Oh god I just saw a Shatner one I'd never seen before, "Nick of Time"

Shatner did his thing like he always does, but it actually ended in a pretty spectacular way that I was not expecting

I'm not even sure there was any supernatural/spooky/magic stuff that happened in it at all!

    It was so good

I checked a couple months ago if it was on Netflix Instant and it wasn't, glad to see they rectified that

Is it just me, though, or is season 4 missing?

edit: wow, they added a ton of stuff including Top Gear, Twin Peaks, and Young Indiana Jones

I think it might be at the moment

It's supposed to be the whole series, though, since they cut a big deal with Fox, so it'll probably get fixed soon

    I liked Four O'Clock.
A guy constantly writes angry letters, pointing fingers at potential communists and otherwise ratting out everyone he thinks could be trouble some in any way, and tormenting people he didn't like, because he thought he was doing a public service.

And then one day he decides to punish all the evil people by turning them all 2 feet tall somehow, at Four O'Clock.

Then the time comes for his plan, and he's suddenly a midget. Oh Noooo.

Also, I think Eye of the Beholder was one of the greatest things ever.

Also, while I think Nightmare at 20,000 feet is mostly pretty laughable today, the part where the creature swoops in and lands on the wing still creeps the shit out of me.

Netflix is now like a channel that only shows I really like but never got to see all the episodes of
Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, 1970's Saturday Night Live, The Avengers, and Mission Impossible.

    Mission: Impossible is pretty badass
There's very little dialog and most of what there is doesn't pertain to the plot at all
    All misdirection

    Just finished rewatching Season 1.

Monsters Are Due is just such a good episode, especially for coming out in 1960.

    Here's the entire wrap-up narration:
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own - for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone

    The last sentence is great.

Honestly it's hard to pick a favorite from the first season. People Are Alike All Over was pretty hilarious at the end.

It's not on Netflix, nor has it ever been collected on DVD

If you have Chiller, they play marathons of it frequently and there are episodes of it on youtube

It is the direct happy medium between Tales from the Crypt and The Twilight Zone

Go to the head of the class didn't scare me
But for some reason the boy from the Family Dog episode did

    Here's a story
When I was a real little kid and I had to go to sleep at nine
I snuck into the living room to see what my parent were watching
They were watching Married With Children
Should have been no big deal
Only this episode was the one where everyone wants Buck to get neutered
So I managed to catch the show right when Al was having his dream that Buck was a full grown man in a dog suit
And his neighbor was Leatherface with a chainsaw

now that i made that post i can start freaking out about how much i love this kind of show

i'm pretty sure watching the outer limits as a kid made me love short horror fiction and SF - a lot of the stuff I was writing a few years ago mimicked Twilight Zone structures fairly well

another thing that is similar to twilight zone's turnabout structure is the scp foundation (i had to link to the stuff i wrote, because i'm an attention whore.)

also many of stephen king's best short fiction pieces are similar to TZ. i'm thinking particularly of the finger and 1408.

    horror is amazing

I was hoping you would enjoy this thread Orik! Please feel free to recommend more good horror stuff because I can never find any of the good stuff ever (outside of King's short stories)

well, i like house of leaves and the sandman - "24 hours" in particular gives me chills every time. swamp thing is excellent. read lovecraft if you haven't.

other than that.. hm. good horror is hard to find. read the Foundation.

I think you and I are the only people who liked House of Leaves.

On this forum, anyway. I always see people talking shit about it.

I enjoyed A Game of Pool.

Also, did anyone else listen to The Shadow?

I suppose only the shadow knows.

I've never listened to The Shadow, but I have listened to many episodes of The Whistler, which was quite similar to the Twilight Zone. Each episode was a mystery story from the POV of the criminal, showing what led up to them committing their crime (almost always murder) and how they tried to get away with it. What made it like the Twilight Zone is that almost every episode would end on a twist, some unexpected development that typically foiled the protagonist's scheme and got them arrested and killed. Knowing there would be a twist often made it easy to predict, but it was still very interesting, and fun to see a mystery unfold from the opposite side.

It could also be rather creepy at times, because instead of the narrator being calm and neutral like Rod Serling, he'd often taunt the protagonists and encourage them onward.

    Only heard one Whistler.

Little more of the Shadow, but only once he stopped hosting and started starring. Started out boss with Orson Welles and all sorts of weird, spooky stuff. Mystics, time loops, all that, with the Shadow being the creepiest guy ever.

Later on threats got more and more conventional, got dull.

Started watching this on Netflix, thanks to you guys. I used to watch these as a kid and loved it, but for some reason they rarely aired on my local networks, but it ran all the freaking time when I'd visit my grandparents in L.A. So I have a strange attachment to the show.

Some episodes are a bit mundane (could barely make through the aging starlet one), but the forward thinking in some is downright scary if sometimes odd. Sensory deprivation for trips to the moon. I guess no one thought that astronauts would have windows or radio communications.

But the one that really gave me culture shock was the one with Ed Wynn the Pitchman. Imagine today an aging old bachelor who gave away free toys to kids and invited them into his apartment. Today he'd be accused of being a pedophile just for talking to kids on the street. What happened to America that men aren't allowed to have innocent affection for children? Anyways, don't mean to rant I just thought it was one of those things that didn't age well for all the wrong reasons.
