Wonder if we get a new OP next week. It's basically the last possible opportunity for them to do so.
Man, the next couple months of FMA anime is going to be like the last couple months of OP manga.
Nanoha's first season.
It's okay. May give it a watch, seeing as I have nothing else to do. Incidentally, I just found out that Ikkitousen (I don't know which season) is airing on a local channel at 12:00 midnight. Weird.
These are things you must name. I don't know, I'm just craving for some good action right now. I might even finally cave and watch Nanoha since I was linked to two fight scenes there and they were both pretty okay.
also the main character is a ditz of gargantuan proportions
Other than that it's not so bad.
StrikerS is where you get dynamic team combat. Lower powered characters, more specialization, and lots of tactics.

Uzumaki was definitely my favourite - Lovecraftian in the good way, and the occasional almost-certainly-intentionally silly bits actually made it more enjoyable to me. They added a small measure of tongue-in-cheek fun to the relentless, nerve-shredding horror, letting me accept the occasional logical inconsistencies and general weirdness more than I might have with a work that took itself more seriously. Oh, and yes, when it was scary (i.e., most of the time), it was genuinely scary.
Is there something wrong with me, though, for thinking that the snail-people were actually kind of cute in the end?
Gyo does get points for being utterly bugnuts crazy, though. The memetic image of the shark kicking in the door (GASHUNK), when taken in context, is actually one of the least demented things in the manga.
Whatever that dude smokes, I either want it, or want it banned for humanity's own good.
Weirdly, though, I found that the overall look of the comics (especially Amigara Fault) somehow reminded me of a Chick Tract I read once - no, I don't know how, either. Needless to say, the overall effect was... unsettling.
Which one of the three I've read was that closest to in general 'feel', would you say? As mentioned, Uzumaki was my favourite, particularly since I was a big fan of Lovecraft's stuff when he wasn't busy being ridiculously racist or drowning in purple prose.
The Colour Out of Space? Awesome.
Quid, you're past all the terrible stuff, it should be nothing but clear skies from here.
Amazon's having a sale, supposedly. I haven't taken a real detailed look yet at what's up to offer and whether the prices are actually any good.
Yeah I watched a few more episodes and this is my conclusion as well.
Seems to be an excellent example of a good idea with awful execution.
I need to let him know that he is wrong. But what the hell do I suggest? I enjoy things like Planetes, Black Lagoon, Baccano!, and Initial D so I really can't come up with anything that he would like. He has read Hajime no Ippo and refuses to watch Nanoha.
one piece is the obvious contender, though the (*snerk*) "rivalry" it has with the other two series might cause a little bit of resentment
make him watch baccano's dub, at least
yu yu hakusho could also work, though it takes a while to get started
I'll second One Piece as the obvious contender for continuously ongoing ones. It or Full Metal Alchemist are the two truly stand-out "ongoing" shonen series that blow everything else out of the water.
That being said, if he can't see how decidedly mediocre at best Naruto and Bleach have become, he's probably beyond help anyway.
It was a big let-down after Ippo. "Woo a new boxing anim... oh"
If it's shonen fight manga he likes, other than the already mentioned, I'd go with Hunter X Hunter.
That's because the main character is
Pulling shit out of nowhere is the nature of his ability.
the anime is notoriously awful compared to the source material (which is also pretty bad, but whatevs)
consists of maybe half of one storyline, and even cuts out or rearranges content from that
same here
just saying, senshi's post is pretty much vindicated in giant neon lights in the original material
Well, at least the Negima girls are a bit older. Not by much, but still.
All that time spent lurking on /a/ and hanging around in IRC has uh sorta paid off or something. I've had a lot of exposure to the original source material via the aforementioned places, I guess that's where I got it from. I've never played the game.
I'm in agreement, though--I don't understand the draw of visual novels.
Edit: I would feel so much more comfortable if the students in Negima were all 18 or above
so much more comfortable
Try Rosario+Vampire.
I guess you guys don't like Audio Books as well. They're really closely related. Some prose just goes really well with a musical score, and adding visuals to it is just a tangential step.
It's weird, I've always thought VN's were, like, the best medium when used correctly. A novel with sound effects and kickass music? Hell yes. Hell, my novel is being written with the intention of making it a VN eventually.
And I really did think it was obvious, I remember yelling "I fucking told you" to my best friend when
Darksteel,
Aside from SpecSpidey, which is the best animated action anything show I've seen in years, I suggest the usual battery of Tokyo Majin, J2, and Airmaster. All three have plot issues. You may want to fast forward away from the non-fighting parts in Airmaster too because SCREAMING CHILDREN OH GOD WHY SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU HORRIBLE FUCKWIT. Ga-Rei Zero is also definitely worth a watch, although most of the action is crammed at the start and end, and involves a giant CG dinosaur that rolls around on fire. Don't look it up first though, or you'll spoil the fun of the first episode. ZKC also has a lot of nice sequences, but it is rather long.
There are lots of shows that consistently pull solid sequences out of absolutely nowhere too. Apparently from an overabundance of budget, but they're definitely not action shows. And even stuff like Shana pulls some great sequences out every now and then, but... like my complaint about most 'action' shows, that shit usually ends up being saved for every other month while the balance of time is spent explaining how they're so great.
not really sure what else to suggest. . .
if he thinks bleach and naruto are better than one piece then there is no hope for him
I don't think he thinks that they are better. But he thinks that they are just as good.
no hope
Perhaps there is nothing wrong with that and instead of getting him to watch or read more shonen stuff that goes on for a billion years you could find shorter stuff because it does seem like he already checks out a fair amount of the longer stuff!
Alternatively: Fist of the North Star. Not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but hey, dudes are punched and their heads explode.

Merciful Odin, these people are messed-up.
