I thought the entire entire conversation between jeff and ahbed was soaking with Tarantino along with a few random cuts in the editing style. Not my favorite episode but really really done well as an exercise.
Sadly the Office surprised me with how just damn perfect the Micheal storyline was and kind'a spoiled what I had just seen in Community and soaked all the fun out of Parks and Rec. That episode of the Office (minus the Andy bits) was straight up season 2 level of excellence. Why can't i find the office thread here? Anyone notice that the Community thread is probably the most active tv thread here? The Glee one has become a ghost town.

I can see why Dan Harmon put a warning out on Twitter: the people who were expecting a Pulp Fiction spoof and got a My Dinner With Andre spoof are probably very confused now.
I probably would've laughed more if I knew what the fuck My Dinner With Andre was.
It's Community so I know I'll enjoy it anyway, but not knowing about that or Cougar Town probably explains why I felt this episode to be sorta okay but not awesome.

I didn't see My Dinner with Andre either, but a lot of the jokes seemed to crossover with Tarantino jokes. As someone already mentioned, the conversation scenes worked almost as well as a homage to Tarantino, while the rest, like the opening scene and the ending montage were still fun.

Yeah it was still hilarious but people who go all "OH YEAH GOOD MY DINNER WITH ANDRE SPOOF" make me feel like I missed something.
I always feel sad when Thursday ends because all of the shows I watch all happen Thursday night. Then I have a week of "What am I going to watch?"
Modern Family is on Wednesdays. Not much else decent on other days, for comedy anyway.
I tried getting into it but I couldn't. I think its because my dad (who did get me into Community, Archer, Spartacus, and 30 Rock) keeps coming to me saying "YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS, IT'S SO FUNNY" and then I can't find it funny.

Not really. My initial post was more that I thought it was funny that NBC was advertising it as a Pulp Fiction spoof and it turned out to be a My Dinner with Andre spoof, and not "YES, MY DINNER WITH ANDRE REFERENCES! AWESOME!" I don't even know the movie that well.
I don't think you really have to know the movie well at all to get the important part of the reference, you just need to understand the concept behind the movie and Abed explains it for you
Yeah, it's not like it was loaded with references that you'd only understand if you saw the movie, it's more just little stylistic things (Jeff's narration, Abed's sweater, etc.).
I really enjoyed this episode. I'm fairly sure that I enjoyed it more because I haven't seen My Dinner with Andre, and didn't see the misdirect coming. It felt like this weird, super serious continuity episode and I was starting think what the hell they might do with Abed's character if he's really changing like this and then BAM.
It was very well played and I loved the way the non-party stuff was shot like it was a real film and not a TV show. And this episode had just about the right level of Chang. He was in it long enough to be funny without making his presence unwelcome.

I liked it despite there not being any real jokes. Something about their serious episodes really gets to me on some level. I'm not bothered when they do it because it doesn't feel forced and it makes me care about the characters.
No no juice and his awesomely wrapped gift were the highlights.
I also enjoyed Annie's response to Britta's boss being a dick.
*GASP* (you expect her to be offended for Britta and to feel bad) "EVERYONE hates Britta"
I almost lost it.
I also greatly enjoyed Chang's evil manipulation and then whining "Why did you leave me alone with him!?" Poor chang, he doesnt want to be evil, he just cant help it.
It reminded me a bit of the bar or hospital episodes. A few pretty awesome laughs but was mainly a solid episode because you give a shit about the characters. Joel McHale is showing this season that he is actually a damned fine actor. Angry, betrayed Jeff is almost the best Jeff.
I enjoyed the episode... abeds performance at the beginning was really good.. I didnt know he was such a good actor. I was also worried about the "new abed"......
Jeffs reveal stories were awesome, and you can see on abeds face that he wasnt expecting any of that
Last scene with Troy and Abed in the restaurant.... pure gold
I took the Jeff/Abed conversation as very Tarantino inspired as well, but if My Dinner with Andre was basically a movie about a conversation, then maybe that's all it was.
I really liked this episode. Understated eps like this help keep the show somewhat grounded in reality. They also lead to a lot of character growth. Not a lot of laughs, but a well written, well executed episode which gives depth and a bit of a breather from all of the really weird shit from earlier in the season.
McHale is improving as an actor. Still needs some work on the "Suddenly I'm happy/enlightened" stuff (like when he suddenly opened up to Abed), but he's streets ahead of where he was when he started. Angry/snarky/cool Jeff is dead on.
I loved Pierce in the restaurant while wearing the Gimp suit: "You're gay!"

If yes, then you'll enjoy Cougar Town.
EDIT: And yes, horrible name. I ignore most of the first season just due to it.
Well that was at least my interpretation of it. But given that that was actually supposed to be My Dinner With Andre I could be wrong.
Hey, I have a blog! (Actually being updated again!)

Jeff and Abed's conversation and especially Jeff's opening/closing narration were pretty My Dinner With Andre-inspired.
I think it was solid, but for Community that's nothing special.
I like that Abed is actively trying to reconnect. That's some good character development.
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
I think the homage overlapped in an unexpectedly fantastic way.
the episode had very little to do with Tarantino aside from the costumes and some of the b-plot jokes

But I'll try again when we get season 1 on DVD.

You have no idea how much this is crushing my neurosis. Every other thing that has been in the background of Community, has been in the background.
enjoyed the twist/misdirect a lot
also great episode. dani pudi killed it in the pre-reveal part, great acting.
I liked seeing Britta's life for a second. I really enjoy how the characters have lives away from school.
Done.

A Chang for the better, then?
Why I fear the ocean.
maybe i'm streaming terrible dj right now if i am its here
Goddamnit Abed.
With the light and the authentication note and all.

I was kind of hoping they kept the contents of briefcase closed, honoring the maguffin of the film, but I can see how they needed to explain the gift.
its best that the source of the light
Danny Pudi nailed it.
Jeff has some baggage.
So, is Chang just part of the group now? He did win the vote back in the study mixer episode.
I was hoping there there would be some nod to The IT Crowd since this was the episode directed by Moss, and Joel was in the failed US pilot with him.
Also, since I totally forgot to look for the new thread until today, OP needs Slater and Vaughn
And finally, screw Hulu for putting a clip with a spoiler right under the episode

Reading the wikipedia, it sounds kind of boring.
