Now I just need a house big enough to furnish with all the alchemy/blacksmith/enchanting bells and whistles
From the enchanting table, you need an item to disenchant and a soul gem to put the item in. It destroys the item, and you can use the filled soul gem to enchant a different item
Huh, the Rebellion quest line was a bit grindy and the ending could've used a beefier boss I suppose.
Then again, Ulfric carried a Steel Waraxe of Cowardice which is kinda fitting.
I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.
I came across a shout shrine in the middle of nowhere. Figured it was just the same old same old sort of deal. Theres a dragon there, pretty typical stuff. But during the fight, he just suddenly out of nowhere slams into the ground and crashes into the shout shrine.
Holy shit. Took me by complete surprise. Well, I run up, kill him, and get ready to take my new shout. Well, the Lich that the dragon's crash has disturbed begs to differ. We exchange fireballs for about 5 minutes till he croaks. I run up to get the shrine and realize it has not one, not two, but three shouts.
The Lich's mask, which up to this point I had no idea were part of a set, gives me 20% better lockpicking, alchemy and archery. Now I've got to hunt down more Liches.
And if you collect them all, bring them to a certain spot to unlock an even bigger surprise.

uhhh, are you saying disenchanting items will fill soul gems
because that has not happened for me and i would like it to

Theres a huge house in solitude that I'm tempted to try and purchase.
I'm not sure how to get the ability to do so yet though.

shit
i'm going to have to find them all
They're Dragon Priests, not Liches by the way. So wherever there are shout words to be found, y'know...

That makes the ending to the Mage's Guild line kinda sad
Dude sacrifices all of his friends to hold a single Dragon Priest in stasis when there are like 12 of them out there or something.
I like that different materials have different benefits. It is not always just a straight upgrade. Also holy shit. I disenchanted my elven gloves of major smithing. Then enchanted that onto a blacksmith apron, a ring and a necklace, also gauntlets. That is 4 things at 17% improvement. I also had blacksmiths potion that increased smithing by 20%
So uh. My ebony bow does 52 damage vs the 25 unaltered, armor is at 104 vs 55, and my war axe does 73 versus the 32.
And that is before enchantments. Smithing and enchanting are insane
do you know how this smithing increase works? is it just equivalent to an increase in the smithing skill (so if you have 100 smithing it won't make that any better) or does it affect stuff no matter what? if it's the latter, that would mean to make truly endgame shit you're basically obligated to first acquire/create and put on a ton of +smithing gear no matter what, which is kind of tedious...
4 X Weapon Enchants and 4 X Armor Enchants. (Note I used the +32% self made Enchanting Potion to Power the Enchants... if you don't do this, your results will be 20%ish lower)
Full Daedric Armor: 2175 Armor
Daedric Bow: 562 Damage
Daedric Dagger: 171 Damage - Too bad one handed enchants don't work for daggers... I guess sneak attacking with fully enchanted swords is better.
Daedric Two Handed Sword: 605 Damage
Daedric One Handed Sword: 518 Damage
It is a % increase to how much better the improvements you do to the item is
like a potion would make any improvements 20% better than they would be normally for 30 seconds
wait, seriously? it's a %increase to your improvement strength *with no cap?*
let me get this straight, then. to make, say, an ebony war axe that does as much damage as it possibly could, just maxing on smithing isn't enough. i would have to: a) get enchanting to 80 b) put 5 points in the "increase enchantment power" perk c) get the "insightful enchanter" perk d) *create a maximized +smithing skill enchantment for every possible armor/jewelry slot* and put all these on and e) drink the strongest possible +blacksmith skill potion (maybe involves leveling alchemy, too? unsure) and *then* hit up the forge
if this is true that's... ridiculous. my supposedly perfect war axe could be probably be roughly 2.5x as good as it is?
edit nvm oh my god saw the link above. this shit is retarded. fuck. aaaaaa. i don't even know what to do now, that seems a little... out of reach. unless i want to put 5 bazillion hours into this
I'm using a mod that sharpens and adjusts other things. It really made the colors explode. Someone on another forum made a version that really did disable AA through it, because there's no need with the game supporting it already.
Check it out.
I don't know if I can go back to the way things were. The spells, weapon enchantments and dragon breath look spectacular with it on. And that's saying something considering how great they are to start with.
Hey the Daedric Mace of Balog Mol is pretty effin sweet once tarted up using my smithing kit! Anyone know how far you have up Smithing over 100 to improve daedric items twice? So far I can only upgrade them once.

They stop at legendary. I'm not sure what your skill has to be for that to happen. If your skill is high enough you'll only have to improve an item once to reach legendary.
I think what they mean by twice as much is that you can improve them to be twice as good. Not necessarily improve them two times.

With all my other stuff i could legendary it on the first try. Then I could improve them AGAIN. Still legendary, but i could further up the stats.
My game must be bugged, because once I get a new item to legendary it won't let me improve it again. I can select the item and hit the craft button and it will say my skill isn't high enough, but it's been at 100 for 15 levels now.
when i made this character my goal was to make armor and weapons about as good as i could get and kill shit with them, which i figured would be fun. discovering that the axe i thought was rad and about as good as it could get (pre-enchantments) is actually literally 1/50th as good as it could be is kind of depressing. and "fixing" that by min-maxing my heart out with those potions and shit would be grind-y and difficult to do, and, once i did it, the game would presumably be so easy as to not even be worth playing
i know it's irrational but in an rpg, where the defining feature/thingthatmakesitfun is character progression, realizing that your character has progressed roughly a centimeter compared to how far he could have gone is kind of depressing (for me, and obviously not for most people)

Also they stop at legendary, but you can go above legendary. I have the numbers written down somewhere for what they were at when they first hit legendary vs what they were when I had all the stuff on.
I think this plus some random enchanting is as far as I want to go with this. My guy is just an awesome blacksmith who likes enchanting his gear.
Redhead, you absolutely do not have to do any of this. You don't need go take up blacksmithing at all. I just happened to really enjoy doing that, and I had fun making them as good as I could. I mean there are a bunch of other things I could have done, but I did not want to because I don't need to and it would not have been fun for me.
Yeah I have just accidentally become something of a god. Magic users still give me a bit of trouble, but if I get in good and close, kablammmo. And all of this came about just by having fun.

I don't really get this at all. I am glad they put the option in for the people who want it. The elder scrolls aren't crazy character progression so much as do whatever you want games. You can put in as much or as little work in as you want to. This is not Disgaea, where you basically are expected to break the game. You just can if you want. I remember alchemy being super broken in morrowind. enchantments definitely were. I don't know if they still are.

sorry to blow your minds

It changes the stats of the item.

in fact, they probably expect you to get by without doing all that stuff
I just started doing dwarven gear, it's pretty nice
really like how they reward you with tangible shit for doing quests, since you don't really get xp exactly
Insanity
I just did that too! It was pretty awesome.
