Almost seven years for me. I agree with The Geek in realising that SE plus plus has been a very formative presence on me, especially during my most active years of '06 to '08.
Because of this board, I have spoken to the kinds of exciting, exhilerating and "liberating" people that I would've thought I would never find in person. I suppose the luxury of written text in posts means one can carefully construct any self image as one pleases.
I have found that Social Entropy as a community has always had that subtle sway to get a poster to bring their most interesting side the front!
With that, I think there are fewer social masks, not more with the anonymity of a handle. Certainly on this board, at least. It taught me how to pry the "essence" out of many I have met since, because I saw "Wow, people are really cool here! They show what they really want others to see in them. Why don't I see this stuff in "Real Life"? It must be there, i'm going to find it!"
I would not have made the friends that I have, friends who have no connection whatsoever to SE, without that little social entropy dent in me.
My profile says 2006, but I've been around much longer than that. Twice, alpha had to recreate my account (when the forum xfers occurred) due to the tilde over the n in my name. As far as my original registration date goes, I'd wager I'm in the top 20 of oldest accounts.
Fortunately for all of you, I post very infrequently.
