I TORE (my contacts open so I could get a few good people to vouch for me on the references)

like, I know this is routine for basically everyone ever, but this was my first real job app of what is likely to be many. I don't even necessarily know if I'll hear back from them, but I feel good knowing that I did it, and that (almost) every one after this will be easier
The problem with always working contract to contract is I'm constantly spending my time calculating when my savings will equate to a subsistence yearly income for my remaining lifespan.
And the problem with being under 40 in the 21st century is the answer to that is "maybe never".
Well I know what electrophysiology is and I have done it but I would not count that as real experience
Again the curse of being vaguely qualified strikes again
Ugh, just finishing up my first twelve hour night shift. It's been pretty brutal for someone used to working 8 hour evening shifts. But I get the next three days off, then I work 12 hour day shifts for the next five weeks, then switch back to 12 hour night shifts, etc.
I miss evening shift already, but the 12 hour rotating shifts are here to stay unfortunately.
So, I believe I've mentioned my new work place is a trauma center. Today I saw a motorcycle accident, neck vs barbed wire. It wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, but that doesn't sound like a good time at all.

I like how they picked the time frame for rotation where all their employees will be performing as if they were drunk from sleep disruption like 50% of the time.
I think it's three weeks that is the worst rotation schedule but am unsure. Still sorta hate the whole concept.

Saw a couple big groups of people heading to the metro on the drive in this morning, like way more than you'd get just from people being grouped up at a stop light waiting to cross
Then I saw another big group as I was walking to my building after getting dropped off, and lots of them were wearing a yellow scarf
Turns out the anti abortion march is happening in DC today

Yeah I have a friend that works as an escort for Planned Parenthood who makes a point of staying updated on these things so she knows what risks people might be facing that day.
She did have a moment of happiness last week where the Church group that had been shouting at her all day locked themselves out of their own bus when it started to rain.

I work for a small marine part manufacturer. Benefits in general are... Difficult. The margins per part are high, but the sales are slow and hard to increase.
My greatest accomplishment for last year was managing to find the money the then start a Simple IRA for everyone. We can only do a 3% match, but at least all my guys (and myself and the owner) now have some kind of retirement going.
Last year while attending, I received word that I was going to Japan for two months. It was a great time!
This year, about 10 minutes ago in fact, I have officially accepted a new job with a new company offering a 20% salary increase and the possibility of more Japan trips.

I liked how our management said people seemed to like the decision to go on rotating shifts, when 100% of the people I've talked to hate everything about it. I mean, twelve hour shifts are bad enough, and I don't want days or nights either (that's why I've been on evening shift for the past ten years without changing), but all of that would be tolerable if it were fixed shifts.
I haven't resigned yet, but my current company is unknowingly giving me one last "fuck you": I'm being sent back to Florida after I return from PAX.
Won't be missing them at all!
I've heard the best way to survive being hunted is to not act like prey and instead act like a predator (which we are). Predators don't really like to kill other predators because it's risky as fuck and not usually worth the gains unless you're desperate and/or hungry. So like, be loud and puff yourself out and throw shit at them.
Not sure how true that is.

A few of the people I work with do that only they were pooling their money for a room this week since it's getting around freezing
Really smooth more manager telling them off for being homeless and unable to afford an APT

So tired all the time.
I found €1.20 in my change jar this evening. I'll happily donate it to whomever takes this job.
