So I got back into this game a couple weeks ago, currently have a lvl 68 HW user on harvestgain. I was wondering if any of you guys could give suggestions/guidance on a "good" HW template to work towards. Currently I'm Spec HW/Melee+MagicD/Shield, Trained Lockpick/Item/ManaC/Healing. I don't really mind relying on buffbots for a long time as I don't play that much or do extremely long dungeons. I also still don't know if 2H/DW are "worth it"? Like, do I -really- need a shield?
Eventually you will want to specialize Arcane Lore. (For wearing Majors, Epics and Legendaries) I have reached a point with my HW guy where a lot of the mobs I fight ignore shields so I take the same amount of damage per hit whether I have a shield up or not. So I am thinking about un specializing his shield skill to specialize dual wield.
And as a suggestion, if you don't have your skill point from hunting Ralirea yet start spending a couple of buff cycles a week looking for that Tumerok.
Man, 2 months ago I barely had 20 million XP to my name. Now, I have 11 billion XP I literally cannot spend and am cherry picking augments worth 4 billion like it's nothing. Life is weird.
2:06:08 Erik Festus gives you Enduring Enchantment.
2:06:11 Congratulations! You have succeeded in acquiring the Enduring Enchantment augmentation.
2:06:11 Daija has acquired the Enduring Enchantment augmentation!
So no death items and I don't have to rebuff on death. Aka, "the ones you need if you're doing endgame group content."
Haha! I was just chatting with Kaestra last night. Seemed pretty cool.
Yeah, every single time I've returned, all the way back from 2005 and earlier, Kaestra has ended up welcoming me back and talking with me. Sometimes I didn't even find out until later when I discovered some random character is one of her alts. There's a reason her guild has 30,000 characters in it.
Thanks for the tips, Seg. I was thinking of going spec AL because I've more recently been finding a lot of high AL req majors and what not. Also, I recently got picked up by Karesta too, by just randomly chatting with her in Holtburg by the buff bots lol.

Spec AL for sure, but know that some items at the upper end will have AL requirements that are simply out of reach without the use of rare gems. Fortunately, spells don't stop working if your AL happens to fall below the requirement, so long as the item doesn't run out of mana and you don't take it off. In fact, trained AL with a gem is probably enough to use 98% of things.
I find myself switching out parts so that I can buff with 8s since I haven't started putting augments to raise my focus yet. And I haven't seen an arcane lore rare since I returned months ago, not even on the few trade bots in the MP.
Speaking of the MP, who ever created that plug in that lets people run a portal bot that will auto log to separate characters for the different portals should be thanked on a daily basis. Some times there are two of them up in the MP and I do not mind the spam at all when someone uses !whereto in General.
I did not know that existed, but I suppose I should have guessed it since I have spend I don't know how many MMDs at the component exchanger in Cragstone.
Already contemplating my first alt, since I can already tell void isn't my style. I'll probably get into the 200's simply to have a dude who can do heavy lifting for me.
As I look over the weapons, and how they were divided during the "Master of Arms" thing, I'm finding myself very irritated.
I want to be a spear guy, but they are scattered across all the spec's.
I think LW is the best option if I really want to focus on spears, the loot variant is pretty strong in LW.
Yes, two hand hits twice per swing, when using my explorer axe I hit two mobs swinging one way and then hit two mobs on the back swing. Not having a shield kind of gives you that as a benefit. Eventually I will have to start finding different damage types but right now the Axe I am using is good enough for clearing Tuskers, Eaters and Olthoi while I am working my way down to collect Tusks, Jaws and Pincers.
That's a very difficult question to answer. But I'll give it a shot.
WS is predictable. From the moment I set foot in that world I know where I'll end up and what item's I'm looking for. There is very little in the way of personal expression, outside of vanity. Sure, I could be a snowflake and come up with a fancy action set, but the odds of that actually happening are slim to none. The pool isn't quite deep enough to allow for that. My armor/equipment is mapped out for me because X is better than Y. And I don't get much satisfaction over having "the coolest house" when that's the only thing I could stamp my name onto as a personal thing.
AC, while as old as the earth itself, has very little of that. Sure, some quests have predictable and sought after rewards, but the end game is literally an action rpg. Kill monsters/Complete quests, open corpses/chests, look at loot. My gear can and will be wildly different than the guy next to me. My character can be any combination of dozens of skills, and I can (even to this day) create a new template which could become a standard of play.
It's the difference between a sandbox, and a theme park.
I just don't like the theme park. I thought I was going to, but it was an effort to log in.
Brought in 15 epics and a dozen dual majors. Also, first stack of MMD's complete!
It's starting to come together!

I've been neglecting this lately due to insane family drama, but I'm hoping to pop back in soon.
I've always been on Morningthaw but I find it difficult to find people to do things, especially in the limited amounts of playtime I have. I see some of you are on HG - what's it like there?
It's good. Lots of people on and chatting in general. Knights Reborn is a good allegiance. There's always at least a small fellow going on in the best leveling spots. A few public quests a day, and people always seem willing to join a quest when it's advertised.
The portal bot network is also very good. If you don't have time to run somewhere, it's almost a guarantee that at least one bot has a portal.

So the prospects for getting a new character going there wouldn't be too bad then.
That's a very difficult question to answer. But I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, I regret preordering WS as well. Its not that it is a bad game it just isn't the game design I prefer for MMOs. Even as far as theme parks go I think Guild Wars 2 did it better as it was a little less obnoxious about it in the quest structure. I just wish someone would make a sandbox MMO with as much love and polish as Carbine had for WildStar. It just isn't the right game for me.
Woot, got the extra pack slot. Next week: No more Creature or Life Foci.
My alts are both at or around the level Daija was when I returned in March, meaning I can now redo my glorious grindfest as either a Void Mage or an Archer. Woot!

From starting alts on MT recently, I think new characters are in pretty good shape these days.
I'll be interested to see how it is starting from zero and playing AC with the survivalist mentality I had back when I started. Too easy on MT to load my alts up with stuff.

Harvestgain you say? I just resubbed, for the last time. Final billing date is 6/30 right? Looking forward to being able to pick up and play this any time I want.
Yeah, if you sub now, you pay $13 for the last time.
If you wait until August, you only have to pay $10.

I spent a little time online last night with my new guy. I made him a ranged character, with fletching/alchemy as support.
It took me a little bit to re-learn to play. I don't mean the basic mechanics of the game or where things are at - I mean playing as a lowbie relying just on my own equipment and skills. No buff bot.
That sudden realization that, "hey, these drudges can hurt me!"
That's a very difficult question to answer. But I'll give it a shot.

This pretty much sums up my opinion of every MMO that has released in the last few years. Theme park has become the norm, and while I enjoyed it for quite awhile on WoW, other MMOs keep coming out and try to out-WoW WoW and it's just not possible. Even Blizzard can't do it, which is why they scrubbed Titan and are instead releasing graphics updates in upcoming WoW expansions.
If Asheron's Call was re-released with fresh new graphics and animations, along with the most popular mods (like Decal) built into it, I'm confident the systems could stand up to other modern MMOs. I know I'd be in day 1.

AC really did bring to the table something that modern MMO's lack.
The closest I've come to the feeling of playing AC in recent years has been GW2 - and while there are obvious differences, they are the only two MMO's I've ever been able to play long-term.
AC I played from 1999-2004, then again briefly in 2007-2008. And now I'm back again.
GW2, I've been playing since launch (almost 2 years)
GW1 off and on for a few years, but not consistent like the two above.
WoW only kept me for about 4 months.
No other title has even gotten that far. Motor City Online, I played for a couple years but I didn't really consider that a "true" MMO. More like an online racing game w/ lobby and stat tracking.

Finally got off my ass and updated the OP a bit. If there's anything you think I should add, let me know.

The Jitte is the one you can't ivory.
It was a great triumph when I found him/her (tumerok gender always eludes me, mostly because I don't care).

Next... More pack space, definitely.

I've got plugins which auto fuel items, so odds of them running dry are low.
This depends highly on how easily I can get spectral rares.

2MMD and the crystal, he'll hand back another random one.
It can get expensive, but ~600k isn't exactly hard to make.

Plus LW has the atlan, assault, and ghost spear.
Is that just poor information?

Now I'm in EO squishing bugs. It isn't easy, and I did die last night... but I can do it!
They've made great strides in making the game accessible. It's very easy to get going.

Basically just make AC with a slightly deeper combat system and updated graphics. Keep everything the same.
Even the world is more rich and beautiful than most MMO's released in the last decade.
Shoot me a message if you want, I don't have anything for a low level character, but I can offer some advice and answer some questions maybe possibly.
I will be working on getting lowbie stuff soon, though.
