I enjoyed the movie, I didn't expect to but I did.
yeah i mean was hesitant to watch it myself as i've been burned one too many times by shitty things based on sports, but i think people get too hung up on the 'football' part. what makes it special is its close consideration of small town texas.
I've been meaning to get the book from the library for a few weeks now but I keep forgetting. I also enjoy seeing Lucas Black show up in things because I love American Gothic. (That being said I have not seen Tokyo Drift.)
it's not just that the characters are extremely likable; it's that they're among the most well realized on television. although that's part of what makes them so easy to like, the fact that they feel like living people.
I agree that's what makes them likable. The show's situations aren't the most interesting and I find some of them kind of forceful dramatically but the way the characters are written you find yourself rooting for them anyway.
I should start watching it again. I absolutely love the coach. He reminds me so much of my football coach.

i think there was really only one time where i found the situation unrealistic, and it was in season two and i think we both know what it was. for the most part, though, it does a great job of feeling organic. if you haven't seen any of the most recent season, though, i highly recommend you get on it. it's kind of a reboot in that it moves the main action to east dillon and introduces a lot of new characters, but it also focuses on a different aspect of the city's society, which is nice as i feel they were closing in on tapping out west dillon's drama.
Oh yeah, and Beverly Cleary books were set in Portland. I live less than a block from Klickitat Street.
And there's also S.M. Sterling's Emberverse series, which I've seen in stores but never actually read. It caught my eye because one of the books is called A Meeting at Corvallis, and I'm going, "Wait, Corvallis? The same Corvallis I went to university at?" And it turns out that it was:
Corvallis
Corvallis is a city-state at the southern end of the Willamette Valley. The former faculty of Oregon State University governs the city as the "Faculty Senate", which holds public assemblies in the Gill Coliseum. The traditions of the university have been adopted by the new nation with the school fight song acting as the national anthem and the school mascot as their flag. It is a very wealthy state that also controls the town of Newport as a port. The Corvallis military prefers pikes as their weapon of choice, bolstered by catapults and other siege engines. It serves as the headquarters of The Meeting.
When I watch some movies and TV shows I often end up looking for landmarks.
Aah Vancouver, you have been passed off as every major city in north america by the film industry.

Kellogg, Idaho is my hometown.
Dante's Peak was filmed the next town over from my home town. My brother was one of the main extras for it. We also had the world's largest silver mine and one of the worst mining accidents in U.S. history.

Nope, Corvallis.
Hell, I was watching an episode of Extreme Home makeover last night and the OSU beaver was taking a baseball bat to the inside of this house. While that itself was neat, the show was filmed on the hottest day of the year last year, when I was there, repossessing my stuff. It was so goddamn hot the train couldn't go over 45 mph or the tracks would melt or something.

What was the university like in Corvallis?
Friend of mine is thinking about doing her graduate work there.
University's fine, last I checked. I was only there for two years. But my primary complaint with the place is they had a basement arcade in the corner of the Memorial Union while I was there, and when I went back last year to see a football game, they'd taken it out and replaced it with I don't know what. Tables and chairs for something? Eh. Blorg and eh. They used to have a good DDR machine down there. 50 cents a play. And Puzzle Fighter.
There's still a bowling alley down there I never used, and a used book store downtown with an authentic used book store cat in it. Just walks around like it's its home (because it is). And on sunny days you can walk to Philomath and back. Only a 6-mile hike each way.

Oh man CWU had Raiden II in the SUB.
I had a 4 hour break between classes during summer quarter and did I study?
my home area is alright, go 30 minuets in one way and its all Gary Indiana, go 30 in the other and its hillbilly central, but I live right in the middle of 3 pretty cool town, Crown Point-Small old time town that was where Public Enemies was filmed and there was an episode of Quantum Leap set here, Valapariso-A more new age collegeish town with tons of shit to do, and Merrillville-Has a mall! I live within about 20 minuets of lots of other towns and about 45 out from Chicago. The scenery out here is very pretty as well.
Though more then my town/area I love my state, Indiana is actually very beautiful and fun. A few weeks ago I did Keg Floats down the Kankakee River and I just got back from a weekend at beautiful Turkey Run State Park which has some of the best hiking trails around.
I beat that game on one quarter at the end of summer.
My only claim to fame.
That's fucking intense. I've only ever beaten the flash version but that was after I learned the the standard red gun and straight missiles do the most damage.

It's all about that purple seek laser thingy.
That and bombs, lots of bombs.
Nah if you just beef up the red gun and normal missiles, everything dies a whole lot quicker. Just back up to near the bottom of the screen and be more concerned about where you are moving than where your are shooting.
Purple gun is the coolest though.

Purple seek laser and homing missiles are where it's at.
OSU at Corvallis is a good school. I loved the campus. I got my master's there.
All I got was my bachelors degree there, and I missed out on the whole being-a-TA thing.
Being a TA there was great. It was unionized and I made out pretty well. Insurance, tuition and a stipend. Now if I could only get a job using my degree.

ONE QUARTER DUDE.
I am amazed you pulled that off with purple and homing. I've always done better with red and normal though.

I do not think I would enjoy entourage though, it does not really seem like my thing.

Watch the very first episode. You'll know if it's your thing by the end of it.
it really took a dive in season 6 though
7 is better, but still doesn't really compare to the first three seasons, I think
Once they're already at the top, it just lacks oomph
Satans..... hints.....
