I think I've forgotten most of the really terrible stuff from back in the day. It's congealed in my brain into a mass of horrible. Like the black hole in The Fifth Element, except receeding into the mists of the past.
There are a few truly reprehensible things that I remember from over the years, but for the most part whenever someone mentions a poster and is like "that guy gave me nightmares" they mean nothing to me. A postscript in literally thousands of pages of content.

Ha, I can't believe anyone who has spent any amount of time on the internet could possibly believe that's true
i mean reddit and 4chan alone...
Pretty sure that rule predated Reddit (or, if not, than Reddit's explosion into what it's become today), and as far as I recall 4chan used to be much more about quietly sharing appalling pornography than trumpeting appalling political views.
Also, we used to be a pretty appalling board here, pre Glorious Edict.
Just saying, that myth was a lot easier to believe back in the day.
I always heard it was one of the only rules set down for the forum management by M&J
which given PA is a business and this is their official forum the reasons for banning racial slurs seem pretty self explanatory?
I meant more, can we have a technical discussion about TASing, given it would include explicit discussion of the finer points of running games on something other than their original hardware.
In the X Universe, which ship(s) do you prefer to fly yourself?
Which race, if any, do you prefer to befriend or screw over?
Rhetorical edit: Why am I getting myself all excited about old X games when I know they will not support my shiny new VR investment?
I'm a big ship kind of guy. My favourite was the M7 in Reunion when it could fit PSGs. They nerfed it pretty hard in later games. I also like the Odysseus a lot, the Paranids had fun ships
I tend to befriend everyone because I want to have access to all the ships
Because you are a mad man. Space sims have moved on significantly and Egosoft are dead in the water. There's a lot of fun stuff in those games that isn't really recreated in say, Elite, but they've been outclassed in most ways.
No, I don't think they're actually legal in QC. I'm not going to get one either way, because they're kind of troublesome pets who mostly only want to be awake at night. It seems like the type of creature that would prefer to be left to roam around outdoors rather than be someone's plaything.

Nothing about the technical aspects. I don't know, I can talk to Krahulik about maybe relaxing elements of the emulation rule. I think it means something different now.
What are your thoughts on some degree of modding by posters?
I mean, obviously there's a whole realm of places posters shouldn't be taking it, but what do you think of like a poster in a thread going "Guys, stay on topic please" or "Stop that shit" when a bunch of posters are going a bit off the rails?
Is it ok as long as it's just very brief? Should people just say nothing and use the report button?
I feel like it's something many people like to do as a sort of "Don't bring the Eye of the Mod down upon us, for they will not be pleased" but I know it can be just as disruptive if a bunch of people start doing it.
I was wondering if you thought it was actually useful in any way or not.
It had a shorter run (as an variation on a theme), but "Salmon'd for lies" holds a special place in my heart.
Which I guess comes around to a question; Tube, are there any forum quirks or community aspects that you appreciate in particular? Need not necessarily be something big or official, just the little things that seem to evolve over time.
Also Person of Interest is awesome and yes it's basically 'what if Batman were two dudes' plus a bunch of other tech stuff going on that I don't want to spoil.

I'm only on season 4 now, but Person of Interest is really good and the characters map really well to the old continuity Gotham City crew in the comics. You can find an analog for basically everyone in the cast, including the dog.

Tube, does it bother you when people post things in these Ask Tube threads that are not just their questions and your responses, or do you feel like every forum can use or squander their 100 pages as they will?
Follow-up question: can you describe the monster at the end of this thread?
When I saw this thread I went back and started reading through the predecessors. I've seen mentions of people being banned or jailed on "points." I looked at my personal information and I do have a "points" number listed but I don't know what it means or what it means to be banned on points. Maybe I missed it in the rules thread, but what does this mean?

The points listed on your profile are not the points that get you banned.

when you get jailed or warned you get "you're a dipshit" points. These last for a given amount of time. if they get over a certain point you get jailed, beyond that you will get temp banned.
when you get a warning or whatever, it at least used to, come along with a description of how many points it had attached. that might have been nixed because, certain people would game the system and be x% a dick where that was jail, or ban, -1 if they got punished for it.
edit: no it still says how many points you get when you receive a warning. doesn't seem to display the total on mobile, or i can't find it.
Aside from having the mark of shame of being 'jailed' on your avatar, is there any other restrictions to being jailed? Like restrictions to posting amounts?

You get a post timer that means you can only post once every 30 seconds or a minute. Also don't think you can create threads if you're jailed.
Would it be possible to append a page navigation bar to the top of the mobile site?
I mostly browse the forum on mobile, and sometimes finding a specific page can be a real hassle.
Edit: Or even better would be a navigation bar that shows up with the back to subforum, main forum, and search buttons.
Just an aside that I didn't realize for my first year of the mobile site - clicking the Penny Arcade logo that appears when you scroll up takes you back to the root forum page. This, combined with the left arrow to go to the parent sub-forum, means I can pretty quickly navigate around the forums on mobile.

Goddammit are you kidding me.
How did you not accidently hit that at some point?
My meathooks hit it half the time when I don't mean to.

I hate to say it, but it's a rather standard design pattern that clicking a site logo does that.

I didn't get the reference, since he was around before I spent time in D&D, and he spent time in threads I didn't.
So, I looked up his post history.
You know the saying "Ignorance is bliss"? It makes so much more sense now.

Sometimes I really miss liming posts.

Could the forums tolerate a tool assisted speedrunning thread?
The GDQ thread in G&T tends to be used as a general speedrunning thread as is

Conversely, do your admin powers ever give you cause to suspect that a poster is someone famous? I don't know how much you would be able to see.
I don't wanna clutter the thread too badly about a TV show can I shoot you a PM Tube?
This.
Oh man the liming still looks good on mobile. On the desktop version, not so much.
