D&D CD Swap Part 2! [PM's SENT! Gogo gadget mailbox!]
Page-, listened to your CDs. There's a surprising amount I haven't heard before! But there are a few I recognize. Anyway, all in all I dig 'em both. Not really anything that I outright hated. And I appreciate the inclusion of Mother Mother. They're fantastic and probably my favourite new band.
Going to give Jinka's mix a spin next.
fake edit: I think my brother would really like these mixes. I should lend them to him when he's in town next...
Glad there were a few surprises. After I got your CD and saw where you were sending from I was sure you'd know most of the Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax bands at least.
And you must have known Stan Rogers. What Canadian kid didn't grow up with him? I'm pretty sure they played his stuff at school.

James. Listened to your CD on the way to Uni yesterday. I really enjoyed it. I hadn't heard of some of the bands, and some I knew in passing, but overall, it was pretty good.
Still nothing from astrobstrd. But things do tend to take a while to get here, so not too worried.
Guido, I should be writing up a breakdown of how throughly I enjoyed the cd...soon? I think that will be one of my goals for tommorow, along with classwork.

Well, if you sent yours right as the deadline hit, I sent mine 10 days later.
I got mine about 8 days ago, so hopefully Monday or Tuesday for yours then. I feel like such a scrub with no artwork and all, but I think the mix turned out pretty well, even if the last two tracks don't really fit the flow.
Oh sidenote to those getting my CDs- For the Tripwire/At the Emporium songs? Crank the bass. Whoever did the mixing on their CDs st the bass way too low, especially on At the Emporium's CD.
Seriously I want to get a hold of the raw cuts and remix the shit out of them and even though I have no idea what I'm doing it'd still probably come out better.
Finally had a chance to give Yaminosenshi's mix a listen. Overall, very pleasant. It doesn't make me want to sleep with him, but pleasant.
Here's the lineup
1. Sprawl II - Arcade Fire - off to a good start, I like where this is heading
2. Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens - Not familiar with his work, but am definitely going to have to look him up.
3. Float On - Modest Mouse - solid song, fits well in the mix
4. Rock Club - Anamanaguchi - Anamanaguchi is great, and I don't think I'd heard this song before so it was definitely a nice treat
5. Fun & Games - Barenaked Ladies - Here's where it start's heading down hill, I have to say I lost a little respect for you. We were getting along so well before this. Not only is Barenaked Ladies a mediocre band, but this is not a strong song for them.
6. Vi Sitter | Ventrilo Och Spelar Dota - Basshunter - Upbeat, but I couldn't really get into it, I think it's hard to work dance music into an otherwise not dance music mix though
7. Funny Little Frog - Belle & Sebastian - I like some B&S but this song really just didn't do it for me. I dunno, maybe where it was just out of place.
8. Ain't No Rest for the Wicked - Cage the Elephant - Nice recovery, laid back, four on the floor
9. French Navy - Camera Obscura - Great song. I haven't listened to a lot of Camera Obscura but I definitely should.
10. The Legionnaire's Lament - The Decemberists - This is actually one of my favorite songs by the Decemberists, definitely a nice addition.
11. Skeilling - Loreena McKennitt - Pretty, but it felt out of place here after the clip of the last song this one seems to drag.
12. Sing Me Spanish Techno - the New Pornographers - Upbeat, fun
13. This Too Shall Pass - Ok Go - Always fun
14. 1901 - Phoenix - Probably the best song off that album, definitely showcases Phonex's strengths
15. Everlasting Love - We Love Katamari - Fun, but a little too bubble gummy for my tastes
16. I Must Be High - Wilco - I'm not really a big fan of Wilco, but this is a nice song, it's got a real easy feel to it.
17. Flight of Torek - Aina - So, this kinda comes out of left field, but I didn't mind at all cause it's so great. I love stuff that's over the top like this.
18. Ikea - Jonathan Coulton - Ok this was kind a of a let down. I mean, it's amusing and did enjoy it, but after the rock awesome of the last song it just didn't hold up.
19. Dear Prudence - The Beatles - Great song. I feel like this was a really smart way to end.
Variable sent me a classic Rock mix. He also sent me a handwritten letter. I think this means we're going steady. Right?
1. The Who - Tommy's Holiday Camp - Ha ha
2. Steve Miller Band - The Joker - Great song, what else is there to say?
3. Bob Dylan - Rainy Day Women - Good follow up song, laid back vibes. I like.
4. Cream - Blue condition - I'm not really a fan of Cream, this song doesn't really do it for me. The last song was lively and playful. This just kinda stumbles on by comparison.
5. Steely Dan - Deacon Blues - this song is nice, but I don't feel like there's a lot to it. It just kind of puts me to sleep.
6. The Band - Up On Cripple Creek - I don't think I've ever really listened to anything by The Band before. I like it. It's just really easy rock.
7. Yes - Starship Trooper - This is new to me. Definitely interesting, I dig it.
8. Blood, Sweat & Tears - Spinning Wheel - Cool song, good stuff.
9. Mamas & The Papas - California Dreamin' - Always a great song, hard to go wrong here.
10. Billy Joel - James - Nice song
11. Billy Joel - Summer, Highland Falls - Somebody's got a hard on for Billy Joel . Another really nice song.
12. Elton John - Goodbye Yellowbrick Road - Good song, I think you started bringing it down too soon though. Maybe you should have put something upbeat here.
13. Neil Young - Heart of Gold - I don't really listen to any Neil Young. This song tells me that I should change that.
14. Simon & Garfunkel - Sound of Silence - Really great song.
15. George Harrison - Beware of Darkness - I really like this song. However, I don't know if it's the best end for this mix. I think maybe its tone contrasts too much with the rest of the mix.
Overall, I'd say I enjoyed it, but you'll need to give me more next time if you expect this relationship to have any staying power.
To my CD un-recipients: I am extremely sorry it has been so long and you have not received anything from me. I have finally resigned myself to the sad fact that I cannot, in fact, do an awesome medley for you. But this means I will instead put all the songs that would have been in the medley on two discs. That's two discs for each of you! Will be mailed very soon.

thanks for that oldsak. as I said in the letter I wanted to have a certain balance/flow there. sounds like I missed it but if I came close that's cool, especially since it looks like you enjoyed most of the songs.
blue condition and deacon blues are songs that I really like but none of my friends seem to have the same reaction, but I decided to throw em on anyway. perhaps not my best decision but again I'm glad you seemed to like most of it.

Very chill and very good
Still waiting on my CDs, I'm guessing they're held up in customs. This happens to me a lot so I'm kind of used to shipping delays though.
(Bob I just noticed your edit today and if you do want to confirm that you sent it to the right address you can PM me though I'm sure it's fine :P)
Yeah, getting a bit concerned 'cos the other CD was delivered a while ago now.
Hopefully it's just taking a while. If it's not there by next week let me know and I'll send out another one.
Mine was supposed to be there on Wednesday but maybe he was just talking about the one that was going to Seattle I guess.

CD mix received. I dont know if I'm aware of any of this which is hopefully a good thing.
I'll probably give it a proper listening to today.
Oops forgot to reply - I actually received it on Thursday last week.
