I'm planning on getting an apartment when I move back stateside, is it cool to change locks on apartment doors and such or is that something that needs to be brought up with the management

probably gonna need to talk to management, though i think they change the locks when residents move out? or at least, they should

pretty much any kind of modification to a rental unit needs to be brought up with the property manager/owner.

So, I may or may not have a job offer in Atlanta.

I don't know if I want to move to Atlanta. I just moved two months ago (back in with my folks, regrettably).

    What is it like there?

Atlanta is pretty cool. There are lots of things going on in the warmer months and some decent food.

In the winter the locals hide indoors until the spring.

I've moved 4 times in the past 10 years. The first three moves were into apartments. The last time was in August, into a house. I'm going to try my hardest to ensure that I don't leave this place alive.

I think it would become less of an apartment and more of a DnD based cult, with magic powered by sweaty neckbeard orgies.

When I move I just light my old stuff on fire

Then buy all new stuff and have it delivered by attractive burly men into my new place

My feelings exactly. One thing to note, though, is that unlike my birthplace of Massachusetts and wherever it is in New England you come from the cold is accompanied by humidity. Yes, I know it sounds insane but there was 70% humidity today with a temperature of 37 degrees. Because of this whatever heat your body would otherwise be able to generate to ward off the chills gets sucked out of you unless you layer-up.

I never heeded the warnings and my first winter in Georgia was a breeze so I was entirely unprepared for the following year in Savannah where every day was damp as well as cold and I just didn't bring a warm-enough coat to withstand that.

Now, of course, I have my fleece-lined suede jacket and wool-lined boots if it ever gets too chilly.

Ye be warned. Luckily "winter" in the south is maybe 2-3 months before rapidly warming up again so it's not a huge deal.

Related to the thread: Tonight marks the 1 year anniversary of @VisionofClarity and I's last night at the old apartment in Boston before we packed the remaining stuff, clothes, cat and rabbit into her Volkswagon Golf and started our leisurely drive down the coast of this fine country.

Old dressers are worse than couches.
Of course the couch we have now is modular which means it can be broken down into extremely-easy-to-move pieces. In a pinch you can break it down small enough to cram into a hatchback with the seats folded-down.

They have an aquarium there where you can swim with whale sharks. What else do you need to know?

I've been sorting all the stuff I have at my parents house, finally moving out of here into a single room in my sister's house. Donated probably $1,000 worth of books to the local library yesterday because I just don't feel like moving them anymore. If I don't get one for Christmas I'm just going to buy myself a kindle, and as somebody who has moved entirely too often god bless Amazon for ereaders.

We also have a Medieval Times where we will bring you if you visit because the lady and I love hosting forumers and bringing them to get drunk and shout at knights and cheer for the bad guy.

I've moved three times with friends one time with movers.

Eventually you get so much stuff that there are just too many car trips you need to do and you need a removal vam the size of your house to save time.

I'm lucky that I have a god friend that has a box truck with a liftgate.

I'm unlucky because my other friends know I have a friend that has a box truck with a liftgate.

Does our yelling have to be period appropriate, or can I yell Ghostbusters quotes at them? Because gettin' real drunk and yelling Ghostbustery things at knights is something I've always wanted to do.

Hauling king-size mattresses up twisty staircases is never fun -- there's nothing to hold onto.

I think the next most-awkward thing we have is a solid oak table that we've been using as a TV stand. It's built out of oak that was leftover from being kitchen work surfaces and each plank is a good 6" thick. It weighs an absolute tonne, and is wide enough that you always catch your fingers on door frames.

The one about the fucking space hairdresser and the cowboy. He's got a tinfoil pal and a pedal bin

To be fair though, this is considered luxury living in Georgia. The only thing missing is the beat up Datsun in the front yard. The only thing not missing is teeth.
