I have to wonder what it would look like if there was no space between, the speaker and the waves
I've been wondering that myself, just trying think of how to do it without it looking like a dogs breakfast of conflicting lines. That space is certainly bothering me.
EDIT: Actually it looks a lot better regardless.

I haven't done a self portrait since last year when I did about a billion, I don't think?
I realized tonight that international self portrait day was the 1st, so I did one'a them things
I look decidedly overdressed for being alone in my room

so I just type in this box and it goes on the screen?
There's really no acceptable reason for it being as big as it was, at least I put it in spoiler tags >:]. I went ahead and resized it, sorry about that.
Also among other problems I'm noticing I'm only two layers in and I've already fudged some of the detail, namely the nose pointing in the opposite direction of the rest of the face. At least I'm noticing these problems now.
Oh and the finished Coraline is awesome. Neil Gaiman is more or less my favorite author.
I, on the other hand, am an abject failure who can't take a simple concept and put it into practical application.
GAH!
What's this for? It is pretty much impossible to critique whether a design is successful or not when you don't actually know what it's meant to be achieveing! (Apologies if you've posted this somewhere else, and I haven't payed attention.)
For me the concept seems pretty good but the execution is too cluttered and distracting. Simplfy.
I've been something of a lurker for several years, but I posted a few things recently. I plan to do a tad more of that, and so mayhaps I'll start here.
This is a kind of homepage for an epic poem/blog/comic I have been fixin' to do. I am trying to achieve a loosened, unraveling attitude. I have plans to design a border, and perhaps finagle with the line "A vague set of."
Of course, I welcome your criticism and observations.
really lovely letters, but I read it as a misspelled "vaguest" rather than "Vague set" you may want to let the words breathe alittle bit, or indicate their separation some other way.
Wakka, I followed your 'buy prints here' link which I notice goes to your DA page. I can't see the full size pic of the available prints because the Mature Content Feature is on, which I presume is because I don't have a DA account.
Might I suggest you host that image elsewhere, so anyone can see it (and consequently buy your prints), not just people with DA accounts?
Also, have you ever approached the Suicide Girls people with your work? I think your prints would be hugely popular with their community. They might be keen on coming up with some sort of deal with you. I have a contact there if you would like me to pass your name on.

Hmm, I'll add a link to an offsite of the 11x17 sheet tonight then.
Also, if you could drop my name to them that would be awesome. For prints, or just some illustrator pinup work. I would love to draw some SG girls, haha.
First of all, you need to cover the white of the surface first before trying to put down highlights. Second, if you are having trouble making something read as a highlight than your entire value read is too far on the light side of the scale. Third, this is gigantic.
Thanks cake and waka, seems to have work, i tried adjust the levels and it worked, lol
i was trying to use curves before i asked and it wasnt working as well
2 pages from an 11 page comic I'm finishing up. Will be posting the entire 11 pages on my blog next week. Brush and nib on bristol and finished with ink washes.

Guybell! where ya been? classy comic pages. Its sort of a product of being so retro, but while the gore is so descriptive, the chicks expressions don't really speak to how horrible her situation is. The inks look great though.
Im just continuing to fuck around.
The bottom two are intentionally flat and less detailed. Perspective is all wonky everywhere, Its something I would lay out in 3d if I were doing a refined work, I think.
Projeck: It's nice that you're trying more painterly stuff, but you should probably be flipping your canvas every once in awhile since that one is especially leaning a lot.
So, if anyone saw this previously, this is a pretty big departure color wise. I wasn't at all happy with it so I played with it and eventually saw a glimmer of something like these colors. So took that, blurred out the whole damn thing and started repainting everything. I'm in a much happier place with the feel of this now:
Face still needs work. It looks wierd because its the tightest rendering in the piece right now... but also because she doesn't seem to be payin attention to whats going on.
I spent less than 20 minutes on this, so I'm counting it as a doodle, even though it's for a school project (T-Shirt design for the school newspaper staff)

Edit: Also, Waka, goddamn! Incredible stuff.
Also thanks for the comments guys! I have a lot of process videos of that picture on my livestream.
I can't share my brushes though, as they wouldn't work for anyone else. Photoshop 5.5, ooooooo

What's everyone's stance on quoting images? I'll unquote this if i'm not supposed to.
I really like this, it reminds me of an eggplant.
