The only ska band I ever really got into was Reel Big Fish
Because they had many songs that were more guitar-heavy than the other ska bands that were hip at the time, and I liked that
Although it's entirely possible that there are other, lesser-known ska bands that are equally guitar riff-tastic, I just never really cared enough to find out.
I think the best live show I've ever been to is Gwar. The second best was a 6 hour Reel Big Fish/Catch 22 show with 3 other opening acts. It was pretty amazing, and just kept going.
Also, how about mariachi? Can we talk about mariachi here?
Also: something something The Mighty Mighty Skastones.
oh uh
They have nothing to do with ska or anything (though I do like ska because I have bad tastes), but are more based on my love of co-opting the traditional music of black people and listening to soft-spoken hipsters.
Seasick Steve I found out about watching Rob Brydon's BBC talk show on youtube
Speaking of which. The Bosstones have a new album out. The Magic of Youth, it's danged good. Their last album, Pin Points and Gin Joints, was spectacular.
My favorite thing about ska is that nothing else is as fun to play.
It's bouncy, fast, easygoing (both to play and to coordinate. A few simple loops with easy cues), there are a whole bunch of you but not too many. Playing solos is fun too.
In fact I think it's a rule, you're not a proper ska band until you've turned something into a ska cover.

It's too bad Catch 22 broke up after Keasbey Nights
Not true, Catch 22 released 4 albums after Keasbey Nights. They're ok, not really breaking any new ground.
Of course, for the creative sound and feel of Keasbey Nights, you need Streetlight Manifesto/Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution.
Edit: Unless this is like how there are only 5 Rocky movies, counting Rocky Balboa. I have run into that misconception about Catch-22 before, though.
Cos on

No there's only one Catch 22 album
They broke up after Tomas and the other guy left because they knew nothing else would be as good as Keasbey Nights (it's three albums and a live album, anyway)
If you like Seasick Steve, you might like CW Stoneking.
He's an Australian Dude who grew up in an Aboriginal Community and he plays really amazing 20s and 30s style down home blues. He's a weird dude and his live show is one of the best I've ever seen. It's almost like he's playing a character, but it seems so genuine.

Coming this Fall to CBS, the oddest couple you'll ever meet!
Wow, That is really awful. Did they even listen back to that after they recorded it?

Arrogant Sons of Bitches are doing a show together after being broken up for like three years
And I'm totally fucking going
I can barely process this over the sound of the blood rushing to my dick
I did a ska show on the radio for 3.5 years; I think I burnt myself out on everything except Tomas Kalnoky.

I think Ska will live as long as the public school systems cultivate band nerds.

Also, it's not that hard to find vocalists.
