Not to indicate that there wasn't plenty of foreshadowing, but foreshadowing does not preclude deus ex machina as a device, especially when it's clearly added to obviate the deus ex machina.

Are there any sample score cards, or pictures of score cards from years past? It suddenly occurred to me that I have no idea what I'm getting into. I saw the rules for duels in the OP, but how does all that work? I'm sure this is all somewhere really obvious and I'm just missing it, but if someone can point me in that direction I'd very much appreciate it.
Go to the op and click through to the old TWDT threads. The scorecards should be in the OPs of those threads.
I see Slytherin does not have a Head of House. Fuck it, I'll do it. Long Live Slytherin!
Cool, is it your first TWDT? Where are you from? Malfoy, hero, or villain?
No, I was attached to Slytherin last year, by virtue that three of my hotel mates were Slytherin. I'm from Seattle so being on sight is easy enough. As for the last one...I haven't decided yet.

I'm glad I can be of service again to the awesome house of Hufflepuff! I look forward to meeting all the awesome new Hufflepuffs and seeing everyone I met last year again. Let's kick ass!

Looking at last year's challenges I am wondering, does "one beer" mean one beer or can it mean ales, ciders and whatnot (I.e. no hard liquor)?
I only say this because I don't like the taste of beer... *awaits the argument that will ensue*
Usually it's 1 beer or 1 shot unless the challenge explicitly says 1 beer but even then you can probably fudge it if you get creative and do something different (gin and tonic instead of beer in a car bomb for instance) so long as you and your partner agree and alcohol of some form is consumed. After all, nobody wants to spend the night drinking stuff they really don't like (obvious exception: The Half-Mixed Drink).

I'm not an authority on the subject to be fair, but if I were the opponent of that duel I would find an ale or cider to be well within the spirit of "beer", even though in actuality they're quite different.

This, so long as you and your partner/opponent come to an agreement that it fits it all ought to be on the up-and-up. The event is about having a good, drunken time, not to be draconian about the challenges.
I was tempted to offer my services as Slytherin OotP Head of House, but I really enjoyed being the sober one watching the madness descend upon the group.

I got to try the cherry beer about a month ago and it was amazing! Didn't manage to grab any the last time I visited, and I also need to try the Frambroise one.

Not a big drinker and yet still want to join in on the fun? Volunteer to be a House Elf!
House Elves are the Sober-Coordinators for each faction of the Houses. They assist in what the HoH/HB/HG can no longer do due to too much dueling. House Elves also help out in the possible auctions each faction may have. House Elves may also have the power to approve your OWLS (your scorecard.)
At this moment (afaik) only Ravenclaw DE and Gryffindor DE are in need of House Elves. I may be in true alliance with the Dark Lord, but I like to make sure all other House Elves are taken care of.
Any takers? PM Atlus about it!

I suspect Lindeman's actually costs more per ml, but I don't care enough to figure it out. :P
A 750ml bottle of Lindemans costs just under $8 at my local Bottle Barn.
A similarly sized Goldshlager (which, is, in my opinion, about 750ml more than anyone should need) costs (according to the Great Oracle of Google) about $25.

Curious as to why you're comparing lambics with schnapps? There is a considerable difference in ABV. $8 is a great price for Lindemans though. Unfortunately for myself, not cost effective for being lower alcohol than I'm used to. The mechanics of lambic distillery are very intriguing, but I always found their flavor too be to straight and lacked depth.

If clever dunn's is on the slate I have about 50 coupons for beer and a burger for 5 bucks
I thought it only counted if you did all the challenges and they gave you a pony for doing it:
You got a pony for doing everything last year! My need to finish my score card completely has gone through the roof now if there are ponies again!

Nah, that was 2 years ago. Last year there was a bonus BONUS challenge for people who did that bonus challenge, which was (shockingly) a shot of Patron.
And I am wondering how much of a hangover I am going to have on Friday >.<
Nothing a local coffee shop cannot fix! Just drink a cup of water between "drinks" and you will feel surprising better the next day, and will be able to enjoy drinking that night even more!
I am currently working on trophy designs now, though whether or not they will be pwnies is up for debate. Am I the only person who is tired of ponies? Also because of time and stuff, they will most likely only be for Ravenclaw OotP (though I might make a few for Ravenclaw DE) GRANTED THEY ACTUALLY GET FINISHED.

I'm fine with something that's not a pony. We could do something that's completely unrelated to either PAX or bar crawls, like Pokemon!....oh, right. Nevermind then.
Glad I'm in Slytherin. I love me some shots. In fact, they are my preferred method of imbibing the spirits but those shots are foul.
By the way, if you come to me during the tournament and tell me you are feeling unlucky I may have a little something for you. Quantities are limited because it does take "six months to make".
I started training last night. two pitchers, and a few shots, and while I don't feel like death, I don't feel great either. I'm thinking I will definitely take it easy this year.

I just saw this, and I have to ring in here. Beer breaks down into two major categories: lager and ale. An ale is a beer. But of course if you like ale but not "beer", you probably mean you don't like light beer, in which case you're fine in my book.
...but if you like cider.... you are also fine in my book. ;-) I would gladly throw down an Ace-Peary-Cider-and-Guinness "snakebite" with you if our paths should cross.

Lindeman's Framboise lambic is technically "beer" even though it tastes like raspberry soda, looks like pink champagne, and smells like heaven.

Just have a full stomach (preferably full of protein/meat) and something sugary to drink (not caffeine since it will dehydrate you) and stay hydrated.
