Tory Target 96, Brecon & Radnorshire, Lib Dem hold.

Tories take target 5, Harlow from Lab.

The BBC's top headline has changed to "Conservatives heading for big gains".

They still need 6 non-target seats in addition to all their remaining targets to hit the majority.

It'd be pretty shocking at this point if the Cons got a majority. A hung parliament has been the most likely result since the debates.

I also am not ready yet to assume the Lib Dem party is going to end up as disappointing as it appears right now

About 3 hours ago, it looked like a con majority was a dead cert, so it helps to repeat the hung parliament meme.

But the exit polling of 59 is looking more and more likely when I was expecting 109.

Yeah we've only had a third of the seats called so far... it's possible that the big Lib Dem numbers are there... I think?

Please, BBC, show me more of Gordon Brown's plane. Whatever will that plane do next!?

Conservatives have caught up with Labour's seat count, now (not that that means much).

When they say "recount" at the moment, they just mean the votes will be counted again quickly tonight. It's not a drawn out process.

Considering that this time last year the Conservatives had 43% of the vote (YouGov/Sunday Times 2009-05-08) and Cameron was considered the heir apparent, this election has been quite a struggle for the Tories.

Just to sum up a bit. Our analyst Prof John Curtice says that at this stage, it's looking like we've got a real cliffhanger on our hands. It seems unlikely the Tories will have enough support by just relying on the backing of nine or so democratic unionists in Northern Ireland. But equally, it isn't at all clear that Labour and the Lib Dems would have enough seats combined to be able to outvote everyone else either.
