For anyone playing this masterpiece for the 1st time - there is ONE thing you absolutely should just be told outright.
Driving fucking sucks and there's an item that lets you fast travel and it's pretty much essential. You can miss it though, and without it you'll be driving a LOT.
Spoiled below, but all it does is tell you where and when to find a sidequest and how to complete it.
After you finish the 1st side quest for George (finding Arnold), you'll get another one, where he wants a flower. Flowers only grown on rainy days. When it rains, look at your map and there will be flowers on it. Go find one and pick it. In the evening go to George's house and knock on the door, and you'll give him the flower. He'll give you a radio you can use to "get a ride" from police to any location you've previously visited.
Using the radio just fast travels you.

Man. Zelda didn’t make me get a Switch. Mario or Smash didn’t make me get a Switch. Deadly Premonition 2 is the game that’s gonna make me do it. Unreal.
Oh god all the memories are flooding back - NEW PLAYERS:
- Running through a door BURSTS him through it, which is hilarious but also WAY more efficient because walking through a door is a long boring animation.
-DO NOT read any of the trading cards. You can find them and read them in any order, and they spoil the entire game. Just wait until youre done with the game to read them.
Edit: It is fuckin wild re-reading this thread and watching myself from 9 years ago freak out about this game.

Just a heads up, there's some audio issues in the release, a patch is coming soon apparently. For example I played through the opening, and when you went through an area that triggered the Deadly Premonition music sting, it would trigger repeatedly.
I'm not too bothered because I still have Astral Chain to get through and it should be sorted soon, but it's something to be aware of.

And I HOPE the Switch version has both the "cheat" fast car (because laboring for hours to get a car that goes over 40 is just a huge pain in the ass), plus still has the "cheat" weapons that trivialize the rather lousy combat (that Swery didn't even want in the first place).
Deadly Premonition is all about the flavor, story, and characters, the driving around and shooting bits are pretty useless.
As of now it seems like some weird hybrid between DP on the 360, and the Directors Cut that PS3/PC got.
The Directors Cut extra cutscenes are NOT in the game - it's using all of the original DP cutscenes.
The Directors Cut additions (York has a house, DLC outfits, DLC cars) are NOT in the game.
The Directors Cut control scheme and *debatable* graphics improvements ARE in the game.

But without driving you miss the best conversations in the game: the film rants.

I would guess those extra scenes conflict with the plan for DP2?

You have to drive to a location first before you can do fast-travel to it, so there's still time to unlock those conversations.
Just saw someone on Resetera point out... DP2 is apparently partially set in Boston...
HOLY FUCKING SHIT
I would not put it past Swery to tie D4 into this so it gets an actual conclusion. There were already connections and clearly Nintendo managed to get the Deadly Premonitions rights off Microsoft, so why not throw in D4.
It was Rising Star Games IIRC, not Nintendo. They seem to own the DP IP right now as they also published the PC version and I saw their logo on the DP2 announcement.
I'm not sure who owns D4 but I know I've seen Swery get super pissy whenever someone asks about it (in a "please stop asking I can't make another one" way). So I think that one is pretty much not gonna happen based on his attitude when it comes up. I still need to try that game sometime.

You know, the more I think about the D4 comparison image, the more I'm thinking it might just be an elaborate easter egg. They don't match up *exactly,* though obviously DP2 is clearly referencing D4 there. Would not be surprised if Swery put everything in this layout as a nod to D4 fans. (That said, I do kinda get red room/other world vibes from that top image so maybe it's not part of the real world? *shrug*)
Side note, randomly got in the Deadly Premonition mood lately. Been rewatching a bunch of old let's plays and started playing a bit of the Switch version. Man this game was so good. I think I maybe understand some of the more unexplained story bits a little more now. Though I'm hoping the sequel goes into some of that.
I was thinking, I'm really curious if DP2 is going to reference the red seeds, considering the title in Japan is presumably still Red Seeds Profile...
Also still wondering why they chose to omit the new cutscenes from the Switch version. Ultimately I think they are kind of pointless and add absolutely nothing to the game (plus the sudden shift in visual quality is a little jarring TBH and I even noticed York's voice performance feels off, like he's not quite making the correct York voice), but they also totally setup this sequel at the end which, if the sequel is gonna be Switch exclusive wouldn't you want the Switch version of DP1 to reference it? :P *shrug*
I'm still debating to myself if the Switch version might be the definitive version of the game - that is, whether the omission of the weird extra cutscenes are a good thing :P I'm not sure to be honest... God though, watching some of these let's plays of the PS3 version... wtf happened to that port? How do you fuck up the framerate on a low poly rotating item against a black background?!? (also it annoys me that now across three different versions now they still haven't replaced the missing water texture in the opening bridge scene with George and Emily that was introduced waaaaay back in the PS3 version)
Call me crazy, but I think DP2 has much better combat than 1.
It would be hard not to. DP1’s combat was miserable at launch.
Well, the combat was literally forced on the game by the publisher because they refused to believe a game could sell without shooting in it; the game was never supposed to have combat at all. I think the sneaking/breathholding was supposed to be all the "action" gameplay besides the chase bits.
Which is also why it's quite easy to completely trivialize the combat, because the dev workaround to the shitty shoehorned combat was to make the player endure as little of it as possible.
