The best thing would be if you could play as Soundwave and it turns into an Pikmin/Overlord-esque style game except with robot birds, bats, dogs and little mini robots while you blow shit up with that cool looking gun he had.

Wow. Prime cleaves a bot in half with his energon axe in that trailer. Seeing his alt mode, it almost seems like a combination of War Within and Animated, as opposed to War Within and Movie continuity.

The teaser trailer looks suspiciously too good. Like I just decided to buy the game based on it. This amount of excitement over something that has been so hit and miss as the transformers is dangerous. Lots of room to be dissapointed later. Fingers crossed like whoa.

    Optimus Prime . . . chopping stuff up . . . with a laser axe.

That's pretty metal right there. Please let this be good. And I'm not talking just "adequate" like the PS2 Armada game, I mean "really good".

Can't wait to check out the trailer later.

Someone should make a G1 game with the Borderlands art filter on it. That would look great.

    Borderlands doesn't use a "filter"

I'm not a huge fan of Transformers but the PS2 game was awesome. Especially the level that took place inside Tidalwave and then he transforms and you fight him. If there isn't a Metroplex-Tidalwave fight I will be sad.

Yeah that's definitely Omega there and not Metroplex. Depending on how they do things the guy might not be around at that point, although Trypticon does tend to show up a lot lately...imagine a boss battle with him if they could do it justice. Mind you no ordinary bot should be able to beat him by themselves.

Hey what's up with Starscream not being listed yet one of the other seekers there instead? That seems odd unless ol Screamer is going to pull another back stab ploy that is his specialty.

The PS2 Transformers game was good, it had it's flaws (rag doll physics for robots?!) but they did have some very awesome fan service with the lines Megatron and Optimus says in the opening scene. The minicons while stupid in the show and all did prove to be a good updating system for a game which was surprising.

My only big fear for this game is how much shall be forced into DLC territory, especially for other bots? I could see them ass raping people over that and sorry but I'm one of those people that believes DLC to be for the most part BS so I don't touch the stuff. Too bad games in the future are going to be nickle and dime transactions. Pfft.

And thank god this isn't that Bay shit.

Did anyone ever play that G1 Transformers game for the PS2 that was only released in Japan?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CKxwNQ-jwM

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PO6Dc4eais

I heard it was hard and had really clunky controls, but the shear amount of playable characters would probably cause me to like it anyways.

Edit: I have no idea why the second video uses the American names for the characters when the game supposedly was only released in Japan. Also, apparently that guy hasn't even unlocked all the characters yet.

If you mean the PS2 TF game only released in Japan, yes, yes it was.

It was very bad, granted they had a lot of bots to pick from but most of it was played the same way, it was repetitive big time with little difference in the bots you destroyed. The stages were ugh and the controls sucked.

The AVGN did some reviews on past TF games

Go watch that for a laugh and know that his gimmick is he tears apart games even if he likes them, so don't take everything he says too serious okay.

Dude, those games deserved the verbal thrashing. Seriously, looking at that Famicom one dredged up all sorts of bad memories of horrible licensed crap from the old days. Hell, the only good Trans game was the Armada one, simply because it nailed the whole "Autobots, transform and kick ass" thing so well (though the Minicon hunting got kind of tedious). Since they're patterning this so close after Gears of War, I can only expect one thing from it: lots and lots of action. That's a good thing.

That's true enough, those games were bad, I'm just saying because a lot of people that watch his videos don't realize even when he's playing a good game he some times screws around to make it that much worse. They don't realize this is just his thing is all.

But yeah those games were horrible, I mean having to defeat the decepticon symbol or anything? Yeaaaaaaaaaah.

Tried to find the ending to that Japanese PS2 game the other day, but with no luck. Too bad, as it was sort of entertaining, bad voice acting aside.

Funny that both the US and Japan got their own exclusive TF games, with ours apparently being better-- even though it was based on Armada.

Speaking of bad Japan-only games, I'm sure we all know about Ultra Magnus in Transformers: The Mystery of Convoy for the Famicom, but what of its sequel, Transformers: The Headmasters?

Good news, depending on who you are: it's for the PC, Wii, and DS, too.

Other stuff from the press release:
"Transformers: War for Cybertron is an origins story, taking players on a gripping, adrenaline-fueled journey that precedes the TRANSFORMERS characters' arrival on Earth," said Rob Kostich, head of marketing, licensed products, Activision Publishing, Inc. "The game transports players to a living, metallic planet where they will battle as giant converting robots in single player, online co-op or head-to-head multiplayer matches that are fully immersive from start to finish."

"For the first time, Hasbro is working with Activision to drive the TRANSFORMERS fiction forward into new story arcs, demonstrating pivotal moments in Transformers history that defined who they are," said Aaron Archer, Senior Design Director, Hasbro. "This remarkable video game helps us to tell a critical event in TRANSFORMERS lore that will be used as canon for future storylines in a way we could have only dreamed of a few years ago. It is a testament to the success of the TRANSFORMERS brand and a key element to the story we look forward to telling in 2010 and beyond."

Transformers: War for Cybertron features two distinct storylines: the AUTOBOT campaign tells a story of heroism to save their home planet against overwhelming odds, and the DECEPTICON campaign tells a story of an unquenchable thirst for power to control the universe. For the first time in a TRANSFORMERS title, fans will be able to play the game with their friends through team-based online co-op, or go head to head in a variety of intense, online multiplayer game modes. The game features a sci-fi art style that introduces fans to the entire living, metallic world of CYBERTRON, as well as all-new visualisations of the iconic TRANSFORMERS characters in their original Cybertronian forms.

so i just got my issue of game informer with the article on this game, and it sounds pretty cool. apparently there are two campaigns, told in order, starting as the decepticons story as megatron gains hold of cybertron with a new weapon, and then the autobots story as they fight back.
i was pleased to hear you can transform at will, and that the shooting is in an over-the-shoulder angle like RE4 or gears. the guns are also standard shooter fare, like shotguns, rifles and the like. also, flying characters will have stages designed for them, where they will require you to fly upward and along platforms to advance and fight off enemies, it's sounds pretty fun.
another cool thing is the 'perks' specific to each bot, apparently some will be able to drop turrets, heal team mates, or generate ammo along with other unknown perks. these will play into the multiplayer, which is supposed to be pretty fleshed out in this game (though not much is known yet)
also co-op is confirmed, at least 2 bots followed the player in the demo they played, usually the characters not chosen played by AI. hopefully they can get up to 4 players, which sounds completely amazing. i'm getting more excited for this the more i learn, so here's hoping it turns out good.
