I'll never understand why these grown men fight so hard to be the guy that gets to hold everybody else's poo. If I'm a tyrant, being speaker is about pushing bills I want pushed, not desperately pushing things I don't want to keep a job that doesn't serve me. It makes no sense.
Johnson just couldn’t bear to watch his compatriots literally crying over his caucus’s inability to choose a leader and stepped up to take one for the team
Or something
You don’t become a politician without lots of self-delusion
He believes he's chosen by God to make this country a Christian theocracy. Which is a longer way to say self-delusion.
Just in case anybody was wondering, this wasn't hyperbole. He literally believes this exact thing.
And that God talks back to him. Which is very different from praying.
The extent to which "so God phoned me up one day and personally told me to..." just goes
completely unchallenged nearly every time it comes up is one of the more WTF things about American politics.
(And increasingly on this side of the border too, given at least one of our provincial governments is testing the dominionist waters...)
Yeah, if people are hearing literal voices in their head, that might not be God.
If he's claiming to be a literal prophet, it should definitely be queried. I'd be interested to know what He sounds like. Gender might not be a consideration for a diety, but God is
definitely male to these people.
Also, I'd want to know the exact wording of what was said. He should write it down. Surely the voice of God is stamped indelibly in his memory. Damn sure not something I'd forget, and you wouldn't want to misremember.
To be clear, I'm not mocking people of faith. I know people of faith that are good people, doing good work. But these fuckers, like Trump, cloaking themselves in religion to gain power, yeah, those aren't the same kind of people.
Am sick of these fuckers corrupting what on the face of it (in particular, New Testament) appears to be a pretty decent book for the most part.
