Yeah doujin is basically "amateur" stuff. Can be anything from comics to games, music to full blown animated series. Although the latter is extremely rare due to the costs involved.
I find it amusing to see this higher on the steam "Top Sellers" chart than the current midweek sale game. Hope thats a sign of good sales/profits for Spacedrake and co. Cause I really want to see what games they localize in the future. Particularly the one described as a mix of Civ and Final Fantasy Tactics.

It means self-published. Some professionals will occasionally use doujin markets as ways to work on stuff outside of official channels.
This is also why we try to avoid using the phrase when dealing with the Western press - "indie" doesn't confuse readers, "doujin" does and god help a reader if he looks it up on Google.
I'd always just figured "doujin" meant "indie." Glad I'm not too far off with that.
Sadly, my debit card has a borked, so I will be unable to preorder this, but... buying it later means 2 more dollars for SpaceDrake, Valve, and EasyGameStation (I assume, but do not care to ask) to fight over.
Shame on all you little girls. I SHALL BE AN OLD MAN.
Doujin stuff is something of a curiousity compared to the Western markets. All of the derivitive stuff (the vast majority of it) is patently illegal by Japanese copyright law, but most of the industry uses the markets to scope talent and it does seem to help their sales and extend the lifetime of their products. It's gotten so accepted by the fandom that it'd be suicide to try to enforce a copyright claim on doujin stuff too. If they really wanted though, the police could show up at Comiket and arrest about 85% of the sellers there.

My impression is that a doujin is anything made by a group of "amateurs" rather than a company.
I just remember literal stuff

I wouldn't mind some more Working Designs(RIP) type companies out there willing to work to bring out some of the fun games we wouldn't otherwise see.
I just don't want a deluge of shit because this one game sells well.

I have to play all my other games today so that tomorrow, when I don't work, I can just sink deeply into capitalism.

Nah. A lot of the stuff people upload to the interbutt is porn, but the majority of it is not.

WHAT
I must know more
Motherflippin' Civilization V.
Somebody give Drake a congratulations, because holy hell.
It's less than 20 bucks right now. I just bought it.
If I can get even a couple of hours out of it, it will be worthwhile.
I'll probably get Civ 5 anyway.
So Recettear has sold more than two and a half times as many copies as Civ 5 this week.
Let me download it already, Steam !
So in...20minutes?
