I recently purchased 750ml of Maker's Mark whiskey, and I was just wondering how you all enjoy drinking your whiskey/bourbons.
I'm pretty excited for this bottle, but I don't really know how else to enjoy whiskey any way besides shooting it. The only other bottle I have purchased was some Canadian Club, and I just drank that really quickly out of a flask. This being a Kentucky bourbon, I was unsure if there was any fancy way to enjoy it.
I was lucky enough to have a scotch-drinking father. This means that I know that good >> shitty, and I will get a glass of the good stuff about once a year. You should too.
All bourbon is whiskey, not all whiskey is bourbon. He's technically right, although if you're drinking bourbon call it that, because bourbon is awesome.
son you do not shoot whisky unless you just straggled in from a Russian winter
whisky goes in a whisky glass, neat if it's scotch, neat or on the rocks if it's bourbon
night before last I went to the bar with a friend
followed up a Tom Collins with a glass of Ardbeg. Once I had polished it, I excused myself and asked my friend to buy me a drink, whatever kind he wanted -- came back to a glass of Knob Creek
what a joik

(easy way) take mint leaves a few table spoons of sugar and dump it in a glass. Mash the hell out of it with a spoon so the mint is all crushed up with the sugar. add ice till the glass is full of ice. Then pour in the makers.
This will at first taste JUST LIKE STRAIGHT BOURBON. Give it about 10 minutes and a good stir and it will taste delicious and very different than normal bourbon.
(the right way) combine bruised (not crushed) mint leaves in a simple syrup solution (one cup water, one cup sugar boiled in a pan on the stove until all sugar is dissolved) Leave the bruised mint leaves and syrup to steep in a sealed container over night in the fridge. The next day add 1 part mint syrup 2 parts bourbon over ice. This will taste better than the other way. Although the ultimate effect is similar.
Easier bourbon drinks.
Bourbon Ginger. Take ginger ale and go half and half with bourbon. This is pretty tasty. Sprite will work in a pinch.
Manhatten. You can google it. But it is pretty much bourbon and vermouth. (something tells me you don't have vermouth.)
Bourbon smash / boubon sour. Again google is your friend here but its pretty much bourbon and a sour or sweet mixer.

Thanks in advance.
Totally serious now:
Most good bourbon is smooth enough that you don't need to mix it and really shouldn't make a sour with it or any of that bullshit.
Sip it straight, over some ice (cubed...big cubes...crushed or chipped is blasphemy), or if you must you can mix it with some chilled water if you're on your period. Now if you must drink it in something mixed, good bourbon can be used in drinks like a Maker's Manhattan, but if I'm drinking mixed drinks I figure why pay for good stuff. Since I'm not a true alcoholic, I only buy good stuff so I usually don't mix shit.
I have won so many free shots from bartenders who mistakenly believe that bourbon has to come from Kentucky.
SO MANY SHOTS
It used to be true before they understood it was the hardness of the water used in Bourbon County, KY that made the whiskey taste the way it did. Now that people can mimic said water, you can make it anywhere using the correct ingredients, charred oak barrels, and aging process.
i've still never tried whiskey of any kind
apparently there is a bar here with a whiskey room where they let you sample small amounts of all the whiskeys
i am thinking that is something i would like to do
I like whiskey but I have a hard time with it neat or on the rocks. I love Manhattans and Old-Fashioneds, and whiskey and coke is often my go-to drink when I'm at a bar. If I'm already fairly hammered I'll shoot whiskey too.

The way I enjoy it is I get a glass. I pour the brandy in the glass. I sip the brandy.
I sip pretty much any whiskey straight. I'd much rather drink any liquor, other than Tequila, slowly than shoot it.

Lynchburg lemonade. Bourbon and lemonade.
Bourbon is so fing good.
Also, so far as I know, it only has an aging time requirement if you want to call it "straight", in which case it must be 4 years.
EDIT: correction, 2 years.

The tea is good, better than that crappy American tea.

mostly out of the bottle but sometimes i wasn't a southern slob and i drank it out of a plastic cup

This is even more bizarre, since in addition to loving bourbon basically the most, I also adore horse racing, and watch the Kentucky Derby every year.

stop supporting our commie friends to the north though and drink gentleman jack
whiskey neat, whiskey on the rocks, whiskey and coke, whiskey sour, old-fashioned
gin and tonic, gin and juice, tom collins
and so on
perfection
come back to me
