I know we only care about the polls that say the thing we want to hear, but polls showed that Sanders would annihilate Trump in the general. Of course those all come with caveats, but just like you think that, I think the opposite. Sanders would call out Trump's bullshit even more than Hillary can. In no small part because "angry old man" is perfectly acceptable and he wouldn't be having to censor himself because of sexist bullshit.

This logic only works in a majority vote process; we function on a plurality method, so checking the "Other" or "N/A" box may as well be a null vote.

I am not of the opinion they are alike in any way...I am however of the opinion that two pre-selected candidates, who were chosen for you to pick from hardly constitutes a legitimate choice. I do not feel at any point in the primary process there was even a sliver of a chance that we didn't end up precisely where we are right now and that is completely by design. Maybe I am just disillusioned to the point of apathy with our political parties at this point.

Trump's own former campaign manager has gone on record saying that Trump didn't expect to get as far as he has. Candidacy was meant to boost his business image, nothing more; plan was to make top 3, then pitch his support to whoever the party rallied behind.
I personally think his campaign is part image and part tax scheme, since he can effectively loan his own money to his campaign which can't officially close until all debts are paid, so he's basically off the hook for a huge tax burden on his corporate assets for the rest of his living days.

Breaking the two-party system is not a matter of voting. Not with the media, political system, and major donors all pushing for a two-party narrative. There's such a gulf of power between these groups and the average voter is so huge that the very suggestion is ridiculous.
It also ignores the efforts of activists pushing for basic human consideration.
