Out of curiosity, if I'm Michigander who's been living in Wisconsin since August and will be back in Michigan by the end of this week, can I sign a petition? I had a one-semester contract to teach English, and the only petitions I've seen so far were on campus; we got an email advising us to limit our recall activities to off campus, so I figured I'd play it safe. I wasn't sure, too, if I was allowed to sign, since I barely live here.
But I'd love to help, not only because Walker's awful, but also in the hope that it'll give Rick Snyder pause. Unlikely, but there's always hope.

Since you aren't voting in Wisconsin, your signature is invalid. You can probably help with a drive, but you can't sign.
As a Michigander interested in this, but who hasn't had the opportunity to be following it too closely, would someone please give me a tl;dr update? 700k is the amount needed for the recall?
You guys need to work on your own situation. Last I heard your governor was just selling whole towns to the highest bidder.
Some people are trying again for a recall there. Hopefully it won't end up like last time's semi-respectable failure, which took two-thirds of the time given to gather half of the signatures needed by law (and therefore more like forty percent of what they'd actually have needed).
I signed the petition over the weekend. In a bit of serendipity, the woman taking signatures was the same woman I met during the teacher's strike. We had another brief conversation and I thanked her for braving the cold, cold Wisconsin winds to do some good.
Well, it turns out that "Chris" is Chris Rebholz, aka the King of Infomercials. Chris made a name for himself, as well as a gazillion dollars, selling products almost exclusively made in China, to Americans via infomercials. Name a product you've seen sold on TV, and the odds was pretty good that it was one of Rebholz's Tristar products.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with infomercials, but the reality is that Wisconsin is hemorrhaging manufacturing jobs almost exclusively to China. And when customers buy from a TV ad or online, it also requires fewer jobs to get that product to the customer because there is no store and the jobs that go with a store.
In other words, if you were going to set up a business model with the fewest American jobs possible, it would be Chris Rebholz's business model. That's the guy... that Scott Walker chose to promote his job creation efforts.

Been out of state since May, glad to see the recall effort is going so well. I'll be volunteering within days of my return to Wisconsin in 2 weeks, and can't wait to defenestrate King Walker.
Probably because he knows his father said "we gotta do something because I'm gonna get fired, they'll believe it if we do it, even if I don't really mean anything I say."
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
Gather round for a little story about fraud prevention and state aid, and some mild ranting.
I just spent 5 hours on the phone talking to 4 different case workers to get my food stamps going again because of Walker's stricter requirements for aid. Basically I get half my pay through work study (which in of itself is supposed to be enough to approve you for some aid), and half on the college's payroll. This apparently complicates things because they have a very strick rigid set of criteria now
I'm going to get my $6 a day for this month and then back to $1.75 or whatever when I resume working next semester, but for fuck's sake. I have at least one more phone interview, how much has the state spent proving information that the federal government already verified for them. Keep in mind I've had a case with them for 2 years, the only thing that changes is how much I'm making month to month, and it's never been a problem. Furthermore after doing all the online paperwork and paper paperwork and faxing I'm going to have to go talk to someone in person, because as an anti-fraud measure (I guess?) unless you can provide a good reason (that they may or may not look into) you have to have an in person interview - this isn't in anyway going to lead to certain people getting fucked I'm sure and has to be saving the state money right?
I wonder if Walker is a microcosm for the nation as a whole if Republicans take the white house. Low taxes, high unemployment, and spending a fortune in state resources to stamp out a near nonexistent level of fraud (because if I was lying about my not-employed status for the 3/4 of this month, they'd know because I pay taxes, and their computers show that!)
Edit: rereading that I should clarify: I am not upset about having to spend the time to do it. Not at all, right now I've got lots of free time (I mean I stand around on street corners and gather petitions). I'm upset that state resources are being wasted to double verify already verified information - I probably wasted a hundred dollars of the state's money talking to agents today, which is far more aid than i get in a month (except for the month between semesters). I'm not upset about having to make the trip up there, I'm upset the state is literally reversing course on putting everything online (which saves a great deal of money). I'm upset that our governor would spend $2 to stop $1 of fraud, when there wasn't even a dollar of fraud to begin with.
I'm just a bit absolutely livid about some of that shit. Requiring everyone who can't prove why not to show up in person sounds like a stealth "fuck you black people" measure to me and has to be more expensive than phone interviews for Wisconsin.
No prob for me because I have a car and work 3 minutes from an office - but what about the people in Milwaukee? The $35 a month is helpful to me, the $200 a month is life or death for some people up there. The stricter new requirements - what about a minimum wage worker whos boss wants to fuck them by refusing to sign their paperwork unless certain conditions are met? The whole thing smells rotten to me.
Walker can't be gone soon enough. I'm turning in my current batch of petitions to the local democratic office tomorrow, I have over a hundred of them.
Gotta love him volunteering in a soup kitchen, doling out soup to those he has put out of work. Merry Fucking Christmas. Can't get rid of this shithead fast enough.
Oh them lulz.
My God man, at least learn enough of YouTube's interface to disable comments & ratings on your propaganda video.
Or don't, I guess. It's always funny to see a video with a blaring red approval rating.
The ruling by Waukesha County Circuit Judge J. Mac Davis came in a case filed Dec. 15 by Walker's campaign committee and Stephan Thompson, executive director of the state Republican Party, asking Davis to order the accountability board to seek out and eliminate duplicate and fictitious signatures and illegible addresses in recall petitions.
...
In court, Kennedy testified that entering signatures into a database to look for duplicates could take eight extra weeks for his staff, and could cost $94,000 for software and outside help.
I live in Wisconsin, and I can vote. I haven't really been following this all that closely though.
So what's half the state so mad about? Is it just the loss of collective bargaining?
He cut education by 30%, then when the state budget turned out to not be nearly as dire as he said it was, he gave all the excess money to out of state banks, also yes collective bargaining, the unions agreed to every single budget cut that was asked of them, and he still made collective bargaining his personal hobby horse.
I was pretty sure we were going to either recall him or he'd simply alter the law so that he was unable to be recalled, or pay off a judge. Seems the second thing happened. A lot of my signatures are from elderly people who dont have the best handwriting and I cannot write it for them. I mean, potentially a third of my signatures could be thrown out and these were by real people. Fuck i should have gotten a picture of each person signing
Edit: he also approved dumping waste by his financial butt buddies the Kochs into lake Michigan, probably in violation of international treaties, if I'm remembering right

Well, right now he's trying the second option. And, you'll note, making it so that even if he is recalled, he's trying to squeeze every last second he can out of his term.

I have a new soccer blog The Minnow Tank. Reading it psychically kicks Sepp Blatter in the bean bag.
the main problem is that there isn't a solid candidate outside of feingold (who's already said he wouldn't run) that the dems could put against him in the recall election. we're literally at the ???? phase:
1. whoops, that was a mistake
2. recall signatures
3. ????
4. profit!
the only problem with that is that walker could win if the newcomer doesn't have any kind of recognition or anything of the sort since wisconsin politics have become so divisive in the past two years.

Given the sheer outrage of the recallers and union supporters, I'm thinking a pet rock could beat walker.

Aside from the political troubles, it's a lovely state.

I'm not saying they are connected, but...
They're connected, alright. They're telling us to not get cocky. Which is why 700K is the new goal.
