So in the past two months, I've gone hog wild and bought every core book for nWoD, along with a number of supplements for Werewolf and Hunter.
My next big gaming project after my Buffy WW2 Cinematic Unisystem game is going to be a Hunter game.
But I want to have some experience with the rules before I run it for my group.
If I were to run a short game (play by post) for Hunter, would anyone be interested? I'd probably use one of the SAS adventures to make it easier for me.
I would probably start the game in about 2 weeks time. In addition, I'd probably only be able to update 3-4 nights a week, so all involved would have to be okay with a relatively slow moving game.
Some things I'd like you all to keep in mind:
1. It's my first experience at all with WoD, new or otherwise. I've never even gotten a chance to be a player in a game. It's fairly likely that I might ask for rules clarifications, although the system itself seems relatively simple. You guys are more or less my guinea pigs.
2. Like I said above, I only anticipate being able to update 3-4 nights a week. I'm currently working a night job 3 nights a week and am also substitute teaching, which means that I might get a magical phone call any morning at 5:30AM asking me to come in. If you want to play, you need to be willing to go with a slower paced game.
3. I've started and stopped a number of games on these boards. Some of them stopped because life got crazy. At the same time, some of them stopped because I just wasn't intrigued by what the players were giving back to me. I'll do my damnedest to keep you engaged, but you also have to keep me interested. If you're giving me two or three sentence updates, I'm going to get bored fast. If you want to play, be willing to bring something substantial to the table.
4. I like you guys to drive the story somewhat without me holding your hands, which would be helpful if I can only update on limited nights of the week. I really like inter-party interaction and roleplaying and will highly encourage it.
Character Creation Guidelines
1. I'm looking for four players. I'll run the game if I only get three. I'll consider taking on a fifth.
2. I'm going to choose players based on how much their character interests me. You don't necessarily have to create a character sheet until you're chosen, but it wouldn't hut.
3. After I've chosen characters, I'll give you guys time to brainstorm how your characters got together and how the inter-party dynamics work among you.
4. We'll be operating at first tier, which means you're a small cell of hunters. The cell will consist solely of the players in the game, although you might have someone who feeds you information or who you can go to when you're facing something way out of your league.
5. Standard character creation rules.
6. Use
this site to generate a character sheet.
7. We'll use the city of Philadelphia as a sort of homebase for your characters.
8. I'm using the TV show Supernatural as an inspiration of sorts for the feel of the game. If you're familiar with the show, you know the tone I'm going for. If you're not familiar with the show, you should really watch it. It's badass.
Deadline for character submissions:

A past Hunter attempt as left me hungry.
If that fails, I don't mind helping out with the mechanics and such.
You don't really have to have watched the show to be in the game. The general tone is that there's a group of everyday people who break their asses to stave back the forces of darkness. These people face death on an almost daily basis with little thanks or recognition.
It's basically the same as presented in H:tV, just in TV form.
Also, please note that I've added a deadline for submissions to the OP.
Welcome to the club! If you can get your hands on WoD core and Hunter, you'd be welcome to learn along with me.
Looks a lot like the set-up for Exalted. I'll look into it with more detail in the morning.
Shut your dirty mouth, jdark, and make a badass Hunter for me.
First-tier, eh? I think I'll go for a bookish kind of character. Thinks he knows about the supernatural, doesn't actually know jack.
Edit: Actually, that's crap and useless. I think I'll go for a parapsychologist.
I will submit something anyway though. Expect him to have a dark past.
EDIT: Also- to get weapons and equipment, do I need to take Resources as a Merit?
Unless the ST says otherwise, yeah.
Storyteller (spacepope)
edit: So I'm thinking of a Criminal falsely branded a Slasher by Ashwood Abbey.. I have to read up a bit more to see if thats plausible.

1. Let's try to avoid any of the Tier 2 or Tier 3 groups. I think they're really cool, but I really dig the idea of a grassroots, down and dirty group of people who decided to hunt monsters without knowing much else of what's out there. Places like the Abbey and Network Zero and all the crazy global conspiracies are cool, but you guys are operating way below their radar.
2. Overall, I'd like your characters to be in this to help people. Sure, you can have your demons. But when it gets right down to it, you should be doing this to make the world a better place, even if it means your life sucks.
I'd probably also be okay with an overwhelming desire for revenge. I think there's less potential with that, though. The whole "MY PARENTS ARE DEAD" thing has been pretty stale.
Also, bonus points if you guys eventually end up rolling around in a pimptastic classic car.
Alternatively:
Like, is that the acceptable level of revenge?
EDIT:What books do you have? My FLGS is having a sale for the "core" nWoD books, and they have everything but Innocents.
edit:
Do you want us to have some commonality? E.g. Grew up together or something? It seems thematically pretty hard for people not knowing each other to come together without the larger cliques.
I was mostly trying to dissuade people from having revenge as their sole character trait. It gets old fast. There's got to be something besides just revenge that drives you.
As for other books, I also have Armory, which I think is a good book. I'm okay for equipment out of there as long as it's not too wacky (ie. no rocket launchers). I'd also try to turn people away from having martial arts be a defining trait about your character. The idea of some kung fu student trying to fistfight a werewolf is... distasteful.
I also have Second Sight. I think it's an awesome book and well worth having. I don't think it would see a lot of use in this adventure, but maybe if it develops into a campaign.
I've heard good things about Armory Reloaded, but I'm not sure how much use it would see. It's main chapters (Storied Weapons, Fighting Styles, Future Weapons, Combat Hacks) don't really fit. You're not bad enough dudes to have storied weapons yet, martial arts may or may not be important to your character, future weapons nope, and I want to try core WoD combat a little before I start changing things.
I think a lot of the other core books are either setting books or antagonist books. Again, though, I'm a bit of a noob to this whole thing and am open to ideas.

I have thoroughly examined the body that was brought to me, the one the Board said required my expertise. The haemophage (I refuse to use the term vampire) is an amazing specimen. Almost every organ has atrophied into nothing, and yet analysis of musculature shows that he was in the peak of physical fitness! And if I was to mention my findings on the bodily fluids, I'd be here all night!
The big-shots at all the major universities laughed at me. Well, let's see them laugh at this. And yet, this isn't enough. I need to find more of these...phenomena. I will seek out someone to bring me specimens. Can't let anyone else hear this, they'd question the legality of my actions. I'll have to turn off the rec-"
"Well, I guess that's it, Jerry," Ben says, wringing his winter cap in his hands in the smoky police station office.
"I don't know what to tell you Ben," Jerry replies, looking up from the pile of evidence and letting out a rush of air. "You think these are the guys who killed Malinda?"
The agitated Ben suddenly jumps from his chair, raising his voice, "Who else Jerry? These," he pauses, "these sons of - gah!" He breaks off, frustrated. "They could ruin me. Not only is my affair with Malinda now a front page story thanks to this murder case but the hospital is trying to save face by squashing my promotion. I just put the down payment on a new summer house! Sherry took the kids to her mother's. I - I just don't know what to do."
Jerry pats him on the back, saying consolingly, "It'll be alright Ben. I'll dig around. But just one thing - what exactly did these guys want from you?"
Ben turns to face his old friend, his face stoic in reply, "Bodies, Jer. They wanted bodies."

Davian Roberts : Sheet
Age: 23
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 140
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Virtue: Fortitude
Vice: Pride
Davian Roberts is a young journalist from Rochester NY. He first took up the vigil after following a werewolf and confronting it with police officers in a junkyard outside of Potsdam NY, where the wolf had been terrorizing the rural farms in the area. He was the only to survive the encounter. His confidence and sure attitude make him seem naive and inexperienced to the other hunters of his cell. (That's a very quick rundown, I have to leave soon but I'll submit a full sheet later.)
Double Edit: I can try & scribble up some fluff for him too.
The Potsdam thing is actually a slasher 1-2 shot game that My buddy ST, fun stuff.
I'll be choosing my favorite 4-5 submissions this coming Monday or Tuesday night, so people should feel free to submit characters.
Also, it'd be sweet to have some more information about your characters, along the lines of what Jacques did/is doing.
I went out and bought Midnight Roads. It is the best thing ever. Ever.
I'll heartily agree. I don't know why I forgot to mention that book. I have it, so stuff in there is most likely fair game too.

He first became aware that there was... something out there during his last case- a series of killings involving what police perceived to be a vampire wanna-be. What Noah discovered that the killer was no imitator, but the real deal. He has finally gotten used to the fact that there are things that go bump in the night.
