    whoa, holy shit

so NCSoft, makers of Lineage and my beloved City of Heroes

are donating 500 million yen (about 6 million USD) to disaster relief efforts in Japan.

they're not trying to do some kind of special deal where you buy stuff from them and they send some money and still make some money

    nope

they're just taking a bunch of their money, pure profits, and dumping it into the relief effort

    on their website they're like

    if you want to help?

    donate to doctors without borders
    or the red cross
or one of a bunch of other legitimate charities and NGOs

    don't give us money

NCsoft senior executive Sung Joon Park stated, "In order to support those who have suffered from the earthquake and to help restoration, we decided to donate 500 million Yen, which corresponds to one month of sales." He also added that, "We'll maintain the service with the minimal electricity and personnel. Maintaining daily life is also important; therefore, we plan to uphold the service." NCsoft's Vice-President, Corporate Communications Jaesung Lee added from headquarters in Seoul, South Korea that, "We sincerely hope Japan can overcome the current difficulties as soon as possible."

    holy fuck

    Good for NCSoft.

Mim, that does not make a show to me. The story is bleh and I get bored pretty quickly with it. Just not my cup of tea. The only reason I have it on is complete and utter boredom at the moment.

yeah, lots of companies are doing shit like this

"buy this thing we are selling, buy stuff during our sale, and some of the proceeds will go towards disaster victims! (the rest go in our pockets)"

    but NCSoft was like

    nope

we're just going to donate a bunch of money and if that means we gotta tighten the belt for a little while

    so be it

I watch things like Inside Job and I hate humanity and then you show up and totally rekindle my faith in humans, Pony.

    I keep telling people

    Corporations are like human beings.

You can trust them as much as you can trust any human, which is to say, trust needs to be established and you need to find out who deserves your trust and faith

    and, like humans

    some of them are nice

and some of them are psychopaths

A corporation is run by people. The system itself has not good or evil but strives for profits. It is but a machine. Now when the people who run the machine do something good, I would rather give them credit than the corporation as an individual being.
