Dead Space is the only current-gen games I've finished more than twice, which is a feat on a mythical scale.

Not a PS3 exclusive, so I played it on my 360. But for my money, Dead Space is the best game of this generation. Certainly the best single-player experience, beating out even Uncharted, IMO. It should absolutely be at or very near the top of your list.

Hey, a question about Demon's Souls, for those in the know. To what extent can you grind at it if you hit a seemingly unsurmountable challenge? Can you go back to some early dungeons and work on leveling up your attacks?

It's sad to see only one recommendation for Assassins Creed 2 and none at all for Red Faction Guerrilla. They're some of the only open world games I've ever finished (the others being Assassins Creed 1, infamous and Red Dead Redemption, but they're getting enough recommendations). They're also downright awesome.

Assassin Creed 2 lets you run parkour style all over Italian cities and do some awesome timing based fighting. The movement system works really well - it lets the game stay in a medieval setting, but still have a fast, free movement system so you don't get bored trudging around streets. The combat system is fairly deep when you explore it, though tends to be on the easy side. And if you find out you like it, you could always get the first game on the cheap. it's not as good, but it's still a fun open world romp.

Red Faction Guerrilla takes Mars, populates it with scattered towns and small cities, and proceeds to give you more than enough tools to blow everything up. And boy, does it let you blow everything up. Buildings are completely destructible. Launch a few rockets into a buildings base and watch it topple. Guard hiding behind a wall? Imitate the Kool Aid guy and bash through it with your super sledge hammer. The games open world is basically a sandbox of buildings for you to blow the fuck up.

I respect Red Faction: Guerilla for what it does with the whole destruction thing

It wasn't actually fun to play though, and controlled really horribly. It looked quite awful too.

If you didn't play the first two God of War games, get the collection. It's like $30 for two of the best games last generation with upscaled graphics, extras, and achievements.

After you play those get God of War 3, because well, it's God of War 3.

I really enjoyed FF13. Some will agree, other's will disagree. But it's worth a try at least. Also, if you do that deal that was posted a little bit further up, $20 is totally worth it.

I'll "n"th the recommendation fro Red Dead. GTA with cowboys.

Valkyria Chronicles is pretty fun. I haven't beaten it yet (I think a lost a mission and just haven't had the will to go back and do it again), but what I played was fun. Worth $20 at Gamestop.

Little Big Planet is fun. Again, worth the money to pick up the pack with the free extras. There's no point to wait for the sequel, as they said all the player created content made in the first game will carry over to the sequel. It's a fun party game, I think of it as a Mario game with less consequences, more focused on being cooperative. Plus, its the only game I can get the girlfriend to play, so thats a plus!

Umm... let's see. I've played MGS4, it was enjoyable if you liked the other MGS games. If you haven't played them... there's no way I could recommend it.

On the PSN pick up WipeoutHD. Super fun futuristic racer. Can't go wrong there!

    Enjoy your PS3!

The trick to playing Red Faction: Guerrilla is to play on easy.

I can't think of any real standout titles that haven't been recommended already. There's not much more than 10 PS3 exclusives I could think of to recommend (which isn't a bad thing at all -- some of them are simply fantastic).

Look, we all know the best version is gonna be on the PS3, so might as well save him the trouble and tell him up front.

So, I ended up picking up Valkyira Chronicles and Demon's Souls, as my nearest Gamestop seemed to be all out of copies of Infamous, new and used (preposterous, I know).

Sunk in a good couple of hours into both, and I am loving them.

Got to about chapter 3 in VC. Loving every single second of it. Reminds me of the old Fire Emblem games, except so much better.

As for Demon's Souls, I think I wasted a good 30-40 minutes just customizing my character. And for the rest of the time, held back tears as I got wrecked over and over, but man, I can feel myself getting better and better. Made good progress after each death and really thought the whole "multiplayer" thing was such a unique system.

Regarding fighting games, JB Hi Fi has Blazblue for PS3, in a bundle with a Hori stick, for $30au. If I didn't give up on fighters, I'd be all over that.

Incremental improvements can make a world of difference. There's one boss that will wreck you, until you upgrade a particular shield enough to deflect its attacks. The game seems tough, at first, but once you learn the layout and what attacks work the best, it's not too bad. It feels great to get better at the game. There's a grind spot in one of the levels, where you can fight three knights. I used to lure them, one-by-one, and fight them with my shield constantly raised. Now I lure all three of them at the same time and fight them with a two-handed weapon, because it's a fun challenge.

Hey, whoever posted that slashsignal list, I'm 99% sure Condemned: Criminal Origins never hit the ps3.

You can edit stuff like that out if you like. I got rid of it because you're right, it looks like only the sequel made it to the PS3, but the Slash Signal is setup so that anyone can edit it.

Thanks, next time I'll take care of it myself.

You can grind and level up, but it really isn't so necessary. Like Chance said, the game is fair. It's actually very fair. As long as you have the skill you could finish the game at level 1 really, but your timing would have to be crazy good and you'd have to know every enemy and every part of the levels would have to go perfectly. To be more precise though, you can go through a level and kill its regular bad guys however many times you want, plus you can always put down your blue stone and help someone else beat the boss to gain souls on bosses you've already beaten.

Red Faction Guerilla's controls weren't bad and as long as you realized you couldn't just run head first into any situation and expect to live it was alot of fun. Tearing down all the buildings around you, exploring Mars, killing the EDF. I can't believe I forgot to recommend it myself, especially since by now it should be relatively cheap.

And that is why Demon's Souls is fucking brilliant. Because every time you fail you do get better at the game - and it's not the game giving you +.1% to attack or something like that, it's because you - the player - are better at playing Demon's Souls. And it feels so good to walk a little deeper into that eerie black with a mix of terror and the grim determination your slowly-growing confidence brings.

Just don't get too confident. 'Cause the game will fucking kill you for it.

It wasn't "casual" and it didn't "play itself", it was just a different type of game, you condescending silly goose.
Whoa. Defensive much? You say yourself that the button timing is a bit too lenient - I would simply say that it is so lenient, it takes the challenge out of most of the game. Personally I don't need every single game I play to be challenging - but if a game is less of a challenge, I'm quite comfortable calling it 'casual' (and games such as Demons' Soul are pretty much the opposite of casual from what I've heard). Doesn't make it bad, doesn't mean that the person playing it isn't a manly man with chest hair and testosterone out the wazoo.

Defensive much? No, not really. I was calling you out for being a condescending silly goose but now I just see that you've just got an absurd definition of what constitutes a casual game. So according to your definition, God of War's a casual game cause hey, it's easier than Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, right? Ridiculous.

Anyway, 5-1 isn't even that hard. 5-2 though, that one I got stuck on.
