To steal from the film’s director during his post-SXSW screening Q&A, Bobcat Goldthwait’s God Bless America is a violent film about kindness. Because unlike other, lesser films to which this one will undoubtedly be compared — the likes of Kevin Smith’s Red State or (gasp) Uwe Boll’s Rampage – the violence is easily overshadowed by the simple, elemental philosophy behind Frank’s spree: he only kills those who deserve to die.
you heard it here folks!
a high school girl deserves to die
fans of a tv show deserve to die
a dude capturing evidence of Frank's 4 murders deserves to die!
I've heard that the first Saw movie maybe has a decent message, maybe?
No it wasn't about it having a message. Even in the first one the justification for putting his victims through that was super shallow (the doctor was kind of a jerk and the photograph photographed people without their consent for private investigation purposes).
Saw 1 was okay because it was a decent mystery and the twist at the end was genuinely amazing. Also there's only really one scene of gore and they don't show that much of it. It was tense and scary and unexpected and at the time fairly unique.
Then the sequels just iterated on all the worst things.
really bad acting, kind of a dumb hyper-serious script but the gore ain't the thing and it's actually pretty intriguing
after that it goes right in the fucking toilet though

In press throughout this film’s tour from its premiere at Toronto last year to this re-cut premiere at SXSW, Goldthwait has at times referenced Peter Finch’s speech at the end of Network as an inspiration. With God Bless America, he’s created the feature-length manifestation of Finch’s rant.
i've never seen Network but i'm pretty sure people here have said that this character/rant is grossly misinterpreted

Well, he was talking on his cellphone during the movie.
Surely that gets him a place on the list, right?

if I could lock up everyone who ever enjoyed the saw films I would
not even joking
It's great that you enjoy patting yourselves on the back so much, but can you wind back the hyperbole a notch or two?
I would if I was being hyperbolic????
Do you even get that you are doing the same thing as the character in this movie? "You like/do this = you are automatically the worst person ever"
I don't even know where to begin
I don't get it. Are you doing a thing, or do you genuinely believe that people who enjoyed Saw deserve to be locked up in jail?
you fail to see a delineation between believing people should be killed for high-fiving and talking during movies versus thinking that people who enjoy watching murder porn should be kept away from society so essentially fuck you

Nah, you pretty much are being a silly goose here. The two things are similar in that it is a dumb uneccesary exaggerated response to something that doesn't deserve it.
As if enjoying some dumb movie makes you a danger to society.
Reality TV stars? The Westboro Baptist Church? American Idol contestants?
These people aren't the downfall of America, they're just annoying, and they're more byproduct than cause. Make a movie about hunting the real monsters in this country, then I'll be impressed.
If even one of them got killed in a movie, I don't think that would go past the censors.

All right the timey-wimey in this thread is getting stupid.
There's a bunch of threads with tachyon-related problems. Kinda weird that even with completely different software, running on completely different servers, the same old problems are popping back up.

Man I was hoping this would at least be a clever parody or, like Solar also hoped, would at least subvert the entire thing and make people who sympathise as well as relate to the main character feel awful.
Disappointed it does and is neither of these things.
What really gets me is that by portraying it as a "fuck yea this is awesome" thing, I can totally see some people taking this as inspiration to actually go out and shoot somebody.

oh cool thanks internet guy
No it seems like this guy had it right. You guys are both being pretty silly.
It is insane to actually think that people who liked a shitty movie should be locked up. You do not know their reasons for liking it. They might just think it is stupid fun, and not actually think anybody should be murdered.
Unless, of course, you are just doing "a thing"
Granted, I think this movie is a piece of shit that nobody needs to see, but that isn't really my call to make.

Exactly.
We should totally ban everything remotely objectionable because of people like me who mimic everything we see.
It's a good thing I've never seen any of the Saw movies. You guys would be fucked.

I'm not sure how to take that.
On one hand, I also think I'm a weird guy and I love being quirky.
On the other hand, I think you meant that as an insult.
