Did they ever patch the Conrad is always renegade-d bug on the 360? That was something that always niggled me.

I think it was a problem with the way ME1 saved the outcome, so patching ME2 wouldn't do the trick.
Theoretically they could patch ME1, but it looks like they've just let it go now.
There are ways to edit 360 saves though, aren't there?

debating whether the genophage is necessary or not misses the point. some kind of population control is unquestionably necessary, and the krogan already proved they can't do it themselves.

the issue here is how the krogan are going to survive when they can't breed 1000 kids a second to justify their murder rate. Okeer is the smartest krogan because he had the best idea: build stronger krogan, not more of them.

The krogan managed to have more than one nuclear war. That doesn't put them very high on the "overcoming aggression" spectrum.

The krogan also were becoming resistant to the genophage, which is why Mordin had had to return and implement a corrected version.

Although I'm wondering where the leadership went. Apparently they were doing well enough taking worlds and killing everything so that the citadel races felt endangered, yet their general culture seems centered around tribal factionalism. It really doesn't make sense that they would cooperate enough to start conquering the galaxy (if there was some sort of ultimate krogan leader they could just assassinate him/her and as the genophage without mucking with evolution/individuals' rights/extinction threats/etc.).

The only thing I recall in-game is Shiagur ...and she only gained prominence because of the genophage and her fertility.

    Yeah, they are mostly tribal.

But when you breed like they do, you get VERY large tribes.

For those that think the genophage was a knee jerk overreaction, have none of you read the codex entries on the Krogan rebellion? After uplifting by the Salarians and the victory over the Rachni, the Korgan were given TONS of planets to colonize. The problem was, with the advent of all of that advanced tech they were given, they quickly overpopulated these new planets. They decided to simply invade other populated worlds.

Ultimately the Turians were called on to fight. The Krogan began using asteroid orbital bombardment on Turian worlds, killed BILLIONS and made the worlds uninhabitable. The Turians basically said "Fuck these guys" and deployed the genophage (which the Salarians developed but never intended to use).

At the end of the day, I certainly don't give ANY sympathy for the Krogan plight by way of the genophage. They were big assholes and were becoming as big a plague as the Rachni. Do I feel like supporting Wrex in trying to change them? Yes.

I don't understand why the genophage has to be so drastic. 1 out of 1000? Why not 1 out of 100? Why didn't they just make the genophage give the Krogan, say, human levels of population growth?

1 to 1000 is normal Krogan population growth, their pre industrial birth rate.

The modern Krogan are just whiners because they want to fight everyone and are shocked when they lose more Krogan than are born.

Well...that 1 out of 1000 doesn't mean much if we don't know Krogan birth rates/children per pregnancy.

I remember Wreav saying he was born in the same something as Wrex. So I'm guessing Krogan reproduce rapidly and in great numbers.

Like machine said, the reason Krogan are dying out is because they're still as violent and self-destructive but they don't have the numbers to compensate for it.

I wonder why no race tried to give the cure to a small clan of Krogan in exchange for their allegiance. As violent as they are, I'm sure even they can recognize the value of having a powerful ally.

    A. It's illegal
    B. Curing the genophage is probably no easy task.
    C. What's to stop a repeat of past events from happening once their population explodes again?

Just do what I suggested. You give that clan normal levels of population growth (or slightly higher to account for their violence) for a humanoid species.

I doubt there is a "census" of the Krogan population, so it's not like the other species will know, if you're smart about how you use them.

Exactly. Mordin says that considering the longevity of a Krogan (what, over 1,000 years?) and their durability (almost impossible to kill naturally), they needed to reduce the birthrate significantly. The problem the Korgan have is that they fight so much.

it's like if you give a kid legos and he makes a sword and hits people with it. then you take away some of his legos so he can build other stuff, but not a sword. now he screams and hits people with his hands and demands all of the legos back. you would want the kid to work out his issues and regulate his own lego use before he starts being irresponsible with legos again.

This right here. Diplomacy was tried, and the Krogan ambassador basically laughed at the council.

    http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Krogan_Rebellions

"The causes of the Rebellions stemmed from concessions the Citadel Council made to the krogan in gratitude for their service in the Rachni Wars. The krogan were given the conquered rachni planets along with several pristine, habitable worlds. However, due to the harsh conditions of their homeworld Tuchanka, krogan birth rates were quite high in order to sustain their numbers. When they spread to other planets, their naturally swift breeding cycle and lack of sufficient predators resulted in the krogan spreading throughout the galaxy like a plague.

The Council became concerned as the krogan began to annex territory from other Citadel races. The krogan became more aggressive as other races tried to protect their worlds, until the krogan attempted to settle the asari colony of Lusia. When told by the Council to leave, the krogan refused. Their representative, Overlord Kredak, stormed out of the Council chambers, daring them to take their worlds back. War broke out afterward."

The issue here is that the entire species of Krogan was punished because of what the warlords at the front did. This is why it is so sad to come across that random Krogan who laments his lack of family because you know that he and everyone like him suffer through piles of stillborn babies because of a war he might have not even been involved in

Well, that's the thing about the Mass Effect universe in general, most of the major conflicts don't have any completely right or wrong answer.

I mean, you could argue that the Krogan shouldn't have been uplifted in the first place and that's where the problem lies.

But by doing so you stopped an invasion of sentient deathbots and their bug slaves that would have eradicated all life, including the Krogan.

So...I mean, I do feel pity but I also understand why it was necessary.

Also, everyone should remember that every Krogan alive today would have been considered clinically insane and locked up in a psychiatric facility for treatment before their nuclear wars. The blood rage was something that affected .5% of their population, but after the nuclear war it affected their entire species.

I always thought the post-apocalypticness of Tuchanka was incredibly fascinating and not explored enough in the games. like instead of the aliens in Fallout being hostile, they give you a bunch of shit in return for fighting some bugs and now you have to adjust to it all

Drell have a similar situation, but because they are not a completely awful species they can adjust to it

what exactly triggers me being able to activate the geth i got from that mission?

    - the ability to now enter and go through the omega 4 relay and begin the suicide mission
    or
    - a certain amount of time that must pass in between getting the geth and being able to activate him meaning that if i did the acquire reaper iff mission earlier than i couldve had him on my team ages ago
