Hi, I've been reading Penny Arcade since 2001, but I'm new to the forum. I wanted to share my webcomic. It updates every Monday at www.sigmaairlines.com and also at www.serializer.net.
I like pretty much everything about this. The arts good, the writing is good, the concept is pretty damn good too. One of the pages isn't loading for me though. The sixth one I think.
As far as crits go, my only nitpick is that the guys turns into a zombie a bit too fast for only getting scratched. Also the cover seems a bit lackluster compared to the art of the pages themselves.

The two bite panels are just.... It's like a train wreck, totally morbid but I can't look away. Although, almost all of the hands on the whole last page looks like limp rubber gloves.
Also the hand in the last panel (Is that a hand?) is really crazy off.
I thought that too, then I realized that is how the hand looks while hidden behind the already odd shape of the guy's head. But regardless, the hands are strange.
Anyways, looks pretty good. I look forward to seeing how this turns out. The art reminds me of Mike Allred (especially towards the later pages). My only complaint is that you might want to figure out a better cover, A) because I agree with earthwormadam, it's not as good as the art inside, and because it's too similar to the poster for Snakes on a Plane, and I feel like the concept is already similar (simply because it's in the recent past), and you probably want to distance yourself from that movie.
Snakes on a Plane + Shaun of the Dead = Flight of the Living Dead
(which is actually a really clever title).

I was expecting the worst, you've caught me off guard.
I really like the pacing, and greyscale work and I'm curious how you're achieving that effect. Your style seems reminiscent of early Allred and Pope, including the anatomy issues being covered up by most good framing and energy. I'd say if you can get a handle on that you'll be in fine shape.
I'm interested to see where this goes, will our heroine have to descend to the baggage compartment to retrieve yon holy scalpel of smiting +5?
It seems hypocritical to say "don't sitewhore, but if your stuff is awesome then it's okay"...
But this is really good. Well drawn and written, and clever to boot. It's the kind of thing you think someone would have come up with years ago, but you got to it first. Good job!
Great webcomic. I really dislike the bone-nub on the cover, but the comic is fantastically drawn with only minor anatomy issues. That bite was wicked, also.
Nice work (like everyone else said), and make sure to include at least one line from 'Dawn of the Dead'. Try "I think I'll just stay here awhile... enjoy the sunrise." from the 2004 version.

Thanks. I'm not really one for putting quotes from other stuff in my work... I'd rather treat the characters like they were real people and let them say what someone might really say in a given situation than try to shoehorn movie quotes into their mouths, but any references in FoLD will probably be from one of the Romero movies. You might notice Kat's last name is Cooper, this is a character's name from Night of the Living Dead, and George the zombie is named after Romero himself.
You will also never see the words "I'm tired of these motherfucking zombies on this motherfucking plane" come out of my characters. Seriously, this comic is not "Snakes on a Plane But With Zombies." It's "Night of the Living Dead But on a Plane."
To the guy who said I was sitewhoring, sorry if it came off that way. I want critiques on these pages, because I want to get better. When people say my pacing is rushed, or my anatomy needs work, or the hands are off, I take all that advice to heart the next time I draw a page. And most of the time I agree, so any critiques you want to give I will gladly take.
I've already decided to redo the cover when it goes to print. I'm not happy with it, and I think I can do better.
Thanks for everyone who commented on these pages. Should I post the rest of the pages as I finish them, or just let people go to the site if they want to see more?
This just caught my attention and I had to comment on it because I love anything to do with zombies. I don't know if you are either, or just wanted to make a zombie comic, but there is a zomibe movie about zombies on a plane coming out this year and it's called Plane Dead which was the reason this topic caught my attention. Maybe you do know about it or not but either way I like how the idea came about and hope that it gets better and better with gruesome zombie attack scenes.

I did hear about it, but not until well after I'd started developing this comic. I was about to scrap my idea, until a friend told me that I should go ahead and do mine anyway, because people come up with the same ideas independently of each other all the time, and who knows? Mine might end up being the better of the two.
Plane Dead seems like a dumb name, though. I was concerned a bit about the legal issues of using the name "Flight of the Living Dead" (until I found out Night of the Living Dead is in the public domain now), and I had the name "Dead Air" as a back-up. Dead Air is a much better name than Plane Dead.
It's original, and it avoids the possiblity that people would think your work is a parody.
Well, I asked a lot of people before I started which name I should go with, and without exception everyone said Flight of the Living Dead. The name is catchy, instantly tells you what the story is about (except for one person, who I was telling about the comic last night at a party. He said "Flight of the Living Dead? Sounds cool, what's it about?"), and I always get a little chuckle from everyone who hears the name for the first time.
Of course, half those people then say, "so it's Snakes on a Plane but with zombies?" Which makes me yell at them and sulk off, but that's neither here nor there.
Overall, I find it to be a nice departure from what people usually post as comic here (I'm talking about new members here), but there's a couple of problems with this comic.
One of the things I find to be quite poor is the tempo, the rythmn, the speed at which the story goes. It's a tad too fast in my opinion. It would have been a little bit better to take your time establishing a sort of friendly relation between George and Kat, so when George turns into a zombie, she cares a little bit more about it (still, I'd say anyone would be freaked and kind of "Oh my god" if someone turned into a zombie in front of 'em, even though they knew them for only like a couple of minutes).
The thing between those two characters goes way too fast, and George turning into a zombie so fast is also weird. The story could have been improved in that department.
Also, correct the tempo of the "zombie eats flesh" action in the last page. It's a little weird. I don't know, it doesn't look like there's a commotion in the plane. A stewardess just got her flesh ripped off, yet she only looks like she's: "Huh! Look at that... no more flesh on the left side of my mouth... huh!" The passenger who helps her has also a pretty weird reaction. I don't know, I'd be way more agitated than those people if such an event occured.
About the art... well, it's pretty good for the most part, but you seem to have problems with your hands, particularly in your "gros plan" (closer shots), like so:
And that'd be it. Otherwise, keep up the good work! :^:

It's really quite good except for the twat dialogue. I'm not entirely sure which of the characters you mean to be English. I'm not even sure we have a different meaning of the word to Americans.

Homogeneous distribution of your varieties of amuse-gueule
I guess the major difference (as far as I can tell) is that "twat" is a much more obscene term in America, something you'd NEVER say to a person you just met.

Speak for yourself man, twat is in lingo these days it seems.
The comic is cool, I read it over at the Flight forums. Are you going to try and print it?
No complaint about the comic, but do you have an RSS feed?
I don't personally have one, since i don't know how to put an RSS feed together. Serializer.net, which also hosts Flight of the Living Dead, has an RSS feed... but it's for ALL their comics, not just FoLD.
Great over all except for what others already pointed out. I only have one suggestion: Don't make the Zombies fast Zombies (also known as "running" Zombies). Those... Those are not so good.

Are these the flesh hungering variety or the brain hungering variety? I mean, he bit her, but he could have been digging for the brain, right?
And I was certain they installed at least 3 different emergency exits on planes in case of zombies. And Raptor Jesus attacks. And snakes I geuss.
