Was St. Anger your first time being disappointed by Metallica? Just cus, ya know, the nineties did happen.
Yes I know, I was there. But St. Anger is the one album they wrote that was complete shit (Load and Re-Load are limp, but not as limp as St. Anger or Ilud Divinum Suckupuss).
Yes, yes it is. That's a band that so far has not disappointed me. I mean, I have albums I like more than others, but I think the only minor misstep is that perhaps Catch 22 should have been a Pain album instead. But I still liked it.
The discography for Cult of Luna has started over on the blog. A review for The Beyond just went up, which is really the point at which Cult of Luna became a band worth caring about. Unlike Isis this one will be much, much shorter, since CoL didn't feel the need to release a billion and a half EPs and live albums.
Looking good. I think I enjoyed reading the Cult of Luna reviews more than the Isis, so keep up the good work.
I'll throw up my ICS Vortex review tomorrow. Definitely some better material on there than the youtube vid we were hurling around a month or so ago, and naturally the audio sounds superior. Not going to be an end of year contender by a long shot, but was more than I had hoped for.

After the first song on the ICS Vertex release it definitely does get more interesting.

Haven't got a chance to listen yet, but the new CTTS EP is streaming here.
Beat me to it! I don't really wanna listen to it till I have a lyric sheet though...
Just bought it last night. It's the least I can do for a band that's provided me many years of enjoyment from a relatively short full length release. I'll withhold my thoughts until more people have heard it.

I was about to give it a listen today before bumping into a friend who asked me to write about Irish metal for the college paper. I can't think of a more thankless job (Since there aren't really people into metal in my college at all outside of BMTH and other such shit) but shilling something like Primordials 20th Anniversary Show or Dublin Doom Day could be a bit of fun.

what the hell is going on with that hot girl's shoulders is she a decepticon
edit: that's kelly osbourne? what the fuck is happening here.
She (and her brother) lost a ton of weight and look like normal people now instead of massive blobs. Kelly does a bunch of runway/fashion show stuff now
A burl (American English) or bur or burr (British English) is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds.
huh, also the song is ok

I enjoy it, but I said it before, it's a departure. It's like Crack the Skye Lite. It's almost like their Black Album, from what we've heard of the album so far at least.
I still can't wait to hear the rest of it, it's just interesting the direction they're kinda taking things.
One of my favorite things about Mastodon is the drumming, so I haven't gotten much out of the new stuff yet. I'll still buy the album, because that's how I am, but I want to hear Brann tear shit up.
Kinda like this (fast forward to 6:25 in case you don't know what I'm talking about):
Anyone else planning to catch the Kampfar and Vreid show rolling through the US? Going up to Cleveland on Monday for it. I will again be able to check off two bands I thought I'd never get to see from me "There is no way I'll ever get to see this band" list.

I am pretty annoyed that I was outta the country last time Mastodon were here, and I was too young for shows when they came here on Blood Mountain.
On an unrelated note, tickets for Alcest here are purchased. It's part of Dublin Doom Day so there's close to 10 bands playing, but Alcest are the only ones I actually care about. Count Raven were due to play but pulled out rather abruptly.
Review for the new Arkona is up. Didn't enjoy as much as the last, but they're still my favorite of the 'big budget' folk/pagan bands with female vocals. Of course, the Russo and Slavic languages make me quiver into jelly.
Something amazing coming Monday, perhaps the best old school Swedish death metal retread I've heard since Demonical and Repugnant, and a possible top 20 contender for the year.
@Adrenaline: I just also got the promo for the new Midnight Odyssey in my mail. Will listen to it in the coming week.

from fb:
Hour Of 13 instrumentalist Chad Davis will enter Epiphonic Studio from September 1 through September 4 to record the band's third full length album. Epiphonic Studio was responsible for Ho13's debut album, housed in an old Catholic church. More updates as information is received.

anybody know anything about the upcoming insomnium album?
Edit: Jesus, everything sounds fucking terrible on youtube, and I'm using great headphones... I wonder how much music I've written off now that I've heard how bad a song I'm familiar with sounds.
Thats because youtube audio downgraded by the aspect ratio on the vid. Your gonna get shitty sound unless its like 720p or 1080. Thats that programing bs they play.

There are a couple of YouTubevideos up of the guitar sessions. Sounds a lot like Insomnium. The first one had me nodding my head and the second is all acoustic, like sitting in a chair and staring out the window at the rain.

Hmm...
Does anyone actually care? I think it would be kinda cool. The other members (minus Bill Ward I guess) sounded great on the last Heaven & Hell album.

edit- Also that song is kinda lame
Did you check out his other project, The Crevices Below? That was quite good.
Lately I've been on a huge Absu binge. Can't get enough and I can't wait for their new album.

There's a new Enslaved EP coming out today, limited edition with just 2 songs.
Speaking of it, I couldn't get into that one, only Down with the Sun and When the Last Wave Broke really excited me. So I'm hoping I enjoy this more.
