The transition team has drafted a new document of Guiding Principles and New Rules for our community. These rules will go into effect on November 25. 2024.
Goldfarb insists he was happy with her performance, claiming that Coons and the moderators had ganged up on her. "She came off as the far more likeable candidate," Goldfarb said. "Coons just kept his head down to the extent he could. My view was that it was three on one, and she held her own."
Ah, so it was Wolf Blitzer's fault.
Men with beards are clearly conspiring against the Republican party. What are they hiding behind those things? I don't see any Fox News anchors with beards, do you?
Meanwhile, Wolf Blitzer has a beard, Al Gore has a beard, I think we all know where this is going.
Late reply:
I saw a few clips on youtube and Blitzer looks like he did surprisingly well. He actually pushed her to answer questions like "evolution is a myth" when she dodged them and he also asked some nice things like "How would you cut the deficit and don't say waste, fraud, and abuse because everyone says that".
I wouldn't have expected that level of moderating out of Blitzer.

No, I am not really communist. Yes, it is weird that I use this name.
Who is this Glyph and why is he making me sad with teh crazy.
Its also a near mathematical certainty that the Dems keep the Senate, and there is seriously no chance of a republican supermajority in the senate let alone the house.
Haloween decoration at my dad's house. He is writing a pretty "serious business" article about the tea party movement... but figured I would post this first for the lols.
I've always called Election Day "Halloween II", personally.
So far it hasn't caught on, but this may be the key!

Pretty much the entire nation is in full Tea Party swing and my prediction is that we're pretty much looking at a hands-down GOP supermajority in both houses come November and a full referendum on the Obama administration come 2012.
I believe the custom for predictions of such... shall we say, magnitude, is for them to be sigged for posterity.

I have space, I shall do the honors.
Hold off until you can get Mr. Rove here to assert that it will be a permanent supermajority.
Missed in the sea of madness was something of a tautology: "a full referendum on the Obama administration come 2012." That is the case for every single presidential election, you silly goose. Especially for incumbent presidents running for reelection.

Really, it's only for a couple weeks, since the first part of it's going to get blown to hell soon enough. I'm not doubting the Obama-referendum stuff- bids for second terms always are and that's like predicting the Yankees will make the playoffs. I'm looking at the first part, and just didn't want to truncate the sentence.

I can't wait to see the savage partisan fights over controversial stuff like military spending.
That's how fucking far we've fallen, shit that normally sails through unopposed will be held up and fought over. It'll be entertaining, if nothing else.
The dems seemed pretty damn spineless even in 06-08. I doubt they will put up much fight over things like military spending.
Edit: Completely unrelated to what wwt said. I think it will be hard as hell to predict what will happen to Obama in 2012 since the electorate has such a short memory and votes using massive cognitive dissonance. We dislike Republicans more than Democrats but we want to vote for them because *logic explosion*

Personally I would have ignored the fact that Vitter broke the law by hiring prostitutes (Louisiana is the origin of the quote "HE MAY BE A CROOK, BUT HE'S OUR CROOK," and they weren't being even close to ironic at the time). Just focus on the diaper thing. End every ad with the phrase "Tell David Vitter to stop being such a baby."
Speaking of racist ads, I saw one against Rick Scott that made me cuss at the TV. Basically it said that Scott wants to decrease law enforcement and prison budgets, thereby letting criminals out early. It had a Scott double opening a fence and a bunch of thuggish looking and mostly black guys in striped prison uniforms thanking him as they streamed out, then at the end of the commercial they were standing there, looking tough and saying "Thanks, Rick Scott". It was a horrible, race-baiting, piece of shit ad from a third party pro-law enforcement PAC.

The only person that could run and win is Petraeus, and I don't think he wants to.
See, even as I mock the names, I don't think this is true. I actually think the GOP wins in 2012 if nothing changes, because between the Fed and the White House they've kind of fucked up the whole recovery thing and the foreclosure meltdown part 2 is going to create a double dip and unemployment is going to be even higher two years from now.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

This, basically. If the economy is as bad in 2012 as it is now, or even worse, Obama is going to have a really tough time getting re-elected. His opponent won't really matter all that much.

I think it's not looking likely that the economy will improve by 2012.
This might belong more in the economy thread, but it's a really good chart showing possible future outcomes and what's required to get unemployment back to around 5 percent

My favorite is Barbour. Yes, this country is totally ready for and wants a corrupt, corpulent, good 'ole southerner who is in charge of one of the poorest states in the nation to be the next President.

Say what you will about Clinton, but he was not a good ole boy southerner. Dude was poor white trash from a broken home, blessed with a pretty staggering intellect (and charisma).

Wow, that just just a really good chart, that a great chart. And just as a bonus, it has one of the clearest and most reasonable explanations for why economists say the recession is already over.

Sadly I've talked to 2 people that seem to hold similar views to this ad while campaigning and I'm vol-ing in a really liberal part of Colorado.
The only person that could run and win is Petraeus, and I don't think he wants to.
That ad is also par for the course in the nasty world of Louisiana politics. And Vitter wanted to get especially nasty with this particular race because being accused of being a race-baiter is still better than having people talk about Melancon's two-minute ads about the DC Madame sex scandal that spotlighted Vitter as a U.S. Senator with a diaper fetish.
