Hmmm a little bit of a blurb on NPR just now that Donald trump is still complaining about his mic

It was just part of the every half hour news headlines thing but I hope that nonsense doesn't somehow get legs

I think Sanders would be getting annihilated right now if he'd won the nomination.

I know we only care about the polls that say the thing we want to hear, but polls showed that Sanders would annihilate Trump in the general. Of course those all come with caveats, but just like you think that, I think the opposite. Sanders would call out Trump's bullshit even more than Hillary can. In no small part because "angry old man" is perfectly acceptable and he wouldn't be having to censor himself because of sexist bullshit.

At one point polls showed Trump getting absolutely annihilated by Clinton, too. Polls change and polls from before the primaries even ended are missing a ton of contextual data that has happened since that point.

Like honestly while I don't think Gary Johnson is a very respectable candidate either... I sure as hell ain't going to judge folks like I would with Trump. I got a lot more hope for folks who do protest votes than people who grumble and still vote for Trump.

There is at least the value of lodging a protest against the two party system and the slim if any hope that said third party garners enough votes to be take seriously in future elections thereby opening the door to the end of this charade that we even get a choice.

I meant more along the lines of every republican that bails to vote for Johnson is a vote Trump loses.

This logic only works in a majority vote process; we function on a plurality method, so checking the "Other" or "N/A" box may as well be a null vote.

The rhetoric that both sides are alike has never been as manifestly false as it is in this election

I am not of the opinion they are alike in any way...I am however of the opinion that two pre-selected candidates, who were chosen for you to pick from hardly constitutes a legitimate choice. I do not feel at any point in the primary process there was even a sliver of a chance that we didn't end up precisely where we are right now and that is completely by design. Maybe I am just disillusioned to the point of apathy with our political parties at this point.

I don't think for a second anyone in the GOP thought or planned that trump would get as far as he has

Trump's own former campaign manager has gone on record saying that Trump didn't expect to get as far as he has. Candidacy was meant to boost his business image, nothing more; plan was to make top 3, then pitch his support to whoever the party rallied behind.

I personally think his campaign is part image and part tax scheme, since he can effectively loan his own money to his campaign which can't officially close until all debts are paid, so he's basically off the hook for a huge tax burden on his corporate assets for the rest of his living days.

you don't fix the two party system on election day. You fix it in the four years of runnup to the next goddamn election. Not directed at you, but goddamn I wish people cared more about this on off years. No one gives a shit about the "other" parties locally, or even nationally. No one wants to put the work in to fix the system. They just want to complain about.

Wait, didn't Clinton march in the gay pride parade when she was a first lady? Barney Frank did a Hillary commercial about it:

My view of Hillary is not that she "changes her mind" on policy, but rather that she continually works to get the policy she wants to go forward, but she listens to the people around her to find out what is possible first. Then she enacts what is possible, while still working for the more perfect thing. I respect that, in fact it seems to be the only real way to get anything done in Washington. Bernie is a treasure, but I don't think he could have gotten anything done.

Making perfect the enemy of good is something progressives have... perfected.

It's not enough that Gay marriage was passed. We need the unicorn of every candidate we vote for to have publicly been for the issue their whole life. Nevermind that things change, regret sets in, or doing what is feasible right now is preferred to losing the game completely.

Homegrown Extremists Tied to Deadlier Toll Than Jihadists in U.S. Since 9/11

Since Sept. 11, 2001, nearly twice as many people have been killed by white supremacists, antigovernment fanatics and other non-Muslim extremists than by radical Muslims: 48 have been killed by extremists who are not Muslim, including the recent mass killing in Charleston, S.C., compared with 26 by self-proclaimed jihadists, according to a count by New America, a Washington research center.

He still thinks fat, ugly or blustery women deserve his name calling

He still thinks he was in the clear to discriminate against black tenants who wanted to rent his properties (hey, he didn't admit guilt!)

He still thinks Japan is a major economic rival to the US

He still thinks his 4 casino bankruptcies were a sign of excellent businessmanning

He only denies he ever said a thing the moment it becomes inconvenient, like his support for Iraq, but on all the stuff where he could have 'evolved' his position, he hasn't

Breaking the two-party system is not a matter of voting. Not with the media, political system, and major donors all pushing for a two-party narrative. There's such a gulf of power between these groups and the average voter is so huge that the very suggestion is ridiculous.

It also ignores the efforts of activists pushing for basic human consideration.
