Gameplay video from Jimmy Fallon ahoy; it's short, sweet and looking good. The main points of interest within are the great looking fire animations as well as the totally ass kicking melee animations.
We shouldn't be doubting the fight animations at all. In 1 and 2 they were perfect, this is just very early code of 3 so stuff of course won't be up to snuff.
Heh. 'This fire is amazing!' 'I know...'. Who needs modesty.
Wouldn't blame him if he kinda left the room mentally after hearing the quip about his accent. I bet he hasn't heard that observation a million time already, Fallon.
Uncharted 2 was basically perfect, so all 3 needs to do is change the setting and locations and offer up some new set pieces, and it's done. I don't really know how they can improve the base gameplay mechanics, they're rock solid.
melee was a hell of a lot better in drake's fortune. it required timing (rather than just a lot of time) and had very real benefits in terms of strategy through the double-ammo drops.
if they could combine the stealth engine from among thieves with the melee engine of drake's fortune, you'd have a cracking combination

Can anyone confirm whether or not Nathan Drake will, in fact, still have his own bucket?
Jimmy Fallon is the worst video game player I've ever seen. You know it's bad when the developers need to shout "R1! R1!" over and over again.
Yeah, because everyone is perfectly acclimated to pick up and play a game they've never played before (or a sequel of a game they played who know when) on national television on the spot. Jimmy mentioning Sully in a passing quip "That it must be the beginning of the game," was a pretty decent call out of game knowledge.
Pointing out goofy nitpicking not related to the game aside, I cannot wait to run through this.
I'd like a slightly greater emphasis on melee, actually
I always felt like the melee animations looked awesome and felt great, but trying to perform them was asking to die, in either game
If they solved that problem, I would be extremely pleased
I'm in agreement here, melee was exceptionally handy in the first game, especially on the harder difficulties then it was neutered to the point where it felt like mashing buttons in the second. As long as Drake can't suddenly do Kung Fu I'm happy with a bit more emphasise on busting heads.
Umm...well, Uncharted 3 is a mature game so you wouldn't want your kids to see it.
And Nathan is a moderately good-looking guy so umm...maybe they don't want your wife unfairly comparing you to him?
Eureka!
On the other hand, if my wife is going to be lusting over some other man while we do it, it's a marginal improvement if that man is essentially imaginary.

Don't ever let her watch Castle or Firefly.
I was speaking hypothetically. I don't have a wife.

That stuff is rehearsed to a point ahead of time usually.
As for the gameplay, other than the glitching baddie, looked good as usual. Uncharted has always been about on-the-rails scripting, but man do they know how to do it right.
Mark Wahlberg was great in The Departed and Boogie Nights, but I don't see him as having the range or the right type to play Nathan Drake, unless the character is rewritten so much he might as well be someone else altogether.

He was there to break up all the tension of that film (because goddamn, it was tense enough to be overbearing) by showing up and just throwing out a string of curses
That's not good acting. There's pretty much no way that can be fucked up.
I'm not crazy about Boogie Nights either but I think that's more PTA's fault. I'd really like to see The Fighter before I make my final judgment on Marky Mark.
I would be much more upset about Nathan Fillion not being Drake if the Uncharted movie sounded like it was going to resemble the games in any way, shape, or form. But since the film premise revolves around some kind of antique mafia family, I think I'm fine.
Back when it seemed like Max Payne would be close to the game's story, I was pissed about Wahlberg then too, until I realized that the film would be garbage anyways
I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm very disappointed in the direction the film is taking, but at least now I can safely just ignore it entirely, instead of having an Uncharted film that I felt was largely acceptable, except for all the Marky Mark.

I will say the only good movie based on a video game I've seen in a while was Prince of Persia, and even it was loosely based.
But hey, if that's what it takes to make it entertaining.

edit: Yes, I know it's early, but I saw Drake miss a swing or two in that video. That's the kind of brawling I do not want.

I was going to give him a pass but he did just say how much he enjoyed UC2.

Oh yeah, I loved the stealth takedowns. I just didn't like the actual melee as much. I guess I'm just a square, triangle, square kinda guy.
