Surprise it's the [Final Fantasy Thread] FF12 Retrospective
The hate stems from the fact that there is already a theme song for FFXIII in the Japanese version, and it was written for the game, which this one is not. Aside from that, the other music in the game will take melodies from the theme song in order to make the soundtrack more cohesive, like they've done in the past, except now the theme song won't ever be there, it'll be this stupid advertisement for this bitch's CD.
Aside from that I personally have a huge problem with pop "artists" nowadays whose liner notes include literal armies of writers for their songs, but that's just a personal thing.
I think most people don't have a problem with her singing the main theme song. I mean if they had translated the theme like usual and she sang it I'd have no problem with that at all. She's got a pretty decent voice.

So basically it's like Final Fantasy just opened itself up for the entire Dub vs Sub arguement, is that what you're saying?

Um...it's been that way since FFX.
Hell, I remember reading way back when that Tidus's VA (or something like that) said that there was practically no room to have a Japanese voice track on the DVD.

You do realize that most (if not all?) of the singers of the Final Fantasy songs are pop artists, right?

I do, and you do realize what I said in the last paragraph. I'd have no problem if Lewis was just singing the song that was written by the FFXIII sountrack guys, just like I have no problem that the japanese pop stars are singing the song written by the FFXIII soundtrack guys.

That song really doesn't seem to fit FFXIII somehow.
It might sound alright in game, but I think a song that's written and crafted for the game by the very same people that did the game's soundtrack, and that has its melodies spinkled in other songs for cohesiveness will very much be the better option every time. And that song exists, and instead of using that they decided to probably take some money in order to advertise this girl's song that has nothing to do with FFXIII.

Wait, you think Square was actually payed to include that song? Really?
"Eyes On Me" didn't mesh with FFVIII. None of the songs from FFX-2, KH or KH2 meshed either.
Seriously, it's just a pleasant pop song that will overlay on some scene. It's fine.
You know, we mentioned Melodies of Life earlier as a pop song included in FFIX, and it was actually enmeshed in the plotline perfectly. It's also an awesome song, to boot.
The standard was set back then, I don't know why they had to include a song that doesn't actually mesh well with FF13. Even FFX-2's pop songs worked in the context of the game, particularly 1,000 Dreams which was a summation of the entire story.
If it meshed with the game that means the song was pure shit.

I'm still confused on why everybody thinks this song is going to completely replace the other theme. For all we know, this song only plays during the credits.

APZonerunner, who was briefed by Square-Enix themselves said in this thread that the original song is gone.
The press release seemed to kind of imply it too. It didn't say this is going to be just a song in the game. It's now THE theme to the game, the role that was taken up by the actual theme to the game, "Kimi Ga Iru Kara."
Just to be very clear: Square Enix reps told me the Leona Lewis song was "the theme" of the game and part of the translation. That, to me, is a pretty clear indication that the Japanese theme will go along with the Japanese dub for a matter of cohesion. That's what I'd do if I was on the localization team. They didn't explictly say they were removing the other song, but I will ask.
Also, I doubt Sony has paid Square for this. In fact, if anything, it's the other way around. It's a coy marketing move; don't be surprised to see THEME TUNE BY LEONA LEWIS on the back of the box/tv ads/whatever.

I would have dug "Forgive Me" as well.
whatever happens i'll be interested to see how the critics respond to it
i mean obviously they're going to gush out of habit but the devil's in the details

I like this theory
it's the subject matter. it really does not mesh with the game at all

And Eyes On Me was terrible.
I mean, if you wanted to say that you have a hard time believing that it will, I guess that would make more sense to me.
Or is the game out and I missed the boat?

And that was a hilarious video. Square's definitely taking notes from Disney.
Dramatic drum rolls and lens flare everywhere.
Marketing stink all over this, let me tell you what!
final fantasy doesn't sell that amazingly in the US, huh
you're getting awfully hung up on this whole thing!
No, I think her record label, Sony Music, paid Square to put it in the game.

Get a god damn clue. And it's actually a beautiful song, much like the game is a beautiful game.

Only Quina and Amarant remain.

I quite enjoyed both of these actually
