and now the second page in a thread that could not possibly be as horrible as its predecessor.
this cuts to the bone. slice like a ninja cut like a razor blade.
my one and only thread
But you succeeded in making the thread not only one of the most horrible things ever devised, but also managed to not get our TF2 thread privledges taken away at the exact same time. That is a mighty feat, friend. They shall sing your song from the mountaintops for ages to come.
I was in a L4d game with God_of_Hellfire a few months ago, when Hellfire dropped out... for two weeks, (I find out later that evening from Kaffa) cause his power supply blew up, in the very literal sense, smoke and fire. Sooo.... it could happen, albeit on a smaller scale, being a router with a smaller power brick. Still could smoke and burn.
And frankly, tying achievements to unlocks is dumb and completely ruins the dynamic of the game for days after the update. I mean, it's been over a week now and PA servers still have half scoot teams.
No, it doesn't and no they don't
Last three or four times I've played have had even teams in terms of classes. It's the unlocker the ruins the dynamic, because you got people with all 3 in hour 1, and people just grinding to try and get these unlocks so they can catch up
But hey, completely ignore my post and keep making the same points, that's cool, not like I expected any decent debate from the Penny Arcade forums
But you ignore the fact that there are two ways to fix this, and that for whatever reason the method Valve has chosen doesn't seem terribly popular.
Also Goose I'm still curious what your take is on farming, and if you've ever done it.
EDIT: And I get the feeling the enforcement on the unlocker is somewhat erratic because it's not terribly easy to enforce. It's probably pretty difficult to tell the difference between somebody using the per-achievement unlocker and somebody just getting them legit, unless they do shit like just unlock the milestones. Even then, you don't know that that person didn't farm the achievement, then re-lock the achievements so they could get them again for fun...and punishing people for locking achievements will go over real well.
I have said it before and I will say it again: Its still not a preferable method, but its definitely better than the unlocker, there's no comparison. You're playing a game on a custom map, its just the goal is to get the achievements not win the map. I've only ever used it twice. Once to get the Ubersaw and once to get the KGB. I've never said I was perfect, and I can see why people don't like farming either, and I still wouldn't call it 100% legit, but its definitely not as bad as unlocking via external software.
Someone asked me that last thread, so I figured I'd post it here too.

Also Costanza, as you don't play the game anymore, and every post you've made since complaining and stating you won't be playing anymore has been about how horrible the last thread was, can you stay on topic or post someplace else? I would like the thread to remain open.
Also, change the thread title to Mario Kart is still the best map.

I havent played this in so long, but it was awsome. I cant imagine what a new version of this would be like.
I have to say, I'm fairly partial to Hydro, myself.
I love Hydro, and I still get some good games on it every now and then, but damn after the third stalemate in a row that map can just fuck right off.
Kinda like 2fort.
Dustbowl really is the one map I can just always play. That doesn't mean I want to, or I'd choose to, but I'm never going to be annoyed that Dustbowl's up. Ever. It's like the McChicken sandwich of maps. It's always going to be good enough, and sometimes it's fantastic.
Dustbowl is defiantly the best of the original maps. Overall Badwater is my favorite.

You know, I think that in any case it doesn't really matter. The achievements are not hard to unlock, so casual players are only at a disadvantage for a little while. The whole class-dynamic changing every time an update is released, and again when things die down, is actually a good thing. It means we get a bit of variety without any permanent ill-effects (unless you count the unlockables as ill-effects). While I do think using the unlocker or farming every last achievement on day 1 is unsporting, people can do what they want since two weeks after the update there'll be no difference.
I can certainly understand the opinion that everybody should have to get achievements through normal play, but that's rather tyrannical and unrealistic.
