Video Game Sales Thread February: All done here, go to the next one
GI: You've made comments about the No More Heroes series continuing on a new platform. Do you expect to make a No More Heroes 3? And do you think No More Heroes 2 might eventually be rereleased on Xbox 360 like the original in Japan?
Suda51: If there is a chance to continue No More Heroes, I am interested in making NMH3. I personally think that NMH is a game for Wii, so I would be very happy if I could make a game for the Wii’s successor, whenever that might be. I was not involved in the production of the 360 version of NMH1, so I don’t know anything about that.
Odd thing about that statement: it seems to suggest that any development for NMH3 would take too long to appear this generation, or he believes or knows that there will be a Wii 'successor' sooner rather than later.

Maybe he just wants a break and figures the time in between systems would be the right ammount. :P
Stupid work filter won't let me read the article, but a search on Darksiders reveals two different ideas:
Analyst: Darksiders A Disappointment For THQ?
THQ is hoping to continue narrowing its losses and achieving profitability this year, but it seems Darksiders, its latest original IP, might have ultimately dinged that goal. Signal Hill analyst Todd Greenwald believes THQ "spent fairly heavily" on marketing for the title -- without much result, he adds. "Darksiders didn't perform up to THQ's expectations, likely selling less than 1 million ...Gamasutra - Feb 02 8:00 AM
and then:
UPDATE: Things That Are Awesome: Darksiders Sold Well Enough For Sequel
UPDATE: Sometimes news gets out into the world, and sometimes that news is just plain wrong. In this case, that’s a good thing. THQ released its official financial statements earlier today, and it looks like the company is doing well. Darksiders, specifically, sold more than 1.2 million copies worldwide in its first four weeks. Looks like Mr. Greenwald jumped the gun a little bit. Even more good ...Game Informer - Feb 03 11:53 AM
Darksiders seems to be pleasing it's masters.

Moreso than any game I can think of in recent months, it's really one that just deserves to do very well
Activision seems to be busy. On top of the rumored Radical layoffs there's a rumor Neversoft suffered layoffs today and more in April once GH6 is done.
The publisher will hand the groundbreaking franchise [Guitar Hero] over to Vicarious Visions.
This spells trouble for [Neversoft]. According to the same source, several members of the Guitar Hero team have been laid off (specifically several “note trackers”) and there are currently no official projects post-GH6.
UPDATE: Though there have been many layoffs at Neversoft, those who are currently working on the aforementioned Guitar Hero 6 are being kept until their jobs are complete at which time they’ll be let go. In layman’s terms — April. They’re being told today that they’ll be fired in April.
Well they can certainly lay off people at Neversoft. Back when Guitar Hero was huge, they hired an assload of people with no real industry experience just to do note charting for rhythm games (many individuals hired were ones that modded PS2s to produce custom song and notecharts for scorehero forums). Surely with the decline in the number of titles they're releasing, not to mention the decline in the music game business, they won't be needing so many pure note-charting people who do nothing else.
That and they need more staff to devote toward making TH games actually work with the board. Since apparently, it wasn't the board that was the bigger problem.

Wow...way to make them work harder on the product that will get them canned. O_o
Poor people, I hope they do ok. But that is the way it is right now, music games are no longer the genre to make. Yuck at VV, they are a horrible dev team that make some of the more craptastic spin offs.
The Wii is for games, sure; it's just not for games that lots of people who've played games for years would be particularly interested in.
On the other hand, I've bought dozens of 360 and PC games in the last few years, most of which were intensely good in some way or another and don't rely on a gimmicky controls whatsoever.
:?
Its comments like these that never fail to annoy me. I know you didn't have any sort of malicious intent, but this is your opinion and your perspective. I'd argue that, for me, the wii has offered more than enough to satiate my desires when it comes to gaming and I've been gaming for 10+ years (edit: now that I think about it, it's more around 20 years. goddamn 2010). If anything, I'd say that the wii appeals much more strongly to people who have been consistently gaming since the NES days than people whose first console was an xbox or ps2. Also, I've bought dozens of 360 and PC games in the last few years that were heralded as the next step in gaming evolution that did nothing but disappoint me for giving me more of the same (or worse).
But of course since I'm defending the wii, that automatically makes me a part of some special segment of the hardcore gamer community and obviously just a fanboy.

This is false (for me, anyways).
Been playing games pretty heavily since the age of 4, started on an NES

yeah, i definitely don't mean for everyone. but if a "hardcore" gamer happens to like the wii, I'd be willing to bet that they've probably been gaming for a very long time.

Honestly, if it weren't for the controller, I'm almost willing to bet that the Wii would be my favorite system this gen. There are some pretty good games I played there that I could tell were hindered by the controls, and a lot more interesting ones have come out since I got rid of the system.
But I pretty much knew I was doomed on the control front when I got my Wii at launch and absolutely couldn't stand playing Twilight Princess. I waited the month, though, and traded in the Wii version for the GC version and found it a highly enjoyable game, so I knew where my problem lied.
Goddammit I really wanna play Silent Hill though (and NBA Jam if it turns out not shitty)

You know, I was going to write a post similar to yours, but thought it wouldn't be productive. I've been gaming for over 20 years now (yeah, crap, that's a long time), and I have a fairly substantial backlog on the Wii. And the DS. And PC. I just find that games like A Boy and His Blob, NSMBWii, Shiren (which I still need to get), Endless Ocean 2, the Bit.Trip games, etc. to be much more enjoyable than a lot of the heralded fare on the other systems. Not saying those heralded games are bad, but that they just aren't for me. Gaming interests are quite diverse - just like movies / music / books - and there's room for all of us in it. Just hope the developers remember that.
Anyway, this attitude is just like the attitude that the 360 has nothing aside from FPSs, or that the PS3 has no good games or is too expensive - the perception has stuck there and it's just wrong.
Also, I'm pretty sure the Radical layoffs are confirmed.

Sure, the wii appeals to me, I just don't find myself playing very much on it. The PC will always be my main squeeze. 20+ years of gaming, first console an NES, last console Sega Genesis.

You're OK Griffin.
I was going to lime the whole thing, but decided to lime the part that is most important. Pretty much my feelings on the whole subject though. Everybody likes what they like, and thats the way it should be.
Good goddamn, Activision's on a tear. It sounds like they're cutting everyone loose that isn't working on one of their "exploit the shit out of this" IPs.
And it seems odd that they're transferring Guitar Hero duties to Vicarious Visions. Sure, Neversoft beefed up with folks who couldn't note chart their way out of a paper bag, but their latest GH work wasn't that bad. Meanwhile VV's work blew complete chunks. Maybe they work cheaper? Or maybe the theory's correct and they'll do ride to. Wiki says some entity called "Robomoto" did Ride, and so far that's their one and only game. Then again Activision hasn't announced who is doing Ride 2, have they?
Wordherder on
Why the crap did I ever make my original name "cloudeagle?"
Fine, I'll admit that besides preferring the punishing difficulty of GH III over RB, and also preferring GHWT over the original RB, that RB 2 pretty much blows the rest out.
I'll still never forgive Harmonix/MTV for the travesty that is RB1 on the Wii, nor the general shittyness of the original instruments.

25 year gamer here...but then it was the Wii that got me the buy a Nintendo console again...sine I never bought a N64 or GCN...so I'm loving the Wii. And admittedly, I never stopped loving Nintendo, I just got sidetracked with other systems after the SNES.
But then I love my DS and 360 too...I just love them all for different reason. :P

Yeah, and I definitely used open terms because I can't say for absolute 100% fact how many people play what. I do know for a fact that out of everybody I know, I don't know anyone who, if they have a 360/PS3 and a Wii, play the Wii remotely as much as the other systems. Folks can defend the system all they want (which I don't get why since the system itself is perfectly fine), but games for the Wii are typically not targeted towards the same as 360/PS3 games. Which is a lot of the reason why it sells so well. How that is offensive to people who greatly enjoy the Wii is beyond me.
360/PS3 games tend to target the 18-35 market. The Wii and it's games tend not to. So controversial! So insulting!

I have several friends in various levels of retail sales who assured me that the PS3 was more or less sold out for the first third of the month.
They are just going to graduate to the 360!

ME was a fixture in my local store's bargain bin and there were at least five $4.99 copies still in the bin the last time I went in January.
