DS9 was more or less rogue Trek writers going "You know what? There's no way the Federation is a true utopia. Fuck this, they have skeletons in their closet too."

Well, it is true. I wouldn't say skeletons, but TNG was definitely more of the 'paradise' ideal whereas DS9 showed that the Federation was not the be all and end all of the galaxy... and that not everything is roses.

TOS was pretty shaky overall but it does have my favorite episode title in all of Trek: "For the world is hollow, and I have touched the sky."

TOS movies had the best set design up until the new movie. The ships looked more like ships inside and less like college dorms.

Also, the uniforms, these were the best-

I like the TOS names. "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" is another good one.

    We'll Always Have Paris

on the whole i really respect TNG writers, if they fucked up at least they tried to do something cool

Things I found out about star trek.

It was one of the few shows that Martin Luther King would let his children watch because it had a black person in a position portrayed in a positive light.

    Yeah I am.

    I found it really cool!

I mean if we watch it now we just think chick wearing a short skirt is on TV.

But really she was one of the first non-white person just portrayed as a person rather than a black person.

    so I know DS9 doesn't exist in a vacuum
worf and o'brien and such jumped ship to the new series

but where is the enterprise supposed to have been during those fleet battles

was that ship I saw in that first video that looked like the enterprise actually the enterprise and they remarkably didn't call attention to it?

    no

Most of the Galaxy class ships were destroyed during the Dominion War, and the Enterprise at the time was the new Sovereign class. They just didn't want to mix movie and TV properties.

The fleet battles always make ships look fragile. They take one or two hits and then they're broken in half. It seemed like whenever the Enterprise was being attacked, the shields could at least hold for 4-5 hits first.

Yeah I didn't like that. In bab5 it made sense because there were no energy shields. You shoot the hull, you shoot the hull.

B5 is fantastically plotted but yeah you're gonna have to get through some overwrought dialogue.

Jurrasik and Katsulas are really the only actors on the show who make it work all the time, although Boxleitner is likeable enough that he gets by too.
