The Frying Pan is actually not too far from my office as well...I guess that could be a good place to meet up in the afternoon and have a couple of drinks. Afterwards, for those without obligations, there's always 32nd street for Korean food/karaoke and the LES, which has some good spots as well.

Hey so I'm leaving on this thing early early in the morning and am gonna be a little indisposed for anyone who isn't my current or imminent couch
so!
Tomewyrm aka Jon is in charge of the nyc meetup itinerary. my only request is that we go to a nice karaoke bar with a setlist that doesn't suck and proceed to have a great time
Okay! So from what I'm gathering, the Frying Pan is a good spot for people to meet up after work on Friday. It's located basically on the corner of 12th Ave and 26th Street, on the river, Pier 66 Maritime. They have a decent looking food menu, with entrees hovering around $10, so we could totally just eat dinner there if you guys wanted to do that. Afterwards, those so inclined can hop in a cab and head down to the West4 location of Karaoke Boho, which has reasonable rates made downright good if we reserve a room (should be $6.80/hour/person). There is also the front bar if we don't have enough people to merit renting a room, where songs are $2 each.
So in summary, meeting at the Frying Pan around 5:30-6:00 for dinner and drinks, then I'm thinking hitting up karaoke around 9:00 and staying there however long we'd like. I'd like to know for sure how many people we're having by Wednesday night if possible, so I can go ahead and make the reservation at Boho.
Send me a PM or post a confirmation here so I'll know how many we'll have. Hope everyone can make it!
Don't miss this. You'll make Tarranon cry. I don't want to have to deal with a crying Tarranon.

Hrm...I also don't get summer Friday hours, though it wouldn't be impossible for me to get out a couple hours early. But if Frying Pan gets that bro-packed that early, maybe we should consider a relocation.
There's always the Slaughtered Lamb on West 4th. Pretty cool, but not an outdoors bar, though there is a chance of rain on Friday. Does anyone know of a good beer garden in the area for if the weather is pleasant?
I saw that as well, though I've never been. I'd be totally down to try it out, though. And if for whatever reason it's unacceptable to us, Greenwich is full of places.
So how about that? Meet at Vol de Nuit (148 West 4th St.) around 5:30, drink a bit, grab some food, karaoke at 8:00 or 9:00?

I don't usually have summer Fridays at my company (we're one of the few in the music industry that doesn't), but I will this Friday, as my department is getting out early to go to the Frying Pan. One of those "team-building" things. So regardless of PA forum plans, I'll be there from 2-5 at least.
I could scout out the crowd situation, maybe post with an update?

I think unless the majority of us were able to get there early enough to secure seating for everyone else, it might be best if we scrap the Frying Pan this time around. Plus there's a chance for rain on Friday, which might make drinking outdoors on a boat slightly less than ideal.
I say we go to Vol de Nuit if it's not already raining, and if the weather holds we can stay there. If not, we can always migrate to the Slaughtered Lamb and drink English beers in a dungeon. Greenwich is full of bars/restaurants as well, so there shouldn't be any lack of places to go if we're just in the area.
What times are you guys expecting to be able to make it, and will you want to participate in karaoke?
hey dudes. I don't know any of you locals personally but I would be down for NYC forumer meetup thing if you'll have me. Still only know people from work in this damn city and I miss hanging with fellow nerds... (Also someone said the magic word: karaoke.) No summer Fridays here either though; Fridays are usually my latest day, which is hilarious considering it's a food/nightlife-centered publication.
ALRIGHTY! I've gotten confirmations from some of you guys, and I think I feel that it's safe enough to lay down an official plan for tomorrow evening here in NYC.
Due to the threat of rain throughout the day, I think we should avoid an outdoor bar. Which sucks, but hey, weather. That in mind, The Slaughtered Lamb will be a good spot to meet up for drinks. It's a good English pub with plenty of space downstairs and a cool atmosphere. It's located at 182 West 4th Street, which is super close to the West 4th stop (A, B, C, D, E, F, and M trains). Prices there are pretty average for NYC ($5-6 for a beer), and I'm going to try and get there between 5:00 and 5:30 to claim a table downstairs, so everyone else just arrive as you are able.
I've reserved a room at Karaoke Boho near the Slaughtered Lamb (it's actually like, across the street from the bar) for 9:00. We'll have the room for about three hours, and the rate is $8/hour per person, so $24 per person for the whole time there. As it turns out the discount wasn't available to us. ( ) Drinks are available in the karaoke bar, but food isn't. We are allowed to bring food in, though, so if we decide to buy a couple of pizzas or something that's cool with them.
SO:
5:00 - 9:00 : The Slaughtered Lamb
9:00 - 12:00 : Karaoke Boho
12:00 - ? : Hell if I know, I plan on being drunk
I know some of you have my number, but for those that don't I'll send you PMs in a bit in case you need to get in touch with me and I don't have a computer handy.
oh definitely, i fuckin love the Slaughtered Lamb. you guys will have to get me trashed if you want me to sing at karaoke though. I feel my vocal skills are best used not-singing.
I have a bad habit of queueing up more songs than I realize if I am indeed trashed. So uh, if I do make it, sorry in advance. >_>
P.S. How do people usually locate each other at these things? Is there a code word?
PAers are extremely easy to pick out pf a crowd.
We're the ones everyone else in the crowd looks at with envy. Tonight, watch how everyone gives us an extremely wide berth and holds heir noses while near us, and obvious act of reverse snobbery at the perfectness they detect in each of us.
On an unrelated note, can I borrow someone's deordorant tonight? I'll give ir right back but I forgot to roll some under my tongue this morning.

I recommend the frying pan, because seriously, drinking coronas on an old boat is good times.

it's total bullshit
we're an AD AGENCY
what kind of a bullshit ad agency doesn't have summer fridays
also frying pan can get super absurdly crowded, just fyi, so i'd make some kind of a contingency plan if i were you

That should be fine. I'm hoping this will end up being a sort of all-night deal with people coming and going as it fits their schedules.

we might be able to get something smaller up, I'll let you know
But Tarranon is an incredibly chill dude who is also a blast to hang out with. You people at other stops better treat him right!
Oh, and know where to get postcards. That was a little hairy for a moment there.

Are you guys getting a table at The Slaughtered Lamb, or just hanging at the bar? Or are you gonna play it by ear?
Oh and all you people with "summer Fridays"? I hate you. In...a nice way, of course.
edit: Nevermind, I just saw that you are going to try to get a table downstairs at The Slaughtered Lamb.

However, if you see people not wearing cat ears, the code word is "Im here for the gangbang"

Armpit brush? I thought it was s scrotum scratcher.
I have it with me right now but you should wash all the, um, dandruff out of it before using it.
