I wasn't saying that knowing the ending to a story makes the telling of the story automatically bad.

I'm saying that knowing the ending of Battlestar Galactica makes any more telling of the story painful.

    Eh, true I suppose.

I am trying to think of something like Battlestar where they had a great big mysterious build up where the ending was actually good, and I'm having some trouble trying to think of one to be honest.

So I watched the Pilot tonight. I wasn't expecting much from it but seeing this really changed my expectations.

I think I may like this more than Battlestar Galactica.

IF the teenage drama doesn't get too out of hand. :P

I also enjoyed this way more than I was expecting.

Really liking how they set up the initial AI/humany cylons or how they came to be.

Umm, apart from the teenagers, there's some in the virtual clubs. Also, the head of the school is played by the "lady with the knockers" from Patriot Games. :P

She travels back in time to have sex with her dad to father herself in the last episode.

    This is what happens.

The lady and I are working our way through all of BSG. I fear that when we get to the last episode her head is going to explode in rage.

    Should be interesting.

I think I did this, followed by cursing the fact I wasted my time watching the last half of season 4.

Honestly if you just stop watching at the halfway point of season 4, you only miss one cool space battle and nothing else

We just got done watching the episode where they jump Galactica into orbit, launch all the fighters and have Galactica jump away again.

It is seriously one of the best fucking moments in TV.

    I agree.

(especially since you had to put up with such a crazy half-season before that.)

I shouldn't let the ending ruin the rest of the show for me but it totally does. I just wonder, did the writers know how it was going to end when they started writing the show?

no, and they said it all the time

their reasoning for every decision is "well it seemed like a cool idea"

that series was never not going to have an awful ending

Not forcing the show into some kind of alternate history could have resulted in an acceptable ending. Not good, but boringly acceptable. Instead we got Cro-Magnon crossbreeding.

Everything was done on a whim.

They picked up on the whole religious thing because of something Six said in like...episode 2 or 3 and just went "huh, that sounds cool".

    Well, some stuff worked out.

Like, Calli, or however it's spelled.... she didn't originally have a name because fuck, she wasn't supposed to last long. The guy that played Chief though liked her character and gave her that name by just referring to her as it over and over during episodes. Writers picked up on it and she got to stick around.
