    they do

That's funny, because I find a lot of very white people have a peculiar scent. Not necessarily unpleasant, but sort of like sun-bleached bread?

I'm half Indian, so I guess I only smell half as bad? Man, who knows.

I've also been to India, as holiday vacation spots go, it wasn't my favourite.

When you put things in the sun for a while, especially clothes, they definitely smell different.

i've hung clothes on a line and they can get a certain smell about them, is it similar to that?

Yup, I would think so. Of course, sun-bleached bread is more an imaginary smell, but it's the only way I can describe it.

one time we had dinner at some expensive 5 star hotel or something
    seemed pretty nice and all
on the menu it had some steak
and we thought it must be something else because they do not kill cows there
so we asked the waiter what it was
and there was no one else around, or any other tables were pretty far away
but still he leaned in real close
    and whispered
    "beef"

after dinner we hung around in this games room with an enormous pool table with cues 2 metres long and you pretty much had to climb up onto the table to reach the middle which made playing balls from there quite awkward
and when you walked into the toilet you first stepped into a carpeted room with couches and magazines with the actual toilets in an adjoining room with the urinals in view of the couches

also we went to this small pre-wedding reception at some sort of outdoor function place
the people getting married were from norway so the whole deal seemed to have some real coin behind it, such as when the groom rode down the street on an elephant with a goddamn parade or marching band or something blocking traffic for like 10 minutes

    basically shit was pretty tight
but there was a toilet attendant at this smaller reception who would stand by the sinks and turn the taps on and off and squeeze the soap dispenser for you and hand you towels
while staring at you the whole time
    it was pretty goddamn awkward

    Sholay

I haven't watched it yet, 'cause I'm afraid of dancing men..

This movie is India's Star Wars. Like, I am in awe of how big this is. Dialogues from this are so common place that you don't even notice them. I mean, this is Star Wars-Godfather-Casablanca-all-rolled-into-one levels of popularity. The movie itself is sort of, well, it's hard to judge, since it's 35 years old and not possible to watch in a vacuum. It's kitschy fun, I guess.
I watched an Indian movie called "Dhoom 2" the other day. Everything about it was terrible. But according to Wikipedia it was a big hit in India, so I have decided Indians have no taste. Except when it comes to food.

    Transformers 2.

But, yeah, that movie is horrible. Anybody who's seen a Hollywood action movie here agrees. So it's not like it's a much-adored classic. Another really bad Hollywood-style movie that came out that year was Krissh, India's first full-scale superhero movie. That movie is ... so bad it's surreal. Also, a tremendous hit.

And the guy that made Zinda is pretty despicable. His whole filmography is plagiarized. His biggest hit was a rip-off of Reservoir Dogs and his last flick was The Usual Suspects in Hindi.

India makes good movies every once in a while though. I saw something called Ishqiya the other day, pretty good.

on sunday i was invited to some fairly local indian event
just like a display of indian culture or something
i know someone in some indian dance group who performed there which is the only way we knew about it
because it was this pretty small and shitty and was basically a display of the worst of indian culture
the main event seemed to be a fashion show by some company that had saris and traditional indian clothes but in styles more suited to trendy nightclubs
with about 15 amateur models showing off their clothes for half an hour without changing once
just looking at the same things for an eternity

    chicks were pretty hot though

basically the whole day was spent standing back talking shit about everything and looking at girls but too scared to talk to any
some random dude handing out flyers ended up hanging out with us half the time because he was bored too
and then the day ended with an open air cinema showing some basic romance movie that was not very good

    great day
check your local papers for shitty cultural events to piss about at

one of the people in that movie, assuming its hrithik roshan or however its spelt, has a weird clawthumb where another thumb grew out the side of his normal thumb
    look it up

and hey has anyone heard of A R Rahman?
i havent but apparently hes a huge music producer in india and did the slumdog soundtrack as well as many other soundtracks and is said to be one of the highest selling artists of all time
anyway he did a free concert in sydney a few weeks ago and i went after sydpax and its was pretty massive
i heard about 75 thousand people went to see him
all i know is that i was watching on a screen because it was almost impossible to even see anything on the stage so far away and in between was a fucking shitload of people

music wasnt that great though it was just like having an indian movie on in the other room so all you hear is the music and it all sounds the same
