Yeah I think the self-promoting jackassery is annoying but I'd rather .04 goes to breast cancer every time I buy ketchup than .00
Well, you figure they spend X amount of money to rebrand the product.
Then Y amount of money to do an ad campaign telling people about the initiative.
And they'll donate Z money from the initiative to breast cancer funds.
If X+Y > Z (and we usually don't know if they are), then there's some other motivation... like using breast cancer pink as a brand to sell more product and develop more customer loyalty.

Feral is 100% correct.
I would have absolutely no problem with it if NCSoft told everybody they possibly could through press releases and their website and their news feeds on their product launchers that they just donated a ton of money to the Japanese relief effort. I think that's cool.
There's a pretty fuzzy line between doing charity and wanting to be recognized as a good company for it, versus using charity as a marketing brand. And I don't think it's really easy to tell where most of these campaigns fall on that line, partly because of lack of transparency.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
You can't help but fucking love a plane which beats missiles by just outrunning them.
I've always been a fan of the whole leaking fuel on the runway bit.
I didn't actually realize that the SR-71 was the plane which did that.
Also this article is making me super-curious about the successor people think might be operating out of Area 51, which is, as far as I can tell, basically supposed to be the X-Com Interceptors made real.
The Aurora, right?

if you haven't donated all of your money to charity, you're a hypocrite for disliking corporations using charity to promote their brands and improve sales
Nope, that's not how hypocrisy or charity works.

I think transparency is the key element of recognition of which companies are ethically helping charities and which ones are just charities as a brand identity establishment vehicle.
Hey, is anyone familiar with comics? I have kind of an obscure question to ask.
I AM!
Cass says:
Okay so this is really vague
Cass says:
Someone was talking about this on Jezebel and it sounded cool
Cass says:
So Superman and Wonder Woman are in ... Vietnam? I think.
Cass says:
And Wonder Woman liberates a sweatshop full of women
Cass says:
and Superman finds them like, abusing the male supervisors and getting drunk and partying
Cass says:
and basically goes WTF
Cass says:
and Wonder Woman says something that ends with "spaceman" basically telling him to fuck off
Cass says:
What is this comic, what is the context, it sounds awesome, but what the hell

It's from The New Frontier, which was also adapted into a short animated film.
