I'm up to date on Hourou Musuko and now I want more. Some thoughts:
The dynamic between Shuu/Takatsuki/Chiba is great but what I really want to see is Shuu and Anna get back together. Out of all the characters that had previously looked down upon Shuu's being, she's gotten the closest to accepting his character (with the exception of Maho I suppose) and I'd really like to see that go through.
Mako has been a strange entity during this reading. I found it hard to accept his introduction to the series (somehow it felt a little unnatural) but as time went on he became a part of the cast that I can't do without. He showed up as a force of logic but now even he is emotionally involved in this mess of a situation. Mako has been a great parallel to Shuu. While they share similar desires and have like traits, the differences between them (physically and otherwise) result in a two very different experiences.
Sasa is my favourite. The good friend of everyone. She's always tries to help and provide support even at the cost of herself. I can't imagine this group going on without her. I'd like to see her get a little bit more focus, maybe a subplot line showing her growing up.
Some small things:
- I was waiting for somebody to deck Doi and Oka after entering junior high but it never came
- I wonder if Sarashina and Momo's relationship will get more development later on
- The hinting during Sasa's introduction of characters doesn't seem to have occurred yet, I wonder if that was just teasing or just script that didn't pan out
Phantom anime was pretty good other than the change made to the ending that wasn't in the game.

Oh Cross Days. Hehe.
It's like an April Fool's joke or something, only... not.
I really like Doi. He's just as enigmatic as Chiba and it's difficult to determine exactly how he relates to Shuu. Is he attracted, merely curious, or just cruel? He's a good guy when he wants to be and supportive in his own way, but can also be a cruel jerk. If there isn't to be a continuation of Shuu/Anna, I think Shuu/Doi is very interesting.
As for Mako, it took me a while to grow accustomed to him as well. I understand the need for a "normal" character's experience with transgenderism, as both Shuu and Takatsuki are outliers. It really is amazing how Shuu is cue and sympathetic whereas Mako is merely pathetic when they both do the same thing. He's still my least favourite important character.
Seiya also turned out to be a really good guy and I really like him. The same goes for Sarashina, who makes me laugh by how non-conformist and carefree she is. In a similar role to Mako, Sarashina is an idealized parallel to Takatsuki. Where Takatsuki hates having a girl's body and wearing girl's clothes (Shuu is the exact opposite in that he want's a girl's body and clothes), Sarashina is unencumbered and can transition freely.
Have you tried getting your cousin into Kenichi?
I find the writing style lighthearted but coherent, the fight scenes fun, the character progression nice.
The main character gets stronger, but I don't think its going to get DBZ crazy. Which Bleach is sliding towards. IMHO.
Aw fuck it, who am I kidding. Bleach is already in crazy DBZ territory. Naruto's not much better. Better, but it ain't that much.
And I have to second the love for Darker than Black.
I love a series in which the main character wins fights because of brains and experience, not raw power. Sure BK has powers, but that's not what makes him dangerous.
Hei ghostin' motherfuckers even without powers = :^:
Hell, people just need to remember that he earned his nickname BEFORE he had powers.
Yeah, Spectacular Spiderman was pretty great with the fights. I've seen a lot of praise for Tokyo Majin, so I guess that's going first. Wiki'd Airmaster and it seems like a solid simple premise for much FIGHTAN so that's in too I suppose. Thanks for the suggestions.
Haha. See, realistically, that last spell would be very difficult to pull off if you're not pulling at least 8 dice out. It gets a -2 penalty for not being visible, and the threat of Paradox would stop most mages.
I think one of the most creative (if not the most flashy) applications I've seen of Life was when one of my players casually put amoeba strains in a guy's ham sandwich and waited till it messed with his digestive system. I was fucking floored.
The animation in the fight scenes was nice, though.
In a similar amusing fashion, get sympathy to something edible, feed it to your target. Use that to lock on and open a window into his stomach, portal in something nasty.
Vulgar as all hell depending on what you do, but hilarious nonetheless (like sticking a grenade in).
I'm sorry, but no.
Shirou's power is tightly tied to his character. To change it is to create almost an entirely different character.
And considering that I'd say 1/3 of Nasu's works is talking about the magic I'd say he has plenty of creative application of it.
The STATE of his Reality Marble as compared to Archer's.
Well, Marbles (Reality or Phantasm) in general in the Nasuverse are highly personal things.
But I laughed a fair amount at stuff and teared up a few times (but I tear up at ridiculous things...). I like Kazuma : D But not his avatar : (
We've had way more than six anime threads.
the anime doesn't even compare, frankly
Well played, Japan.
I've been watching it again while I've been raising my pokemon, but damn is it good. It has such a good atmosphere and just draws you in really well.
Togashi anime are so good and yet the manga always seems just above sub-par.
Admittedly, I haven't read the visual novel, so I don't know what symbolism might be tied to his powers. I was mostly going off the anime, and trying to entertain a cool idea after thinking that Shirou's power progression was exactly like how the Matter arcana in Mage evolved (reinforcement/repair->manipulation/transmutation->matter out of nothing).
I really do have to read F/SN sometime. It's like the most popular Nasu work after all. Then again, the same people who like it think I'm crazy for liking Kara no Kyoukai more than Tsukihime, so...
Yeah, pretty much. All the non-fighting side characters are just... just... horrible. And then And that screaming child... well... it's clear that they were trying to make it terrifyingly annoying (Fuck, just look at it in [vidurl="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEmSmp8CVRU"]the ED[/vidurl]), but good god they went way too far. The story is just "Maki likes fighting... other people want to fight her," and then they have a tournament at the end.
The fights are definitely the only good part of it, especially if choreography's your bag.

I also forgot all about how great Maria was in Tokyo Majin too. Couldn't find one of the good fights ripped though.

But never forgot Marie. Never never Marie.
Everyone in this show is mentally broken in one way or another.
You were expecting sanity?
Shiou's power really doesn't have anything to do with matter, just sayin. :P
What show is this? I went back a page but still couldn't quite figure it out.

Anime Fights
(keep the music on, it's really weird at first but the editor has really made it work with those clips)
Pretty much all of these fights (barring Afro Samurai) are extremely well animated (in some cases because of a movie budget) and you can see the difference between these sort of fights - where you don't get very many cuts and instead get long, flowing action sequences where you can actually see the movement between one attack and another - and the more common fights you see in other fighting series - where you often get one or two attacks, then a cut, another couple of attacks, another cut, and repeat; and the characters are fairly still on the screen.
