I wish people would stop trying to tie recent X series games to the Zero series. They're being made entriely without consideration for each other's plots.

Quite the opposite, actually. There are elements from each that spill over into one-another, such as the orbital elevators, the premonitions of Zero's future in X7, and more.

And it seems now that Rockman ZX Advent may just bring Axl back into the mix.

Plus, the Rockman Zero Complete Works (being translated for American publication by Udon) seems to cover a bit of X stuff as well.
Besides, doesn't [realspoiler:9644608264] the fact that Omega is Zero's original body, yet looks like MMZ Zero [/realspoiler:9644608264] suggest that MMZ wound up using some sort of retconned version of the X storyline?

Not really. Besides proposed changes in technology and style over time (such as X's new look in Command Mission, for example), it's been said that Inti has simply passed it off as artistic interpretation, and nothing significant.

For which I personally call bullshit. I can take it for something like X8, where the characters are still recognizable, but that's what they seem to be sticking by.
Wasn't that what MHX was supposed to be anyway? I thought it was originally going to stop at X6 and lead into Zero so Inafune could have everything the way he wanted.

MHX is retelling the story, and MMX was originally supposed to end at X5 under Inafune's direction, but Capcom said no. So later things have been added, and Inti has done their damnedest to make sure everything fits together. There has been some bits of rewriting here and there, the greatest example of which perhaps being Cain's early demise, but for the most part, the rest fits together.
Besides, I'm pretty sure by now the overarching plot is far too full of holes without some sort of retconning.

Not as much as you think. The problem is, Capcom doesn't tell their stories in their games. No, they tell them in books, published in Japan. Stuff that leaves us by and large clueless about things until someone bothers to hunt down a copy and translate it and tell the rest of the world about it.

At least, as noted, Udon's making one rectification of that come May...

Megaman 2 has some of the best music for the NES era. This is a kickass cover of the Wily theme.

I love the original Megaman. Unfortunately, I never really got into the X series. Just didn't care for it as much. I LOVED Legends 1, though. That game was fantastic.

Anyway. I got all the original Megaman games in one form or the other, and play them as often as I can. I also own all the Hitoshi Ariga comics, which are bloody amazing even if I can't speak Japanese. You can just TELL.

EDIT: Screw looking at the purdy pictures. Some nice geeky anime folk have translated half of the comics. Check em out!

I wonder where the mega man franchise will go, and if we will get another classic Mega Man game.

The series is Inafune's baby. I think he's managed to keep Capcom from doing what it did with the X series now, judging by the way that MMZ actually, you know, ended. (I'm guessing with him being the only big talent left at Capcom they're going to try and keep him happy)

The way I see it, the series is gradually moving away from several core elements. Look at the way the Zero series reinvented large parts of itself each game, look at ZX. The series is moving, if you ask me, to a more open ended style (even more so then ZX) Perhaps even making it so you just find bosses in each area instead of first selecting a mission.

Hey, what's this about Rockman Zero Complete Works being translated? I want link!

    Awesome.

I'll have to try and snag that.

Darn it Capcom, put the plot in the games!

Once upon a time, I had the terrible Megaman 1 and 3 PC games. Even in a horrifically butchered state, they were the best games I had at the time.

I like Mega Man, but I must admit, I prefer the X series. (Pre-Playstation, that is...) ZX was pretty nice as well. I wish I could bring myself to pay the money for the Zero games, but they're still like $20-30 apiece. *rambling*

How were the classic Mega Man games on gameboy? Furthermore, what's the best collection? (I only have a PS2 and XBox.) Finally, was the Mega Man & Bass GBA game ever released in the states?

The Gameboy games were pretty good i only had the first 2 but i enjoyed them.

Get the XBOX version of the anniversary collection because from what i hear it has everything that the PS2 and GC versions do.

Megaman and Bass was released in the states.

I could never stand the classic Megaman games. The music in MM2 for the gameboy was - and still is - some of the best ever though as some of you have already said. The first MMZ is perhaps the one I've enjoyed the most so far but you can't really call me a connoisseur of all things MM. The sheer exactness of the maneuvers in MMZ is rather exhilarating though.

    MMZ is rather fluid.

You're always dashing, throwing around your main weapon, always keeping a buster short charged.

It's awesome when you can just never stop. :)

I never liked MM and MMX when I was a kid because I was pretty bad at games, but in the past couple of years I've fallen in love with the series and have been consistently playing the game everyday (though usually just a couple levels). It's probaly one of my favorite game series now.

Also, this is the first time I've discovered this hillariousy awesome song

They weren't even butchered, they were from-the-ground-up seperate crappy entities of their own.

I didn't care for Dr. Wily's Revenge, but the rest are pretty good.

PS2 and XBox are both better than the Cube version of MMAC, but I think XBox has a little more bonus material.

MM&B did come out for GBA some time ago.
