MOTW 3-24-10: Jeff Parker is the American Nightmare

He shouldn't even be cut up in a Red Arrow type of stupid stupid, I thought Parker was better than that.
Still holding out hope there's some Norse healing balm that will fix everything next issue.
We should probably take this to the bitching thread but--
I don't feel that USAgent getting robot-ed up and the same thing happening to Arsenal are really equitable situations. USAgent got injured fighting a drugged up cyborg superpatriot zombie wielding a magic spear while helping benevolent Norse deities fend off a supervillain army. Arsenal was injured in an overwrought and emotionally manipulative story designed to add some dimension to his character.
I think one of these scenarios lends itself well to a character getting patched up, and one doesn't.
But I was a really big fan of What If the Punisher Became Captain America? as a kid, which featured an injured Steve Rogers getting outfitted with robotic limbs. So I may be biased.

Don't you see? The entire reason that USAgent lost his arm this month is so that next month it's that much more awesome when he pounds that punk Scourge into the dirt with only one arm, Odinspear (I'm guessing that's what it is) be damned.
Sinestro goes crazy with shooting off a lot of white light.
The avatars of the emotions Johns tries to tie into biblical stuff which doesn't work because he didn't read the Bible.
Red's Avatar is a bull, Orange is a snake (which Johns tries to make the snake from the Garden of Eden, bwuh?), Compassion's avatar is an octopus.
Nekron guts Sinestro.
John and Kilowog kill Xanshi by blowing up the dead planet's heart (?)
Sinestro gets reborn thanks to the white light, in a quick way to clean his slate so Johns can rehab him after this event (that's what it reads like)
I have a big response to this, but it belongs in the bitching thread, so I will direct your attention there for my reply.
Edit: As a side note, the 2 page spread in GL52 of all of the emotional entities was pretty awesome. Mankhe really outdid himself on the art in this issue.

After a two month delay, Streets of Gotham gets back to being interesting:
The "Abuse" big man is actually an orphan who was saved by Batman from Scarecrow, who jacked him up with Venom, but the venom didn't leave his body, so he can make himself big and strong at will. The kid, Colin, is checking up on the location where the dead kids float into the river and runs into Damian who is checking it out, and they get caught by the guy who is rounding up kids for Zsaz. Damian breaks free and this:
I saw Nemesis on the shelf. It said "Makes Kick-Ass look like S#@$" on the cover and turned me off on it.
Edit: To clarify, Kick-Ass is really nothing more than gore-porn, and a comic that advertises itself as being more over the top just doesn't interest me.
Did anybody pick Nemesis today? I was pretty surprised to find that sold out, based on the massive order that my LCS put in for.
Nemesis was pretty good:
It's basically about a world where there is one supervillian in a world without super-heroes. His thing is to basically murder police chiefs and engage in super-terrorism. His plans are extremely intricate and he is pretty fucking ninja to boot. Right now he's focusing his attention on the Chief of Police for Washington D.C., who is apperantly really good at his job, and announces his arrival to America by killing everyone on Air Force One in mid flight and kidnapping the President.
Edit: This weeks T-Bolts was also my favorite of the week. Finally Paladin ad Ant-Man choose a side, and it's the one that:
Keeps the Odin Spear out of Osborn's hands. Too bad for them Scourge/Nuke's Uhmurica power was too strong.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.
I just read the scans_daily post about Mighty Avengers, and just loved the chat between Cho and USAgent:
"You had me at 'Screw Pym.' "
I see people gushing about GL. I didn't get a chance to go to the store yesterday, but to be honest I'm only really looking forward to Scalped and Thor.
Oh, and re: USAgent
Now he and Jim Barnes (it's insulting to call a grown man Bucky) can be bestest 'borg buddies forever.

I'm pretty sure Kick-Ass made a pretty good job of making Kick-Ass look like S#@$
So, Scalped #36 was amazing. I have to say it's probably the best book I've read at least all month if not so far this year (It's not like I'm going to pick anything related to Siege [even Thor. Sorry Kieron], and while Blackest Night #7 seemed to elicit some "Wow" moments from me in retrospect and in total it's a giant turd compared to any issue of Scalped).
It's part one of a two-parter about Shunka--Red Crow's right-hand man--as he travels to Michigan to send a message to his equivalent to stop cockblocking entertainers from visiting the Prairie Rose casino (The Potowatami version of Red Crow calls it a shithole in the middle of nowhere; like that's ever stopped anyone from performing at a casino that offers them $40,000 and travel expenses, which is why Jay Leno performed at the second-worst Indian casino in this state even though the fictional PR casino is a hundred times nicer. Whore's a whore.). But that's over and done and the meat of the story is when Shunka helps him muscle the ex-governor/chief to keep him from putting on a gay pride parade on the rez. Hijinks ensue, death happens and the last two pages are just awe-inspiring at the thought of what kind of mayhem will go down in #37.
It's a great issue. There are some interesting things we learn and realize about Shunka, some supporting characters who really move the story along, and a great scene where the ex-governor is describing how various Native peoples used to treat "alternative" sexuality--which is even more fascinating than what little he mentions, but that's another discussion--before the Spanish "fixed" the ones in the west and meso/latin America. I cannot emphasize enough how great this book was, and if you aren't reading Scalped already then you are a silly goose. And if you're trade waiting this, then you're in for a treat.
Though some good comics came out this week, I think my true Moment of the Week was hearing Keith get called out by the creators of Let's Be Friends Again on this week's War Rocket Ajax.
Keith, how does it feel to be internet-famous among a niche audience? That being those that use the internet, read comics, and listen to podcasts that are quasi spin-offs of comic blogs?

Green Lantern #52.
Holy Shit.
What happened in GL #52? I can't get to the store until Friday.

Is it me or does Spidey look a little off on that first page?
Let's Play Final Fantasy 'II' (Ch10 - 5/17/10)
Deadpool fakes Spider-Man's death so that Hit Monkey goes to pay his respects at the funeral, but who's in the coffin?
Spidey was a loser this whole arc, what a loser. Loser.

Ugh, you're probably right.
