I'll spare you the iconic photos or coverage of the tragedy, but I figured a thread should be made. I sort of came to this conclusion tonight after realizing that 9/11 and the election of a black president are the two events in my life thus far that have that sort of "Where when and what you were doing at the time" effect to such a significant degree.
and my photography class said we didn't need to show up if we didn't want to for like a week
I had fucking football practice afterward, even.
I didn't get home until 5:30 to finally watch some coverage of what had happened. They had TV's on sporadically in my school, but most of them were half static as there was no cable and no antennas.
I was in some sort of computer class, I can't remember the specifics of the class, but we were the first to know in our school because 90 percent of all class time was wasted on the internet.
Also because I live outside D.C. the pentagon attack was more prominent at the moment, as we could see the smoke from school. Also I knew people who worked there.
I honestly can not imagine what it would be like to be too young to really 'get' what was going on that day.
Seeing that thing about teaching 9/11 to kids that was posted in the other thread has made me realize I'm going to want to slap the shit out of a whole lot of youngsters in the near future.
I was brushing my teeth when my dad yelled for my mom. I figured he must have been misinformed.
Our TV reception at school was shit. I can't even remember what we did that day, but I do remember making fun of the kids from the high school down the block because they got let out early.
Speaking of electing Obama, man I had this site bookmarked which had a compilation of videos shot inside bars, arenas, and all sorts of venues...about 30 seconds each...all of the moment Obama was announced as the official winner. It was astounding how loud people got. It was like the Beatles on Sullivan.
You can poke fun...but I don't even tend to shed tears at funerals, and this moment definitely brought a tear to my eye. People everywhere here were just going nuts outside.

I saw buildings burning and planes crashing
But it didn't really process how many people worked there, how terrified they must be, why and how the planes crashed, how the families must feel, or its significance.

11th grade, pre-calculus. Announced over the intercom.
The teacher tried to keep teaching. I don't think anyone paid attention. In the rest of my classes (we had block schedules, so we had 3 long class periods) we just watched TV.
Edit: I'm not gonna lie, some of you all are making me feel old. I'm only 24, dangit!
nobody had any fucking idea what was going on and we had announcements at the school about possible bombs at such as the white house and capitol building
probably the most surreal day I'll ever experience

i was like That's not good!
then i went to see if pokemon was on and it was not, then i switched the channel back to show my mom
I was ten days shy of my 21st birthday. I had been spending the weekend across the water at my parents, and woke up to find ma glued to the TV, live video of the burning towers running all over every channel. She explained what had happened, and I said, verbatim, "You have got to be shitting me." She didn't even bat an eye.
Funny, she was watching TV on a whim that morning. If it hadn't have been for that, I likely wouldn't have known until I had returned to Seattle a couple of days later.

I did not have time for such things.
Besides you are three hours behind me it's not like you were watching it live.
we had cross country practice that day, and people were all "man, are we even having school tomorrow? what the hell"
and our coach was all "fuck that. you keep on doing what you were going to do anyways because the fuckers that did this want you to freak out over this crap, that's why it's called terrorism" and then he was like "go run some miles or something"

Whatever my dad's show was at the time was on hiatus and he was sleeping in
I was ready for school and turned on the tv, saw it happening
I didn't really get it
My mom walked by and her eyes got big and she gasped
And she ran in to tell my dad
And I went to school, and no one really talked about it
my school didn't even let out
and my photography class said we didn't need to show up if we didn't want to for like a week
she nevers watches TV, especially in the living room, unless it's something bad
I don't think I was old enough to really understand
I was in high school when this happened
you freaking kids

Quite frankly, I hope so. The only things I can imagine that are worse would be, suffice it to say, very bad. For everyone.

He came back and said, "They didn't have any weed so I had to buy a rock of crack."
Then we were like aw for fuck sake.
Then he was smoking crack all night. He woke me up at 5 am and said, "A plane just hit the world trade center."
Fucker always came back with crack.
I made a TD for iphone and windows phone!
