HELL NO!

Are you working Christmas Day? I am. 12:30pm to 9:00pm. I don't know if we're still doing the Christmas Forum this year, but you can use this thread to mope in until then.

What work will you be doing? I'm pretty lucky, given that I have to work I won't be doing much (probably). I'm the maintenance man on duty for a five-star hotel on a day on a day when occupancy is at 25%. So I'll mainly just sit in the office on the internet, maybe watch a movie off our system (for free, unofficial perk of the job), occasionally go up to someone's room and tell them "No, your TV isn't broken, you just haven't switched it on. Merry Christmas." while making bitchin' public holiday rates.

However I will, for the most part, be alone, except for you guys. Anyone else in the boat with me?

Midnight until 7am on Christmas morning.

Hopefully there won't be any god damn domestic calls. Those are the fucking worst, and they happen more frequently around holidays. (I'm a security guard)

    I'll be working.

Working hard on my sleeping in, eating Christmas ham and drinking beer.

It will be a difficult task, but I'll manage to get through it.

Luckily I don't work real retail, just a grocery store. I have to work the day before and the day after, but I'm free on Christmas day and we close at 7 on Christmas Eve. Not too bad.

    I'm working.

Only I'm not getting paid. I will be assembling toys. Worse still, I will be putting teeny tiny decals on things. I remember my father jokingly complaining about decals on my micro machine playsets. Turns out he really wasn't joking, because really, fuck stickers that are less than an 1/8 of an inch square, and fuck my OCD for making sure every one is square and level. Dad never had that problem.

I was exaggerating about the suits and ties part. However, the standard office uniform of Dockers and Polo shirt is pretty much the suit and tie of the engineering world. My first job out of school was with a large, multi-national firm that's based out of the UK. They're of the 'old-school' mentatlity and I had to wear a suit and tie when I worked there. They also didn't believe in Casual Friday. :(

    Space shuttles.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa- no, seriously, I'm an environmental engineer, so my daily work involves making sure design models adhere to environmental coding and I also deal with refinery/upgrader shutdowns and maintenance programs to ensure they're up to date with all recent environmental regulations and code. I'm the middle-man between Big Oil and the Feds.

I work normal, full shifts both Christmas Eve and Christmas. It's a night shift job so either it'll be nice and quiet or it'll be to horrible for words. I'm not sure which once, 'cause I'm relatively new to this gig.

I got friends who are volunteering on Christmas day to get hobos food, warm clothes, an opportunity to have shelter for the winter, sing to/with them so Christmas song, etc.

They're not complaining. In fact they're really looking forward to it. Giving love is the best thing to do on Christmas.

Dispatcher/Jailer at the Sheriff's Office in a fairly small county. All prisoner care as well as dispatch and reception type duty like taking calls, keeping logs of prisoner activity and radio transmissions by our station, database queries, feeding prisoners, etc.

Usually midnight shift work though so it's mostly pretty quiet when I'm there. Pretty much just catch up on reading and DS games, unless TNT has a Law & Order mini-marathon going like they do every other night.

That or I run my old classmates' info to see if any of them have fucked up recently.
