Melgar runs around the corner to see what the next room held for the party.
Starting from B10 (where I originally had intended to move last turn), double move to B18 to see what I can see.

Handing his length of rope to the magical hand that had suddenly appeard next to him once again Jessup watched as it floated to the next pillar and knotted it off. The gnome began working his way over the muddy pit.

    Round 10/20!

With Jessup's decision to leave Laggard behind, the mage starts hopping along the platforms to catch up to the party that has almost completed their treck down the hallway. Bjorn and Koh-nunDah stop up next to a Portcullis barring entry into the Forge room, its bars still red and twisted from the explosion of fire that had ripped through the complex earlier. The warped iron might make it hard to pry open but it's sturdy enough to at least provide some cover from fire through whatever section you don't choose to open.

Peeking into the room itself you note the presence of a large, stone demon idol holding an iron bowl of burning oil standing on a pedestal in the centre of a pool of lava. Recent rivers of lava have spewed out of the north and south sides of the pool, creating something of a challenge of reaching the forge proper. A pair of coloums rest in front of the anvil while Mordai Vell stands behind it, flanked to one side by a genuflecting servant. Neither have noticed you as of yet, their attention paid towards the ritual still in progress.

Opening the portcullis requires a DC 22 Athletics check as a Move Action. If you leave a section of the portcullis open, that section will provide partial cover to melee and ranged attacks through it.

This time, Laggard's leg does more than twitch. Slowly Laggard comes to and collects his wits enough to remember where he is and what he was doing. Climbing to his feet and shaking his so vigourously that spittle flys out both ends Laggard is back in action!

"Thank ye Moradin! From bottom o' me heart an' from the bottom o' the next keg I tap!"

Screwing up his courage and frowning at his legs to remember thier failure the last time, Laggard pounds across the platform and leaps to the next! Landing with a thud besides Jessup.

As his ghostly hand flies to tie off his rope and prepare for his final climb Jessup hears a loud thud beside him. Turning he sees the armored and filth covered Laggard standing next to him. The small Gnome charges forward and wraps his arms around the dwarf's middle with a shout of joy.

"I thought your spirit had set off for the halls of Moradin my friend." Stepping back and looking down at the mud covering his robes he sighed. "When we return to Neverwinter perhaps we can leave this portion of our tale untold?"

He started to move across the rope with ease heartened by the sight of his revived friend.

    Round 12/20!

After spending what felt like an eternity prying at the warped, warm bars of the portcullis, Bjorn finally has enough of it and tears the metal from its foundations until it buckles. Notwithstanding the noise, the ritual within the room proceeds apace, either oblivious or unconcerned with the approaching adventurers.

Seeing the gate open, and targets in site Koh-nunDah roars and dashes through the gateway. Taking massive strides he easily vaults the lava and charges full on into his target. Koh-nunDah is unsure at first if his blow connected, until he sees a sickly palor wash over his face! "Come! If you not hurry I take all glory!"
Move: Running start jump moving to G16 then jumping towards G14=19 so the jump ends in G13.
Standard: Charge from G13 to I12 and use Howling Strike vs. AC on target in J12=32! Crit! normal damage maxed from crit is 23, crit dice is 7 regular, 6 necrotic for a total of 36 damage!
Minor: Prepare Ignore Pain if I take damage that would bloody me. (I gain that amount of damage as temp hp.)

    Round 12/20!

Crossing the field of flaming lava and laying into the cult Leader, Mordai Vell only grins as a pleased laugh escapes his lips, the echo of the sound booming throughout the room as it is followed by his commanding voice, "You wander in here as gnats picking at the long-dead corpse of that which you call your lives. The Ashmadai will rise, casting off the shackles of oppression that Thay binds us with, and consume Neverwinter in unending fire! I wield the power of a Primordial and you think to challenge me?!" He ends with a boom, the room shaking under the effects of both his short challenge and the ongoing ritual.

    Round 13/20!

Mordai Vell lets out a wheeze as the energy from Bjorn's longsword saps the life from him. He retaliates with a snarl, pointing his sceptre at Koh-nunDah and causing the man to immediately turn around and run toward the lava without question. All alone now with Bjorn, Vell smirks, "Maegara provides me with far more useful and productive tools to crush my enemies, you pitiful worm," his voice says as it booms throughout the room. The cult leader then backs up a step before weaving a fiery spell in the air. Immediately a group of molten chains emerge from the ground and painfully shackle Bjorn to the spot, preventing his legs from moving.

    ---

Bjorn & Koh-nunDah each take 3 Fire damage (2 resisted) for ending their turns adjacent to the Anvil. The anvil is also blocking terrain.

    Mordai Vell
Minor Action - Soul Burn (close burst 5, one creature) at Koh-nunDah, 1d20+11=15, Hit! vs Will. Koh-nunDah takes (2d8+5)/2=8 Fire & Psychic damage and is slid to G14.

As the chains root Bjorn in place, the dutiful servant of the fire lord that had been watching your progress from the other side of the anvil springs into action. He offers a genuflection toward Mordai which sets the leader's sceptre aflame before vaulting between the columns standing beside the anvil. His steps appear to leave red molten burn marks in their wake and as he reaches Bjorn, his scimitar slashes out, similarly engulfed in flame and setting the man's clothes on fire. Koh-nunDah grumbles a bit as he is annoyed that he cannot intercept these attacks after Mordai Vell compelled him elsewhere, but this grumbling is immediately dropped as a noise from behind him causes him to turn around. Just then, a fiery ball erupts from the statue in the northwest corner of the room and it is only Koh-nunDah's quick hearing that allows him to dive out of the way, causing the projectile to splash harmlessly into the gigantic Idol statue in the lava pit to the east.

Sceolan moves to the opening of the large room where his compatriots just ran in. Though Mordai Vell is not in sight, his servant is. Sceolan designates him his quarry and attempts to thwart his attacks with a well placed shot to the leg. However the firey stride of the servant proved fast enough to evade the arrow, which snapped in half as it harmlessly crashed into the anvil.

    Round 14/20!

"I'd much rather not and instead prefer if you dropped dead," Mordai Vell responds with a short, terse laugh at Koh-nunDah's challenge. His sceptre then points towards the defender and that searing, burning pain in his head flares up again and Koh-nunDah finds himself backing up five feet, letting the cult leader slip away behind the anvil to rest up against the pool of lava.

Meanwhile, bits of stone crack and fall to the ground from the hallway behind you as Jessup sends magical energy toward one of the mundane statues.

Melgar moves past his comrades and the anvil to confront Mordai Vell. The rogue's footwork becomes slightly fancier as he silently flails his weapon at Mordai Vell. The bugbear's swing is true, and the spiked chain crashes directly into the cultist's face with such force, the mage is knocked off his feet.

Seeking to press his advantage, Melgar swings again, but this time the chain crashes into the ground by the mage's prone body. Mordai knew that attacking Melgar would subject him to a swift and sharp retort from the bugbear's chain.
Move to M13 the long way around the anvil.
Minor: Activate Duelist Prowess Stance: Until the stance ends, each time an enemy hits or misses me, I can use the Duelist's Prowess Attack power against it.
    Standard: Topple Over vs Mordai Vell (22): 1d20+16 30 1d10+8 14

Morty takes 14 and gets knocked on his ass.

    Action Point: Clever Riposte vs Mordai Vell (22): 1d20+12+2 19 2d10+8+2d8+4+1 34

Until the end of the encounter, Mordai Vell takes 5 damage immediately after attacking me, and I can shift 1 square as an immediate reaction after such an attack.

I...have been rolling terribly. Sorry guys.

As Mordai is tripped up and falls to the floor, the Servant raises his scimitar up before slamming it into the anvil next to him, a loud gong rumbling throughout the area and causing Mordai Vell's sceptre to burst into flame once more. The servant then turns around and slashes at Bjorn only to find the man easily dodging his attack. With the chains still holding him, he figures he'll take the opportunity to cut-off Melgar by weaving through the pillars, risking Bjorn's counter-attack but knowing that even if he strikes he's unlikely to be able to follow him through the columns fast enough to catch up.

From the back another ball of flame shoots out from the trapped statue. Unfortunately, this time its aim is accurate and it sears the back of Bjorn as he strikes out at the re-positioning Servant, nearly dropping the adventurer to the ground in the process.

With Mordai laying prone Sceolan focuses on his quarry, the servant. He lines up a shot certain to cause excruciating pain on the servant. The shot lands, but not in the place it was supposed to. It wasn’t perfect, but at least it hit. Determined to take down the master’s servant, he focuses his energy on singling out the servant and landing another shot. However, this shot also misses it’s mark and lands in the lava just in front of the target. Sceolan curses loudly in frustration and inspects his longbow to see if his trusty weapon is damaged or otherwise faulty.
Standard: Excruciating Shot vs Servant of the Fire Lord: 1d20+10 = 13 = Miss!
Damage (Missing still does half damage): Excrutiating Shot: (3d10+1d8+9)/2 = 16 damage
    Spend Action Point

Spitting out blood from the most recent blow, for a brief moment Mordai Vell's resolve falters. That moment then turns into rage as his entire body bursts into flame, a fireball exploding in the area south of the anvil and catching both Melgar and Koh-nunDah within it. As the fire clears, they both realize that Mordai Vell has teleported across the river of lava in front of him, still laying on the ground in a heap catching his breath. He then glares at Koh-nunDah in angry defiance, "Your soul will burn for eternity for your insolence once my ritual is complete. Take a bath," he finishes his retort with, a statement utterly incomprehensible to everyone but Koh-nunDah at the time. But for him, he inexplicably feels his feet taking him into the large pool of lava in front of the statue. Willing with all his might to make them stop moving, his body finally gives out, collapsing to the ground mere inches from the deadly magma.

    ---

Free Action (on first being bloodied) - Servant's Escape: Mordai Vell teleports to N17. Melgar takes 10 Fire damage while Koh-nunDah absorbs 8 damage. He then uses Soul Burn at Koh-nunDah, 1d20+11-2=23, Hit! vs Will. Koh-nunDah takes 2d8+5=9 Fire & Psychic damage (5 absorbed) and is slid to L15.

Koh-nunDah Saving Throw vs Forced into Lava, 1d20=11, Success!. Koh-nunDah falls prone in M14.
