Aparently Anonymous has laid siege to Orlando, Florida. Hacking tourism websites, the mayor's campaign page, and promising to hack a different site everyday.

I guess they're annoyed at the arrests being made because volunteer groups are getting arrested for feeding homeless people in the city parks. A somewhat noble endeavor, but it doesn't really sound like something Anon would do.

... that's exactly what Anonymous would do. And those arrests are fucking ridiculous. Fuck Orlando.

I do think the arrests are dumb, and I also had misconceptions about Anon I guess. Maybe they all aren't just immature children being jerks. Radio guy just now had a man claiming to be part of Anon (his voice was all masked) there's no way to validate his claim, but he sounded intelligent, well spoken, and like a nice dude... its like my world view has been shattered.

Yasumi Matsuno (Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII) joins Level-5 as a game designer.
Hino explained that it would be easy to ask Matsuno to make a new Tactics Ogre or Vagrant Story, but this would just be a repeat of past titles. Instead, he wants to unearth the potential of people with talent by having them challenge things they've yet to do.

Matsuno closed off the interview with some words that fans should appreciate. The feeling with which he's working on this new game is akin to the feeling he had when making Ogre Battle on the Super Famciom, where he was told it was okay to make whatever he wants.

Yeah. It's like I've said before, Anonymous acts against morally-bankrupt people / organizations. Lulzsec just kinda does whatever. I don't know how people ignore the distinction. Ignorance I guess. Life isn't black and white.

"We were really blown away by the unique innovation that Nintendo brings with the Wii U controller on a high performance machine," Gibeau told GamesIndustry.biz in the interview. "The ability to do HD graphics and access game experiences in a completely novel way and a way that's never been seen before, it really struck our fancy.
"We were excited by what Nintendo presented to us, we thought about it and it fits well with what we're trying to do with our franchises like FIFA and Madden and Battlefield," Gibeau continued.

I hope this is a good sign.

Y'know, I've kinda come down by my E3-high, and I can look at the WiiU a little more objectively; the 3rd party devs saying how interested they are doesn't mean they're gonna step-up to the task when it's time to. Some did the same for the Wii and it just kinda... fell flat. Not as flat as people say, I think (I'm not THAT critical).

The problem is that Anonymous isn't a group. It's... anonymous. Just a bunch of random unnamed people acting as a group. In any attack/protest/whatever, there's going to be a mix of dumb twats, intelligent and reasonable people, and any number inbetween. Anyone that claims to speak for anonymous as a whole is usually full of shit and just getting their five minutes of fame.

At worse, I think it'll pretty much get the same titles as the 360/PS3 with a pause menu, map, or inventory screen being moved to the controller screen. Some will make magic happen, but yes, I believe devs wont necessarily bring their A-game.

Sort of. But all you had to do is get by a save point and spam Orphan McSuperboys dust devil attack over and over in fights until you over level the place and then just waltz through. Otherwise you'd get raped by lizardbugs. And there was so much in the game that just didn't matter at all to the game itself. And oh-so-grindy. I love grinding but RQ's grinding just didn't make sense. The bug trapping alone was enough to drive someone completely insane.

I remember rubber banding my controller to grind roses of some sort. I remember reading a book and looking up every now and then, bouncing with glee everytime I found a rose. Good times. Oh, and the crafting system was weird but oddly satisfying.

Looks like Kaz Hirai is moving on up in the world.
    SCEI ANNOUNCES NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM
Kazuo Hirai, Chairman, and Andrew House, President and Group CEO

Tokyo, June 29, 2011 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced the appointment of Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, as Chairman, and Andrew House, President, CEO and Co-COO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), as President and Group CEO of SCEI, effective September 1, 2011. The company also announced the retirement of Akira Sato, Chairman, effective August 31, 2011. It was also announced that as of June 28, Ken Kutaragi has retired from his role as Honorary Chairman of SCEI.*
House joined Sony Corporation in 1990, where he worked in corporate communications for five years. In April 1995, he was transferred to SCEI and assigned to the marketing and communications division, where he made a significant contribution in successfully launching the original PlayStation® computer entertainment system and its business during its early stages. In March 1996, House was promoted to Vice President, Marketing of Sony Computer Entertainment America, where he led SCEA’s efforts to establish the North American market for the original PlayStation as well as formulating and executing the market strategies which led to the successful launch of the PlayStation®2 and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) businesses. House was also instrumental in developing the PlayStation brand into a household name in North America. In addition to his marketing responsibilities, he also led the Third Party Relations from 2000, as well as Developer Support from 2003, making sizeable contributions in establishing and maintaining firm relationships with third party game developers and publishers in North America as well as growing content alliances.

Acknowledged for his invaluable contribution to the expansion of the PlayStation business and to the company’s marketing and brand management efforts, House was appointed CMO of Sony Corporation in 2005, with global responsibility for corporate marketing across all of Sony’s businesses with primary emphasis in building value in the Sony brand. During his tenure, House led the effort to establish Sony’s new group brand message, “make.believe”.

In May 2009, House was assigned a new role as President, CEO and Co-COO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), managing the PlayStation business across nearly 100 countries in the European/PAL territories, including the company’s PlayStation 2, PSP and PlayStation®3(PS3®) platforms as well as PlayStation®Network.

In his new capacity as President and Group CEO of the entire SCE Group, and working in close liaison with Hirai, SCEI Deputy President Kunimasa Suzuki, as well as business units and regional headquarters’ management teams, House will bring his strong leadership skills and experience to fulfill his responsibilities to reinforce and further accelerate the development of the PlayStation business including PlayStation®Vita, the next generation portable entertainment system, scheduled to launch starting holiday season 2011. Jim Ryan, Executive Vice President and Co-COO of SCEE will assume the role of President and CEO of SCEE as of September 1, 2011.

Sato joined SCEI in 1993 as one of the founding members. As Deputy President and COO, he made numerous contributions especially in building a new business model in the world of computer entertainment as well as in the area of game software development by discovering new talent and introducing a broad range and number of unique titles and franchises. Sato was instrumental in strengthening and consolidating SCE’s global development resources with the creation of SCE Worldwide Studios, building the deepest and most globally diverse development resource of any game platform holder. In November 2005, he stepped down from operating responsibilities, and after resuming his executive role as Vice Chairman in December 2006, and as Chairman from July 2009, he has worked tirelessly to help guide the entire SCE Group operation.

As Representative Corporate Executive Officer and Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation, and President of Consumer Products & Services Group (CPSG), Hirai will accelerate the implementation of a faster, stronger, and integrated strategy to create new user experience and generate added value by uniting hardware, content and network, both for the home and on the go, while further accelerating the development of the PlayStation® business in close collaboration with House.

Suzuki will remain in his current position as Deputy President, SCEI, and will assist House by playing an active role in further expanding the possibilities in the PlayStation business. Also as Corporate Executive, SVP, Sony Corporation, and Deputy President of CPSG, Suzuki will continue to vigorously promote Sony’s growth strategies particularly in the IT mobile domain.

House will strive to lead the PlayStation business to new heights, by fully leveraging the skills and expertise he has gained over the years in Japan, North America and in Europe. House, in cooperation with Hirai and Suzuki, will also contribute to further enhancing competitive strength and profitability of the Sony Group, through optimally allocating various assets ranging from technology to human resources, across Sony and SCE.

“In fiscal 2010, we achieved profitability for the first time in five years as a result of group-wide united efforts, including continuous cost reduction for PS3 in which I first took the initiative after assuming President of SCEI in December 2006,” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, SCEI. “We are facing new challenges this year, such as the successful launch of PlayStation Vita and further growth of PS3 platform as well as expansion of non-gaming business. I’m confident that the skills and expertise Andy has gained over two decades working for Sony and SCE Group will contribute enormously in leading the PlayStation business and to bring new initiatives in managing the business in the networked era.”

“SCE has benefitted tremendously from Sato-san in establishing the PlayStation brand as well as in expanding its businesses worldwide,” Hirai continued. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Sato-san for the countless contributions he has made to the PlayStation business and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”

“Since returning to SCE two years ago, I have focused on further expanding our business in the European/PAL territories and regaining our market leadership there. It is both an honour and a privilege to be named as President and Group CEO at SCEI. I believe there is huge potential for further growth of our business globally, and I’m looking forward to working with everyone in the SCE Group and with other groups in Sony to help achieve this potential by pursuing the creation of brand new user experiences.” said Andrew House, President and CEO and Co-COO of SCEE.

“It has been a wonderful experience with PlayStation since the company’s founding in 1993,” said Akira Sato, Chairman of SCEI. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the great support from third party game developers and publishers and particularly to the wonderful creators all over the world. Without the great content from a wide spectrum of genres made by third party game developers and publishers, as well as SCE Worldwide Studios, PlayStation would not be where it is now. I thank everyone for their continuous help in fulfilling PlayStation’s mission to deliver high quality entertainment experiences to users around the world.”

*Kutaragi will continue in his role as senior technology adviser of Sony Corporation.

Hm. Sounds like they're moving pieces into place so that Kaz can replace Howard Stringer. And Stringer probably isn't long for Sony, since his 3D strategy isn't working and the company as a whole is going "meh." Financially speaking.

    In other Sony news:
Sony has signed Barcelona-based developer Novarama, known for Invizimals, to an exclusivity deal.

This means that Reality Fighters - an augmented reality game shown at this year's E3 - will remain exclusive to the PSVita. After its release, the developer will also begin work on new titles for other Sony platforms.

"This strategic alliance with one of Europe's brightest developers, a developer with unrivalled experience of augmented reality games shows our determination to work with creative and innovative developers," said Michael Denny, Senior Vice President, SCE Worldwide Studios Europe.

"I am very excited about what Novarama have planned and look forward to being able to share it with everybody."

    Was Invisimals that good?

I think SP is a great game. Multi is a wreck tho. The grind is awful. All the missions don't matter since there's just 3 that will give you the best payout for the time involved.

I think SP is a great game. Multi is a wreck tho. The grind is awful. All the missions don't matter since there's just 3 that will give you the best payout for the time involved.

I got to a part in the SP that was basically a maze filled with large monsters that take 10-15 minutes to kill. So if you go the wrong way your punishment was to fight 10 of these monsters.

I'm sure you meant to say "refined".

And I can't say that WKC was good but I did enjoy it.

My lame attempt to get things back on track:
EA Sports is currently scouting locations for a new game development studio based in Austin, Texas.

This information comes courtesy of an internal company memo obtained by IGN. In the memo, COO Daryl Holt outlines EA Sports' plans for expanding its workforce for the future.

"We have aggressive plans for expansion, and I will be visiting Austin, Texas, this week to assess potential space for a new EA Sports studio location," said Holt. "Our goal is to attract, hire and retain the industry's best talent."

Holt went on to say EA Sports will continue to push its franchises into "innovative new directions" and is placing a top priority on investing in its current development talent. He continued saying the company sees opportunity with "connected, multi-platform development," likely referring to EA Sports' future plans of creating a unified, persistent online profile across all of its sports properties.

He also said EA Sports has "cemented a new development structure" and even addressed the departures of key Madden developers in the recent months saying, "With these departures comes a renewed focus on retention, but also a realization that these departures create new opportunities for our people at all levels within the studio."

EA Sports currently operates two studios based in North America: EA Canada in Burnaby, British Columbia, and EA Tiburon in Maitland, Fla.

Just looking at the media create numbers for this week, Steins;Gate sold a little over 60,000 units. Absolutely killer sales for a visual novel.
