiju fight.

i've been listening to the Adventure Zone whilst knitting, got to the Flophouse switch episode and bounced hard out when they started rolling to sleep with the barmaids. i've witnessed and done that kind of stuff in games, and laughed my ass off
when Merle brought those vines to orgasm / bragged about his ability to bag an onion,
but between their voices annoying me (Elliott, really) and the blase tone of that bit, it just came off super-skeezy. i had tried to listen to a normal episode of the Flophouse some weeks before (the most recent at the time, i think) and felt no hook to override their voices, but i thought D&D might redeem them for me.
Not a fan of players thinking it's cool to RP fucking NPCs.
The only time I ever encountered sexual conquest in a tabletop game was when my 1930s actor/stuntman seduced some ladies that were in a sex cult, led them upstairs and then told them to get started without him while he investigated the rest of the mansion.
They were too whacked-out on elder god magicks to remember whether he was there the next morning and corroborated his cover story mostly so they could claim to have scored with a movie star.
like, it wasn't even RPd, it was just rolling to see if they could do it. i guess it was just too calculating, and ... objectifying, especially since all of them did it. whereas the times i've been okay with it, it was roleplayed out, and previously established as part of the characters in some fashion.
and re: voices, i enjoy McElroy bros. material! they are not necessarily the most mellifluous on first encounter!

I do wish they did more with the individual zords (something that the comics have actually been doing well with), but, man, smaller robots that combine into bigger robots is one of my absolute favorite things.

I'll kill my joke here and mention that Japanese pronunciations of foreign words go to the native foreign pronunciation. So, for example, they pronounce "Munich" similarly to how Germans say it, rather than how English speakers say it.
That said, Descartes is pronounced the same way in English as in French.

I kind of agree with both of ya.
Combiners are rad, but Voltron and most Megazords look bad to me cause they end up being a bad mishmash of colors.
Not that they can't still be neat, they're just fighting an up hill battle.
I'm fine with combiners in anything but Transformers
