POKEMON NETBATTLE!

Yes, it's Pokemon, POKEMON, and MORE POKEMON!

Have you always wanted to battle lots of people with your built-up team of level 100's only to have very few, if any, battles at all because there wasn't enough people in your area that also played Pokemon as much as you? Well, here's your second chance! Build any team, even your exact one that you have, and take them into battle against anyone as dedicated as you within minutes....maybe seconds!

All you have to do is download Pokemon NetBattle, and the info for it all is below.

Here's the main site, full of lots of information for all the hardcore Pokemaniacs out there. It's insane just how much detail they've put into studying what works, what doesn't, and how it works. :science:
http://www.smogon.com/

And here's where you can download NetBattle.
http://www.smogon.com/netbattle/download

Is this your first time using NetBattle? You'll want to check this link out.
http://www.smogon.com/netbattle/tutorial

The smogon server is almost always the most populated one, so that's where to go to get a battle or two fairly quickly Be warned though, they'll definitely trash talk because they know their sh*t when it comes to Pokemon. Don't provoke them, and you'll be fine.

If you have any trouble connecting to the smogon server, manually enter it in by typing nb.smogon.com when opted to do so after failing to connect automatcially.

That is, unless someone will graciously host a server just for us, though I have no idea how to do that stuff.

Now then.....LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!

Maybe you should have added a [Game ON!] Tag to this thread. I haven't played pokemon since Red, Blue, and Yellow. Those were the days, ah man.

It's Pokémon! It's the internet! It's Pokémon and the Internet! It's Pokémon Net Battle!

I may have to give this a go. I have an over-abundance of free time and I'm happy to try anything that will slow the inevitable process of me melting into a rich creamy soup out of boredom.

People who have only played Pokemon on their carts and never against another human opponent might want to check some of Smogon's guides. Netbattle is highly competitive, and chances are you are going to get your ass kicked if you run across an average player.

Learn how to mute people because they are a great deal of immature pricks on there, but other than that, it's great fun.

    Alright, I'll try this out.
However, I'd much rather play with just PA people than the random jackasses who usually stalk netbattle.

It looks interesting, but I've been out of Pokemon since Gold/Silver. It feels overwhelming to jump back in now, with so many changes and additions that were put in the more recent versions.

Perhaps we should aim to make this a [Game On]. Like BahamutZERO said, I'd be more comfortable playing with PA.

I stopped playing Netbattle after the third time some asshat wanted to battle with "NO UBERS NO BLISSEY NO WOBBUFFET" and, once I started playing him, his team went something like

    Kyogre
    Grouden
    Blissey
    Wobbuffet
    Mewtwo
    Deoxys

Netbattle is a good idea, but man, fuck its playerbase

I guess it should be noted that you can still have RBY and GSC battles if you want to. Most people there are going to be playing RSE, but if you change your name to "Cloggerdude_RBY" or something, you'll usually have a few takers, mostly from the older battlers. That means you're probably going to lose, but hey, it's great fun anyway.

When you make your team, go up to the "Version" drop down and select which generation you want to build a team for.
ie: For RBY, you would choose "True RBY"

Once selecting your generation, it will automatically limit you to pokemon and moves from that particular generation. Easy stuff once you get used to it.

It should be noted though that strategies that are common in Netbattle aren't as effective in the actual games.

Netbattle lets you have "perfect" Pokemon, something that is near impossible to get in the game. To have even one would take who knows how much breeding and work, let alone a team of them. =o And then to train them.. <<;; Yeah.

So don't think that Netbattle is just as good as actual battling, personally I'm going to go to D/P for my online Pokebattle needs once it comes out.

I would be down with playing with some of PA people. You guys are infinately cooler than the majority of Netbattle. I think someone in the Pokemon thread even hosted a server. That would be ideal.

I have about 4 years of competitive battling in and would happy to help anyone new out. Be forewarned, pokemon is more complicated than you might think. but you can get basics down fairly quick.

I been on hiatus for awhile, and wasn't planning on get back into until DP, but this get me back into the flow.

It's true that it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get a "perfect" pokemon in the real game, but it's honestly not that hard at all to get one close to perfect. Getting the right nature is a breeze on Emerald. Cross-breeding for maybe an hour usually gives a bunch of pokemon with very good stats.

I personally don't mind training them up, either, but then again my pokemon are all infected with PokeRus.

Anyway, NetBattle. I'm up for some games.

We really need to get a server up, I'd do it, but every time I try nobody can connect to it.

So, anyone up for a battle?

That reminds me, does anyone remember that one time that group of players had a vendetta against for some reason; and they kept on crashing us until we realized they where the cause and then we patched up and they got really frustrated? The best part of the was how one of them tried to convince us into letting him be an administrator.

Yeah, I actually only use "UU" pokemon, or underused ones. As in, pokemon that are usable, but not great. I can actually do quite well with them, and have beaten all-legendary teams before, but it isn't easy.

Anyway, I'm sitting around in smogon now if anyone is on.

My Slowking isn't, but nobody knows what its going to do unless they've seen it before. Suprise counts for a lot in UU. Still, I switch that guy with other pokemon fairly often.

Wait, is using Wobbuffet considered cheap? I stopped this Pokemon stuff at Silver and never really bothered with Wobbuffet, but I made one on Netbattle. I only picked it because it was cute looking (They remind me of Meekins from Phoenix Wright), but if they're considered cheap I can always switch out.

I refuse to believe this died so quickly.

I think Wobbuffet is only cheap because of Shadow Tag, in combination with how it battles. Besides, I distinctly remember Nintendo advertising Pokemon tournaments at its New York Pokemon Center (before it became Nintendo World) you could use Wobbuffet if it didn't have Leftovers. Heck this was when there was just Ruby and Sapphire. So I wonder if Wobby is widely considered an uber, or if it's because Smogon considers them uber, which slowly trickled down to becoming everyone thinks it's an uber.

The Pokemon Center also allowed any legendary aside from a handful (Kyogre, Groudon, etc.), so their opinions regarding high level balance are irrelevant.

Well, yeah, legendaries, but not ubers. They also didn't allow Lati@s with Soul Dew, nor would they allow moves that would have been legal once the other Advance games came out until those games came out.
