I've stopped buying PSN games on release. There's just no point when you can get them for half price a few months later.

Space Invaders Infinity Gene will be mine... eventually. :P

I usually do this myself. Dunno if I can hold out for a sale on this though. I'll prolly break down and buy it in a few days.

Ok so I was looking at this week's updates and I have a quick question about one of the price drop / sale prices --

What is Castlevania Chronicles? And is it something I can put on my PSP?

Yeah, every PS1 game on the PSN you can put on your PSP. Though some you may not want to, if they rely on two analog sticks or all four shoulder buttons.

As for the game, I haven't played it (I'm not sure it even came out over here) but I haven't heard good things about it. If you're wondering, it's an entirely different game from Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles, which came out on the PSP a couple of years back.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania_Chronicles

Essentially Castlevania Chronicles is a remake of a Castlevania game that was originally releaesd only in Japan on a Sharp PC. The remake being released on the Playstation in the US in 2001 and the original game being released in 1993.

Think of it as a Mario: Lost Levels/Rondo of Blood situation where the US didn't get the original game but got an enhanced port later down the line. It's old-style castlevania (Think Rondo of Blood/Castlevania III/IV) as opposed to the new Metroidvania stuff.

Also finally, yeah it's playable on your PSP since it's just a Playstation re-release.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ_zGqS7zAQ

Edit: According to the Wikipedia page, the plot is the same as the very first Castlevania game on the NES, so it's essentially a remake of a remake.

Thanks to Diarmuid, as always. I could get used to this.

I was waiting on the Comic Store post, but the PAL one is the only one to have gone up. When/if the NA blog gets theirs posted, I might update it if needbe.

You can make a PAL PSN and Download it, like, right now, if you really wanted. Pretty similar to making a Japanese PSN ID except you'll be able to read everything.

I'd guess around 15 hours on first playthrough, dependent on if you get lost much and on how much item collection/map exploration you do.

It's pretty easy to "beat" the game (and get the bad ending) fairly early (within a few hours), if you aren't paying attention to the story. Actually beating it takes a lot longer.

The bad ending is pretty mellow, but the good ending does a complete 180.

Woo! Guess what just showed up on the ESRB as PS3/PSP titles?

    Alundra
    Arc the Lad

Arc the Lad is decent (and hopefully this means that we'll get the vastly superior Arc the Lad 2 as a PS1 classic eventually), but Alundra is totally awesome and a game that I've long hoped would show up since I no longer have my old copy (plus a portable version would be great). More than that, though, these are both Working Designs released games. Does this mean that Vic Ireland & Sony have worked out a deal and we'll see more WD games as PS1 classics in the future? I can only hope.

When Sony Computer Entertainment America updates the PlayStation Store next week you’ll be able to access Imports on the PlayStation Store, a new area loaded with games directly from Japan.

MonkeyPaw Games is filling the imports section up with two PsOne titles, GaiaSeed and Cho Aniki. Both of these titles will be available for the first time in North America and, no, they aren’t localized. They’re horizontal shooters so they shouldn’t be too hard to figure out, but they do have Japanese text on menus to fumble through.

Can't say I was expecting this, but good news, nevertheless.

So is that thing about a comic reader coming to PS3 rather than just PSP still a rumor?

'Cause I read on the PS update on Facebook that they apparently put up Y: The Last Man this week.

I have the first two trade paperbacks of that and I'd love to get around to finishing it.

A couple of months back I told the guy that posts the comic updates on the EU blog that they need to a) have a preview section (since it wasn't noticeable what was a full comic and what was just a 5pg preview) and b) put the comic store on the PS3.

The first part he answered saying that it'd be kinda hard but he'd see what he can do. The second part he said that they're working on it.

Well yeah, I was more talking about the general addition of an import section. There shouldn't really be that much difference between uploading a Japanese PS1 game and uploading a NA PS1 game on the PAL store. The other way around may be a bit more difficult, unless Sony enables 50Hz games on NA PS3's.

Yeah, a couple weeks ago I got an e-mail survey from Sony which asked an awful lot of questions about whether I would be interested in being able to access comic store content from my PS3 or laptop (and more importantly if that would make me buy more content)

It's retarded that you can't play 50Hz games on an NA PS3, especially because most people are going to be upscaling them anyway.

Yeah I'm not sure why they do that. Sure NTSC compatible SDTV's will be far more common in PAL countries than PAL compatible SDTV's in NA but HDTV's can display both formats anyway, so it really shouldn't matter. If someone in NA is going to go through the hassle of putting money into a PAL PSN account, then they probably already know that they won't be able to play PAL PS1 games on a NTSC tv.

It shouldn't matter with HDTVs, but apparently it does.

The fact that the game was originally designed to output to 576i instead of 480i shouldn't matter at all if the PS3 is going to upscale it to 1080p anyway.

Man, getting Pain for free is like getting rabies for free. Sure free things are generally nice but do they have to be so shit. Sorry, probably shouldn't say things like that when I just used your LocoRoco 2 code (thanks for that btw) but take it as a warning. It's not very good and unlike other shitty games, it's not even worth playing solely for some easy trophies because the trophies are fucking impossible.

The money I spent on Pain I can live without, since it taught me a lesson not to buy shitty games but that 0% on my trophy list? It hurts me. It'll forever be the Australia of my trophy list. Embarassing and not wanted at all but always there, never leaving...
