One final thing: SPOT ENEMIES. Hit that select button like your life depends on it. You'll help your team, it'll make enemies easier to kill, and it'll make you better than 95% of the selfish idiots that don't do it because they're afraid of having THEIR kills "stolen".

I never really thought about spotting like that. As if someone would think "this guys mine i'm not even going to spot him". I mean generally when you and an enemy make contact around a corner and it's over in 2 seconds spotting isn't really possible. But if the enemy is running from cover to cover or in the distance the first thing you do is spot them. You can get a fair amount of kills not even seeing the enemy but shooting under the red marker of a spotted enemy through bushes/trees and flaky wooden shacks. I think the few times someone called me or someone else out on kill stealing, I was literally boggled at the notion. Let it be known there is NO kill stealing in this game, it's called teamwork and thats all it is and ever will be.

    Tips for new players:

    - Use cover whenever possible, try not to fight in the open.
    - Don't try to kill enemies but try to stay alive while killing enemies.
    - Staying alive gives your squadmates a spawn location which is immensely helpful to keep pressure on the enemies.
    - Don't get too attatched to any one class, look at the situation and pick the class that would best help. No one killing that tank? Spawn as Engineer. No one using motion sensors? Shotgun Recon is a nice addition to your team. Need to get from A to B and theres just a huge open field/no cover? Spawn Assault and use smoke grenades <- cannot say this enough*.
    - Are you on attacking on a Rush map? Let sniper recon be the last class you ever choose.
    - If you can't fly a helicopter, learn how, I suggest this before loading up with 5 teamates and immediately doing a barrel roll into the ground on take off. XD

I like to think that its just an old wives tale about the kill stealing. What I think the truth is that its a unique game play feature in BF not many are used to or know about.

I mean its so ingrained into me now that I press SELECT/Q right before I press the trigger or see a dude but the bad part is that in any other 360 FPS game SELECT means bring up game roster. You never want to touch select during a gunfight in other FPS games and I always do now cause I am thinking ololz I spotz u...AHHH FUCK CANT SEE!

I wish it were just an old wives tale. But truthfully it's a bit of both. The fact that the button is named "socialize" in the customization options doesn't help get the point across either :P

I find the whole "kill stealing" thing especially prevalent among those that choose to play [strike]shooting gallery[/strike] sniper. Most of them have no interest in helping their team, just in shooting people from relative safety.

When I play recon with a long range weapon and optics, I end up doing much, much more spotting and mortaring than shooting. Mainly I use the rifle as defense against enemy hill-humpers and for spotting while my mortar recharges. In rush a lot of times you get 4-5 dudes clustered up behind a single tiny piece of hard cover, which some (asshole) hill-humpers decide they need to plink at uselessly, sending everyone scattering. MUCH, MUCH BETTER to just mortar the shit out of it, or failing that, hit spot, the whole rock lights up with red triangles, and other dudes on your team blow everyone behind it to high hell and you still get more points than if you'd tried to shoot.

Came back to this, I've been goofing off with the SVU and type 88 sniper rifles a lot, and I have to say the head shot detection is really starting to drive me bonkers.

If my gun can't shoot through walls, and all I see is the top of their head, then when I shoot them and hit...it should be in the head no?

I remember that one time I was the gunner and one of you guys was piloting. He landed quickly in such a way that the chopper was balanced precariously on its nose, and he jumped out to quickly repair it before jumping back in to lift off...before the back end of the chopper ever touched the ground.

I was terrified because from the gunner's POV, all I could see was dirt and rocks.

That sounds like a driver issue. Or possibly a problem with your graphics card.

I know sometimes I'll get a performance hit when zooming in on White Pass and Nelson Bay (likely some sort of poorly coded snow shader causing that), but never a complete white-out.

It's neither of those. Since Nelson Bay Conquest was released, it's been impossible to snipe in it. The game has HDR that you absolutely can not turn off. For some reason (probably because of all the white) Nelson Bay Conquest really makes the sniper scopes shit themselves with a flood of light going directly into the scope, effectively blinding you. Even the 4x scope has this, but only to a certain degree and nowhere near as bad as the 12x and default sniper scopes.

I can't remember too well but wasn't it in the Beta that it didn't have K/D on the screen? Then they added it in a quick patch.

And if they never patched the Beta, this means that it wasn't in retail and they later added it in.

Use the Spot button constantly. Stay in cover, don't sprint across open areas, when enemies are near or toward enemies. It limits your reaction time, so keep your gun out as much as possible. Always aim down sights and burst fire when shooting at enemies. Crouching does not affect your accuracy, but it will make you a smaller target. Always join a squad and spawn on your squadmates. This limits the amount of travel time.
Always pick up enemy kits when at a low rank. You'll gain all their specializations as well as their guns.

When playing Rush, don't snipe as Attackers. Use engy, medic, assault or grab a shotgun and play aggressive recon. Sniping on the attacking team in Rush severely hinder your team's ability to advance when you are a non-moving spawnpoint sitting hundreds of metres away from the action.

These tips should help you out in the early stages of multiplayer. Good luck.

All of the above is solid info.

Especially burst fire, the guns have very realistic recoil but if you burst fire you can hit targets a way off with AR's and SMG's, just spot them, then aim just around the red triangle and squeeze off a few, rinse and repeat.

Oh and on Rush as a defender, disarm the damn MCOMS, too many people worried about their precious KD ratio who are afraid to suicide charge and disarm them (which I succeed at more than I fail).

Essentially, Rush is about aggression on both parts, I tend to die A LOT but it's always for a good reason (attempting to complete the objective).

Edit: also, compliment your squad and spawn on them if they are not idiots. If you have an Assault guy and an Engineer in your squad holding down a base then play a medic, stick together like this and you will be a force (hard with randoms but it can happen).

    This x 100

I've had BFBC since launch and I find it tricky to stay alive very long in Vietnam. It's enjoyable depending on the game and map, but overall it is a grindhouse. You'll have more fun with vanilla imo.

Another suggestion for getting used to the game and ranking up is to simply play a role. Hop into a tank with an experienced driver and repair that sucker at every chance. I do that from time to time when I'm just having problems dropping people with my guns and lo and behold, I would finish first on the server or close to it.

Support roles, spotting, teamplay is a great way to rank up fast while getting used to the game.

Very much this too, BC2 nailed rewarding support, it's funny that the snipers sat on a hill chalking up K/D are levelling really fucking slowly as they earn next to no points for just a kill.

I have got more XP for tagging, repairing, re-supplying, ressing etc... than any kill streak (at least that's how it seems).

So, I love playing recon, putting on the generic AR and leading off every base attack/defense with a sensor throw or two.

If I am leading an assault across the map ill toss a sensor ahead of me and watch it fly to see if it picks up any enemies. I can sometimes check multiple houses at once with one good sensor throw.

Dropping mortar fire on snipers is fun too.

Ill also sometimes take the second sniper (the one with pretty good ROF) and a pistol and work close with my team. That sniper can be used decent at mid range.

I started off as medic, and while i enjoy healing and reviving, the former doesnt feel like its helping the team as much as the sensors do. Health regen makes healing a bit meh. Though ive had some nice fights where I drop a few medipacks while we defend and my guys seem to be able to stand there like tanks.

I unlocked a 4X and 12X scope with my recon, how do I use these? Are they just automatically placed on my gun? I would like to get the 4X on the generic AR so I have something other then iron sites.

Also, ive seen UAV fire machine guns, how do they do this? I only have the airstrike option. Do I have to hit Y to switch firing mode or something?

UAV or sniper + spot is amazing. My only issue is I dont quite understand how spotting works. Sometimes ill be looking at an area hit spot and like 4 guys will get spotted. Other times Ill be sniping one dude, fire a sniper round into him then hit spot and it wont take. I figured it had to do with how accurately I was looking at them, but clearly if I just sniped him in the chest, i have a pretty solid bead on him.

Health regen is in this game, but it takes a long time to get back up to full health. Around two to three minutes if I remember correctly. Dropping healthpacks is an awesome way to prolong a firefight or recover from an assault. The medic is invaluable. If half your squad is dead and the other half is wounded, drop a medpack first and then maybe try to revive the other guys.

You should find them in the first specialisations menu. You have to unlock the 4x scope for each class seperately. Iron sights are often better for guns such as ARs or SMGs, due to far less visible recoil.

Spotting has always been inconsistent, as with most things in this game. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I just deal with the annoying shit, because to be honest, I play this game for the spectacle and the 'battlefield moments'. Running into a building with an assault rifle, a pistol, two grenades and an underslung shotgun to kill an entire squad is pretty awesome. Pulling all that off and ending up with no rounds in any of your guns for a good three seconds while another suad bears down on you is crazy. Starting a reload, running at a still-crumbling wall and jumping out of it to flank the enemy only to be shotgunned in midair and land with your knife in an enemy's face is why I play this game. You may lose, you may die, you may fucking suck at the game, but it's such an awesome spectacle that I care about none of that.

Hmm, not sure why I couldnt equip them before, i will try harder today :). As for why I want it, i find it a ton easier to Spot with a scope. Plus I pretty much fire the tiniest bursts so recoil probably wont hurt much.

As for the medic thing. I get that it helps, especially in the heat of combat. But it just seems to me that it would be more impactful and youd see more medics if health regen wasnt in. Or perhaps limited health regen, where you have sections of health that regen but in order to get your full health back once you lose a section would be a medic.

It also seems that since I havent seen any players who use sensors or medics on my team ever, that the sensor is a bit more useful then the medic. Id rather be a medic if I had another recon with me sensoring everything. Instead they are off in the corner trying to snipe.

Is it me or are the medic's LMGs so much more accurate than the assault's rifles? I can't hit anything with the rifles for shit, even at nearly point blank ranges, while I'm off sniping like a fucking champ with any of the LMGs. Standing still, running full tilt and jumping, whatever, I'm so much more accurate and now I've gotten used to having 100 rounds per magazine that I can't play assault at all anymore.

What a game last night, Conquest on Atacama Desert with randoms.

I spawn on a squad member in an Apache as the gunner...holy shit we raped, had about 4 aerial dogfights and he would land and repair whenever we were bust up.

After a while we die, and I am hanging around A when he flys past, I hit Q and ask for a pick up (no comms) and he was already heading my way to get me it seems so we could continue to rape.

Wish there was a way to Bro-Fist in game.
